During the walk\, we will discuss shooting in lower light with an emphasis on night photography. This will include assistance with exposure\, composition\, focusing\, use of tripods\, and a myriad of other settings and concepts! \nMuch of East Boston consists of dense residential neighborhoods\, in part as a carryover from the area’s heavy influx of immigration at the turn of the previous century\, and in part to its proximity to downtown Boston. Piers Park was developed in the mid-1990s as a contrast to this\, offering beautiful landscaping\, natural vegetation\, and stunning views of downtown Boston. On this walk\, we will photograph the grounds of Piers Park and the skyline during blue hour\, sunset\, and civil twilight. Photographers of all levels are welcome! \nAlso…\nSony rep Jon Helgason will be on this walk with Sony gear for photographers to use. If you are interested in using some Sony gear for the evening\, let us know! \nCOVID-19 Policies for outdoor Hunt’s Photo Walks and Workshops\nFace masks are recommended\, but not required for our outdoor Photo Walks. SUMMARY:Hunt's Photo Walk: Emerging Series- The North End in Black & White
DESCRIPTION:Walk Description\nJoin Hunt’s Photo Education for a photo walk in the historic North End of Boston. During the walk\, we will discuss shooting in lower light with an emphasis on black and white photography. This will include assistance with exposure\, composition\, focusing\, use of tripods\, and a myriad of other settings and concepts.\nBoston is often referred to as a “city of neighborhoods”. One of the city’s most notable neighborhoods\, and its oldest\, is the North End. Beginning in the 1600s this is where immigrants to the New World entered the city for the first time\, which made the North End a busy\, vibrant center of activity. Today\, this tightly knit area is known as “Little Italy” given the prominent Italian-American influence and population found here. Quaint eateries\, fine restaurants\, and historic locations are characteristics that make the North End one of Boston’s premier destinations. \nThis walk is also an excellent chance to work on street photography. During the first few hours\, our light will start to change\, giving us some excellent opportunities at casual portraits and street scenes. As we move into more of the nighttime light\, we will shift to long exposures. Join us for this very diverse photo walk! \nEmerging Series- A Guideline for Photo Walks during the era of COVID-19\nAs the COVID lockdown ends and social restrictions begin to ease\, we have decided to start offering our popular Hunt’s Photo Walks again.\nHunt’s Photo Education remains dedicated to the health and safety of every single attendee\, student\, and customer\, first and foremost. We also are committed to the best possible learning experience. We have put forth rules and guidelines for Photo Walks that occur during the era of COVID.\n•We will have no more than 6-8 attendees per Photo Walk with a single instructor\n•We ask that all attendees wear a mask. (Please make sure the mask covers your mouth and nose.)\n•We ask that all attendees socially distance 6 feet from one another\, unless you are attending with the other person\n•Hunt’s Photo Educators will be unable to physically handle others’ cameras\n•Consider bringing sanitizing wipes and hand sanitizer\n•If you are sick or feeling unwell\, stay home! We will gladly give you credit towards a future walk! \nThese guidelines will stay in place until further notice. We appreciate your patience and understanding during this time. If you have any questions\, feel free to contact us at classes@huntsphoto.com. \nRegister here \n \nIf you are attending this walk\, we will send out more specific instructions to you a few days prior to the walk. We will be going to the Cemetery in the heart of fall and should expect a good level of color. \nOn this walk\, we will specifically only be using Lensbaby lenses. For those unfamiliar\, Lensbaby is a company that makes creative effects lenses\, optics and accessories that accentuate selective focus and other stylistic effects. Lensbaby has a certain look\, but they also take time to learn how to use. For this reason\, we’ve developed a Photo Walk devoted entirely to Lensbaby. We will have Lensbaby lenses available to use\, but you are also welcome to bring your own\, if you have one. Mt. Auburn Cemetery has an excellent variety of landscape and details that accentuate the capabilities of these lenses.\nAfter the walk\, we will continue back to our store in Melrose where we will host a 1-hour image review. Attendees will submit a few select images and we will be able to discuss what worked and how we could improve in the future. This image review will also coincide with our annual Hunt’s Show\, which you are welcome to attend after the image review! \n \nAttendees should have: \nDigital Camera \nMemory Card \nTripod \nSuggested Items Attendees should have: \nExtra memory cards \nExtra camera battery \nReflectors/Diffusers \nCable Release/Wireless Remote to trigger camera

SUMMARY:Hunt's Photo Workshop: HDR\, ft Horn Pond
DESCRIPTION:Join Hunt’s Photo Education for a workshop on how to create photographs in the field suitable for creating HDR images\, and how to easily process them using Adobe Lightroom. \nThe problem: Often when we photograph\, there are very bright areas and very dark areas\, and the camera’s sensor (or film) cannot accurately create detail in all of those areas. Examples of this are photographs of the sky and a shadowy landscape\, or perhaps a photograph of the inside of a building (dark) looking to the outside (bright).\nThe solution: HDR. \nHigh Dynamic Range (HDR) has existed in photography for almost as long as photography has existed. Originally\, film photographers would take two (or more) exposures and combine them in post-production\, as film simply did not have the latitude (or “dynamic range”) to capture both areas accurately. In the example of the landscape with the sky\, photographers could photograph the sky at one exposure to obtain detail\, then separately photograph the landscape at a separate exposure. Modern digital camera sensors have improved upon that dynamic range\, but we still can benefit from High Dynamic Range in Post-Production. \nIn this workshop\, we will begin by photographing in the field at Horn Pond in Woburn with a short class and discussion about camera settings and the morning’s goals. We will then workshop how to best take photographs for HDR by bracketing exposure. We will then break and drive separately to our store at Hunt’s Photo in Melrose for post-processing the bracketed photographs using Adobe Lightroom. \nPlease note: Many programs offer HDR processing of images through bracketing\, but this course will specifically be using Adobe Lightroom. We separately have offered (and will offer again) courses using Adobe Photoshop\, but this course will not cover Photoshop. \n \nIf you are attending this walk\, we will send out more specific instructions to you a few days prior to the walk. However\, be advised we will be meeting at Horn Pond in Woburn. Please note: Some slight details above can be subject to change. This email will detail any of those minor changes.\nPlease read Hunt’s Terms & Conditions before signing up.

SUMMARY:Hunt's Portrait Workshop: Portraits at Horn Pond Using Natural Light & Flash!
DESCRIPTION:Join Hunt’s Photo Education as we continue our portrait workshop sessions by mixing natural light and flash! On these workshops\, we will emphasize creating portraits using available light through subject placement and composition through the aid of diffusers and reflectors\, but then explain when and why to utilize flash\, and how we can achieve extraordinary results with a little bit of knowledge! Photographers of all skill levels are encouraged to attend. \nOn this workshop\, we will utilize the beautifully underrated Horn Pond in Woburn\, MA. Horn Pond is a 102-acre body of water that has a little bit of everything to offer the photographer from wildlife to flowers to beautiful sunsets and more! This is also an excellent and diverse area to photograph portraits\, from engagement sessions to senior portraits\, and even fashion. Areas of the pond are fully covered\, other areas have dappled light\, and still others have harsh\, direct sun\, but excellent backgrounds! We will begin this workshop basic and make our way up\, going to different areas to get different effects.\nWe will also integrate in a number of techniques with flash. You do not need to own a flash for this workshop\, but it certainly doesn’t hurt to own one and have an interest in using it! We will integrate in a little bit of flash and end utilizing High Speed Sync (or similar techniques) in our last hour of shooting. \nFor anyone interested in improving working with subjects in natural light situations as well as dabbling in outdoor flash\, this workshop is an excellent opportunity! \nYou may bring your own gear\, including reflectors and speedlights\, but we will begin with gear that anyone can use\, including:\n-Basic reflectors\n-A Variety of brands of Speedlights\n-Phottix & Pocket Wizard Triggers\n-Westcott & Phottix Softboxes\n-Rogue Flashbender products \nWhat to bring:\n-Camera with fully charged battery\n-Memory cards\n-For lenses\, consider bringing lenses between 50mm and 100mm. Prime lenses with low apertures are a great option\, but zoom lenses that fit this range will also work fine.

SUMMARY:Hunt's Photo Walk: The North End at Night
DESCRIPTION:Join Hunt’s Photo Education for a photo walk in the historic North End of Boston. During the walk\, we will discuss shooting in lower light with an emphasis on night photography. This will include assistance with exposure\, composition\, focusing\, use of tripods\, and a myriad of other settings and concepts. \nBoston is often referred to as a “city of neighborhoods”. \n \nIf you are attending this walk\, we will send out more specific instructions to you a few days prior to the walk. Please note: Some slight details above can be subject to change. This email will detail any of those minor changes.\nPlease read Hunt’s Terms & Conditions before signing up.\nIf you are interested in learning a little more about your camera (or anything else photographic-related) prior to the walk\, we would love to have you for a Custom 1-on-1 class.

SUMMARY:Hunt's Photo Walk: Winter at Horn Pond
DESCRIPTION:Join Ron Phillips of Hunt’s Photo Education as we explore Horn Pond’s 102-acre body of water along the Aberjona River in Woburn\, Massachusetts. On this walk\, we will emphasize landscape\, wildlife\, and macro photography\, all in the beautiful Winter\, as we encounter birds\, flowers and more! We will work on creative imagery\, utilizing the color of the season\, but also discuss black & white photography and techniques such as panning & zooming to create a dramatic and fine art effect. Photographers of all skill levels are encouraged to attend! \nHorn Pond is a wonderfully scenic area\, offering many outdoor activities such as hiking and bike riding. These same trails are an excellent place to explore many types of photographic opportunities\, emphasizing nature\, landscape\, and macro. On many of our walks\, the quality of day can positively or negatively affect how our images turn out. On this walk\, we will emphasize making the best out of any situation\, whether cloudy\, sunny or rainy (well\, not too rainy). Bring your creative thoughts! \nWe recommend having both a standard zoom lens and telephoto zoom lens\, preferably one that will go to 200mm or above. \nPlease note: There will be a good amount of walking on this Photo Walk. Nothing too treacherous\, but make sure to wear comfortable shoes!
