SUMMARY:Advanced Printing Techniques- Printing in Adobe Lightroom\, Hunt's Photo\, Melrose
DESCRIPTION:For ages\, darkroom printing was an art form that was destined only for those that had a darkroom. Now they practically give digital printers away\, and what darkroom techniques were sequestered to your basement can now be duplicated in a corner office.\nBut Digital Printing\, while simple in concept\, has a myriad number of curiosities and questions associated with it. Among the issues printers run into are color correction\, proper exposure\, ability to utilize multiple papers\, understanding how to edit for print\, how to print in black and white\, and why and when to use certain tools. In this course\, we will answer these questions\, as well as refer back to some of the more basic elements of digital printing\, including ICC profiles\, monitor calibration\, and more!\nThis class is for anyone that has set up their printer and understands some of the basic concept of printing\, but is having issues producing consistent results\, or wants to go further in understanding how to achieve the best printing results! We love printing\, and we want to share that love of printing with you! You do not need to own a printer\, but it helps. We recommend Canon or Epson. \nWhile the time is limited\, we invite you to bring one or two potential images with you (on a memory card or thumb drive) that may be used in the class for demonstration. RAW files are recommended. \nFor more basic techniques in printing\, our Intro to Digital Printing course is recommended. \nTo register in Melrose…

SUMMARY:Adding Textures to Photos in Photoshop
DESCRIPTION:Why use Photoshop? One of the most fun and creative ways to utilize Adobe Photoshop (as opposed to many other editing programs\, including Lightroom) is Photoshop’s ability to use multiple layers. Adding textures to photographs or areas of a photograph are an excellent opportunity to add character\, depth\, and a uniqueness to an image!\nIn this class\, we will demonstrate and work with images in a step-by-step process to take a photo from Lightroom (or anywhere on your computer)\, import into Photoshop\, add a texture\, and then save the file. We will be providing some textures that we have created for each student and will also provide images for you to practice on. This class will specifically cover…\n•Layers\n•Masking\n•Blend modes \nThe tools we utilize here don’t need to end with just textures. The concepts we will cover in the class can also be applied to other areas–changing the opacity of a layer or image\, creating masks which allow you to change one specific area of a photo\, and more. If you have an interest in learning more about Photoshop\, this is an excellent opportunity! \nNo previous Photoshop knowledge is required\, but we recommend bringing a laptop for this class with Adobe Photoshop CC installed. (Adobe Lightroom Classic CC is helpful if you use Lightroom.) \n \nPlease read Hunt’s Terms & Conditions before signing up.

SUMMARY:Lightroom to Photoshop and Back Again- Hunt's Photo\, Providence
DESCRIPTION:Hunt’s Photo Education often promotes the idea of using Adobe Lightroom for most basic editing\, as the program’s interface for editing multiple images is fairly intuitive and is designed specifically for photographers. Lightroom can do quite a bit\, but there are times when Adobe Photoshop can do a better job. But where can we benefit from using Photoshop as opposed to Lightroom?\nOur course\, Lightroom to Photoshop and Back Again\, does exactly what the title says\, by starting in Lightroom\, then bringing images into Photoshop\, and then sending them back to Lightroom. We will begin by making basic changes to the images in Lightroom\, then bring them to Photoshop to fine-tune them and make the corrections that we either cannot make in Lightroom or ones that would be easier or better quality to make in Photoshop. Since Lightroom functions as an organizer as well as an editor\, we will finish by bringing the images back into Lightroom.\nIn this course we will learn:\n•When and why to use PS over LR\n•What are Layers?\n•Basic Photoshop workflow\n•Removing objects\n•Basic adjustments\n•Adding text \nWe recommend bringing a laptop for this class with Adobe Lightroom CC Classic and Adobe Photoshop CC installed. Please be advised: Lightroom CC Classic and Photoshop CC are the only versions we recommend for this class. Please make sure they are both downloaded and make sure you can open them prior to arriving. Also\, please be advised that Adobe Photoshop Elements and older versions of Photoshop have very different layouts and will not translate as well for this class. \n \nPlease read Hunt’s Terms & Conditions before signing up.

SUMMARY:Macro & Tabletop Workshop- Capture & Edit Edition- Hunt's Photo\, Holyoke
DESCRIPTION:Join Hunt’s Photo Education for our Macro & Tabletop Workshop\, Capture & Edit Edition! In this workshop\, we will combine the fun of photographing macro and tabletop setups with editing and processing of images. \nToo often we feel that our photography comes to a halt during inclement weather. However\, there is ample opportunity to make use of our creativity while staying indoors. Many household items– cut flowers\, books\, antiques\, jewelry\, and glassware– all make for wonderful subjects while using natural window light. Every table in your house can become a landscape of opportunity with some imagination and creativity. \nWe will begin with a short presentation on macro photography\, how to use specific gear\, how to light\, and how to compose macro photographs. We will then spend the next portion of our day creating a variety of still life set ups and unique macro scenarios using a variety of lights and light modifiers. We will then transition to the processing of images\, working individually on your own personal laptops. We will finish with a brief critique of images. \nWe recommend bringing a laptop with Adobe Lightroom or Adobe Photoshop installed for editing. \nThis workshop is recommended for anyone who wants to get more creative with their photography\, both in camera and in post-production! \nApproximate schedule for the day:\n10am- Introductions\, presentation on macro\, gear\, lighting\, settings\, etc\n11am- Photographing of macro setups\n2pm- Short lunch break; quick cleanup of macro setups (Attendees are encouraged to bring a bagged lunch and take a short break during this time) After lunch\, we will work on post-processing of images.\n4pm- Review & critique\n5pm- End of day \nPlease note: Depending on how many attendees we receive\, we may hold this workshop at a different nearby location with more space\, rather than in the store. SUMMARY:Advanced Printing Techniques- Printing in Adobe Lightroom- Hunt's Photo\, South Portland
\nTo register in South Portland…

DESCRIPTION:Capture-To-Print is an intermediate workshop that focuses not only on photography\, but also editing and printing! Half photo workshop\, half editing and printing\, we will take you through the whole process–from Capture to Print— to demonstrate what is important in the field\, how to effectively process photos\, and why printing is a necessity.\nWe all want to take excellent quality photos of wild animals in their natural habitat\, but those habitats are not always easily accessible. And when in that situation\, do we have the ability to make those split second decisions on what to do with our camera? Zoos are an excellent opportunity to hone those skills with the real thing. Zoos also provide different challenges\, including fencing\, windows\, and more. If we can overcome those challenges\, the result can be stunning\, especially in print form!\nWe will begin at the Roger Williams Park Zoo in Providence\, Rhode Island for a morning of photographing the animals\, specifically emphasizing how to set in the field for the best end result\, including focus\, exposure\, and more. At 1pm\, we will break from shooting and make our way back to the classroom at our Providence location. We will reconvene at 2pm. (Attendees are encouraged to get lunch in the meantime.)\nWe will then transition from photographing to editing\, which will include discussion of certain techniques. Half photo workshop\, half editing and printing\, we will take you through the whole process–from Capture to Print— to demonstrate what is important in the field\, how to effectively process photos\, and why printing is a necessity. \nOn this version of Capture to Print\, we will have a late afternoon/sunset photo walk covering three of Portland\, Maine’s most photogenic lighthouses. We’ll start at Bug Light Park to photograph the beloved Portland Breakwater Lighthouse\, also known as Bug Light\, before we head a couple of blocks over to Spring Point Ledge Lighthouse\, on the campus of Southern Maine Community College. Spring Point Ledge Lighthouse is also the site of Fort Preble\, a military fort which was in use from 1802 to 1906. We’ll explore the many opportunities this location offers\, and then head another few miles west to Cape Elizabeth to capture the sunset at Portland Head Lighthouse. Portland Head is located on the grounds of Fort Williams Park\, an old military fort dating back to the Spanish American War. We will explore the grounds and various vantage points on the lighthouse\, and end up in one of the classic spots for sunset. \nThe next morning\, we will then transition from photographing to editing. SUMMARY:Editing Using Capture One- Exposure\, Layer\, Color Grading\, & More- Hunt's Photo\, S. Portland
DESCRIPTION:Capture One is one of the most popular and professional photo editing softwares on the market. It’s a complete photo editor that allows for extensive color editing\, the ability to work with layers in an image\, tethered shooting\, and more in a fairly easy-to-use package! Capture One also boasts extensive camera and lens profiles for many brands\, emphasizing not just Canon and Nikon\, but also Fuji\, Sony and others.\nIn this course we will learn:\n•General program layout\n•Basics of exposure controls\n•Layers- what they are\, how and when to use them\n•Color editing tools\n•Spot Removal Tool\n•Tethering basics \nCome join us as we explore this fascinating program! \nWhy choose Capture One vs. Adobe Lightroom? This program can be seen as an addition to or replacement for Adobe Lightroom. Capture One’s interface focuses on processing of images without having to create catalogs of images\, allowing one to focus primarily on what’s important in images: Exposure\, spot correction\, color\, and more. Capture One’s biggest advantage over Lightroom is its robust color processing capabilities\, which allow one to work in a straightforward way to properly render color. Capture One is also one of the few professional photo editing softwares that is available to purchase\, rather than Adobe’s leasing with monthly payments. But rest assured- We’re not biased! Our instructors have both Capture One and Lightroom! \nWe recommend bringing a laptop for this class with Capture One Pro 12 installed. Please be advised: Capture One Pro 12 is the only version we recommend for this class. Please make sure the program is downloaded and make sure you can open it prior to arriving. Note:The other major version of this program\, Capture One Express\, does not offer the same editing capabilities (specifically the inability to work with Layers). We are happy to work with you in a 1-on-1 environment\, as this class will likely not be suitable for Express. \nTo register in S. Portland\n \nPlease read Hunt’s Terms & Conditions before signing up.

SUMMARY:Edit to Print- Hunt's Photo\, Hanover
DESCRIPTION:How do we edit an image to make the best print possible? Which images work for print and which do not? What paper should we print on? How should we edit for each paper? In this roundtable class\, we will work with your images\, discuss and process them\, and discuss the printing process. We ask attendees to bring in three images on a USB drive (RAW\, if possible) that they may want to print. We will review the images and choose one to edit in Adobe Lightroom and then send it to print.\nAttendees are also welcome to bring their laptop to work on the images during class for submission. We will gladly assist on any editing you would like to do.\nAttendees will leave with one print\, 12×18 in size (printed on 13×19 paper) and a bit more knowledge on the process of editing and printing\, not to mention the knowledge of how to take the photograph better in the field for next time.\nThis is a class that you can take as many times as you’d like. Since you’re constantly working with new images\, you’re always working out new challenges!\nIn the class\, we will have a variety of paper options to choose from\, including Moab Fine Art papers. (The cost of a 12×18 or 13×19 print on fine art paper is $35-$40; the cost of this class includes the cost of that print!) \nCome see your images\, printed vibrantly in a large format! \nTo register in Hanover…

SUMMARY:Beyond the Basics- Shooting & Editing Landscapes- Hunt's Photo\, Melrose
DESCRIPTION:Landscapes are one of the most easily accessible subjects to photographers but this does not mean that landscape photography is easy. This class will help you prepare for (and feel confident!) shooting in the field and how to edit your images in Lightroom when the shoot is over. \nStudents are encouraged to bring their laptops with Adobe Lightroom Classic installed as you’ll work through the edits with the instructor on provided images. \nTopics covered in this course:\n-Dynamic Range\n-Histograms\n-Exposure\n-Focusing\n-Composition\n-Gear\n-Global edits in Lightroom\n-Using graduated filters and adjustment brushes\n-and more! \nWe recommend bringing a laptop for the second half of this class with Adobe Lightroom Classic installed. We will provide images for you to work on\, which we will be demoing on screen at the same time. Please also be advised that this is not meant as an introductory course to Lightroom. We recommend Adobe Lightroom Basics as a precursor to this class.\nPlease be advised: Lightroom Classic is the only version we recommend for this class. Please make sure it is downloaded and make sure you can open it prior to arriving. Many versions of this software exist\, including the similarly named “Adobe Lightroom CC”. It is in fact a slightly different program. While this program has the same general capabilities\, the overall layouts of the two programs are very different. Please note that we recommend using Classic for this class. \nTo register in Melrose…\n \nPlease read Hunt’s Terms & Conditions before signing up.

SUMMARY:Capture to Print: Flowers & Macro
DESCRIPTION:Printing your photos will make you a better photographer. The first step to creating a great print is by understanding how to create a great photograph in the field.\nCapture-To-Print is an intermediate workshop that focuses not only on photography\, but also editing and printing! Half photo workshop\, half editing and printing\, we will take you through the whole process–from Capture to Print— to demonstrate what is important in the field\, how to effectively process photos\, and why printing is a necessity.\nOur process for this Capture to Print workshop will be a little different from our previous workshops. We will begin in our Melrose classroom with lighting setups and a variety of flowers\, which we will photograph over the course of the morning. We will transition from photographing to editing in the early afternoon. Attendees are encouraged to bring their computers–laptops or all-in-ones are fine (iMacs are welcome)–in order to do their own editing. Attendees should have Adobe Lightroom and/or Photoshop\, or a comparable program on their computer. We will be available to help with the processing of images during this time. We will then view these edits\, critique\, and discuss them with the rest of the class while also creating 13×19″ prints.\nThis will be a fun and challenging workshop that will walk you through the full process of creating a photograph. The process of printing is integral to developing one’s photographic vision. \nApproximate schedule for the day:\n9am- Introductions\, discussion of lighting and macro techniques\n10am- Photographing of flowers\, macro\n12pm- Begin editing (Attendees are encouraged to bring a bagged lunch and take a short break during this time)\n2pm- Review\, critique\, and printing \n\nIf you are attending this workshop\, we will send out more specific instructions to you a few days prior to the workshop. Please note: Some slight details above can be subject to change. This email will detail any of those minor changes.\nIf you have specific flowers that you would like to bring to photograph\, you are welcome to bring them as well. \nPlease read Hunt’s Terms & Conditions before signing up.
