SUMMARY:Hunt's Photo Walk: Postcard Series- Holiday Lights at Christopher Columbus Park
DESCRIPTION:Join Hunt’s Education for a set of walks that concentrate on photographing holiday lights. We have chosen a myriad of locations that vary in content and location. It may seem like a lot\, but we have chosen these locations for the variety they present for attendees!\nThis year\, we will be photographing lights at Boston Common & Gardens and Christopher Columbus Park in Boston; at La Salette Shrine in Attleboro; in downtown Portland\, Newburyport\, and Portsmouth; at the Stevens-Coolidge Place for “Winterlights” in North Andover; and at Olde Sturbridge Village for their annual Christmas by Candlelight! We will discuss the many aspects that go into photographing in low-light\, especially when encountering holiday lights\, including Image Composition\, Long Exposures\, Architectural Photography and many additional aspects of photographing holiday lights. Photographers of all skill levels are encouraged to attend.\nEffectively photographing holiday lights during the “blue hour” and at night can be a challenge. SUMMARY:Hunt's "Lensbaby" Photo Walk: Mt. Auburn Cemetery with Lensbaby!
DESCRIPTION:Join Hunt’s Photo Education for a very unique walk\, using Lensbaby lenses at Mt. Auburn Cemetery\, followed by an image review at Hunt’s Photo in Melrose. This walk is our first Photo Walk specifically geared towards using ONLY Lensbaby lenses! \nMt. Auburn Cemetery is one of Boston’s most beautiful green spaces. This large\, rolling parcel of land was America’s first garden-style cemetery. The historical 174-acre cemetery serves as a final resting place for the deceased\, but it is also an arboretum full of flowers\, flowering trees\, colorful shrubs\, architecture\, and wildlife. We will be going to the Cemetery in the heart of fall and should expect a good level of color. \nOn this walk\, we will specifically only be using Lensbaby lenses. For those unfamiliar\, Lensbaby is a company that makes creative effects lenses\, optics and accessories that accentuate selective focus and other stylistic effects. Lensbaby has a certain look\, but they also take time to learn how to use. For this reason\, we’ve developed a Photo Walk devoted entirely to Lensbaby. We will have Lensbaby lenses available to use\, but you are also welcome to bring your own\, if you have one. Mt. Auburn Cemetery has an excellent variety of landscape and details that accentuate the capabilities of these lenses.\nAfter the walk\, we will continue back to our store in Melrose where we will host a 1-hour image review. Attendees will submit a few select images and we will be able to discuss what worked and how we could improve in the future. This image review will also coincide with our annual Hunt’s Show\, which you are welcome to attend after the image review! \n \nAttendees should have: \nDigital Camera \nMemory Card \nTripod \nSuggested Items Attendees should have: \nExtra memory cards \nExtra camera battery \nReflectors/Diffusers \nCable Release/Wireless Remote to trigger camera

SUMMARY:Hunt's Photo Workshop: HDR\, ft Horn Pond
DESCRIPTION:Join Hunt’s Photo Education for a workshop on how to create photographs in the field suitable for creating HDR images\, and how to easily process them using Adobe Lightroom. \nThe problem: Often when we photograph\, there are very bright areas and very dark areas\, and the camera’s sensor (or film) cannot accurately create detail in all of those areas. Examples of this are photographs of the sky and a shadowy landscape\, or perhaps a photograph of the inside of a building (dark) looking to the outside (bright).\nThe solution: HDR. \nHigh Dynamic Range (HDR) has existed in photography for almost as long as photography has existed. Originally\, film photographers would take two (or more) exposures and combine them in post-production\, as film simply did not have the latitude (or “dynamic range”) to capture both areas accurately. In the example of the landscape with the sky\, photographers could photograph the sky at one exposure to obtain detail\, then separately photograph the landscape at a separate exposure. Modern digital camera sensors have improved upon that dynamic range\, but we still can benefit from High Dynamic Range in Post-Production. \nIn this workshop\, we will begin by photographing in the field at Horn Pond in Woburn with a short class and discussion about camera settings and the morning’s goals. We will then workshop how to best take photographs for HDR by bracketing exposure. We will then break and drive separately to our store at Hunt’s Photo in Melrose for post-processing the bracketed photographs using Adobe Lightroom. \nPlease note: Many programs offer HDR processing of images through bracketing\, but this course will specifically be using Adobe Lightroom. We separately have offered (and will offer again) courses using Adobe Photoshop\, but this course will not cover Photoshop. \n \nIf you are attending this walk\, we will send out more specific instructions to you a few days prior to the walk. However\, be advised we will be meeting at Horn Pond in Woburn. Please note: Some slight details above can be subject to change. This email will detail any of those minor changes.\nPlease read Hunt’s Terms & Conditions before signing up.

SUMMARY:Hunt's Portrait Workshop: Portraits at Horn Pond Using Natural Light & Flash!
DESCRIPTION:Join Hunt’s Photo Education as we continue our portrait workshop sessions by mixing natural light and flash! On these workshops\, we will emphasize creating portraits using available light through subject placement and composition through the aid of diffusers and reflectors\, but then explain when and why to utilize flash\, and how we can achieve extraordinary results with a little bit of knowledge! Photographers of all skill levels are encouraged to attend. \nOn this workshop\, we will utilize the beautifully underrated Horn Pond in Woburn\, MA. Horn Pond is a 102-acre body of water that has a little bit of everything to offer the photographer from wildlife to flowers to beautiful sunsets and more! This is also an excellent and diverse area to photograph portraits\, from engagement sessions to senior portraits\, and even fashion. Areas of the pond are fully covered\, other areas have dappled light\, and still others have harsh\, direct sun\, but excellent backgrounds! We will begin this workshop basic and make our way up\, going to different areas to get different effects.\nWe will also integrate in a number of techniques with flash. You do not need to own a flash for this workshop\, but it certainly doesn’t hurt to own one and have an interest in using it! We will integrate in a little bit of flash and end utilizing High Speed Sync (or similar techniques) in our last hour of shooting. \nFor anyone interested in improving working with subjects in natural light situations as well as dabbling in outdoor flash\, this workshop is an excellent opportunity! \nYou may bring your own gear\, including reflectors and speedlights\, but we will begin with gear that anyone can use\, including:\n-Basic reflectors\n-A Variety of brands of Speedlights\n-Phottix & Pocket Wizard Triggers\n-Westcott & Phottix Softboxes\n-Rogue Flashbender products \nWhat to bring:\n-Camera with fully charged battery\n-Memory cards\n-For lenses\, consider bringing lenses between 50mm and 100mm. Prime lenses with low apertures are a great option\, but zoom lenses that fit this range will also work fine.

SUMMARY:Hunt's Photo Walk: The North End at Night
DESCRIPTION:Join Hunt’s Photo Education for a photo walk in the historic North End of Boston. During the walk\, we will discuss shooting in lower light with an emphasis on night photography. This will include assistance with exposure\, composition\, focusing\, use of tripods\, and a myriad of other settings and concepts. \nBoston is often referred to as a “city of neighborhoods”. One of the city’s most notable neighborhoods\, and its oldest\, is the North End. Beginning in the 1600s this is where immigrants to the New World entered the city for the first time\, which made the North End a busy\, vibrant center of activity. Today\, this tightly knit area is known as “Little Italy” given the prominent Italian-American influence and population found here. Quaint eateries\, fine restaurants\, and historic locations are characteristics that make the North End one of Boston’s premier destinations. \nThis walk is also an excellent chance to work on street photography. During the first few hours\, our light will start to change\, giving us some excellent opportunities at casual portraits and street scenes. As we move into more of the nighttime light\, we will shift to long exposures. Join us for this very diverse photo walk! \n \nIf you are attending this walk\, we will send out more specific instructions to you a few days prior to the walk. Please note: Some slight details above can be subject to change. This email will detail any of those minor changes.\nPlease read Hunt’s Terms & Conditions before signing up.\nIf you are interested in learning a little more about your camera (or anything else photographic-related) prior to the walk\, we would love to have you for a Custom 1-on-1 class.
