DESCRIPTION:The Flume is an 800-foot long natural gorge that for generations has drawn outdoor enthusiasts\, hikers\, and photographers from New England and beyond to explore its impressive granite walls\, waterfall\, and stream.  Known as a popular spring\, summer\, and fall destination primarily\, the Flume also boasts exciting activity during winter months as well.   We will hike into the Flume and photograph colorful climbers as they ascend and descend the 90-foot ice covered walls of the Flume.  If weather permits we will also explore The Basin for some winter and ice scenes. During this walk we will discuss different ways to capture plants life in an up close\, personal\, and unique way.\nOften\, the winter can be a difficult time to photograph under good lighting conditions. The Botanic Gardens of Smith College offer both excellent subject matter and an optimal environment in which to photograph— warm\, and indoors\, but with outdoor lighting! The Botanic Gardens are split into a variety of areas\, showing off just some of Smith’s 7\,000 plant varieties.
