Sturbridge Village is a living history museum that features many authentic period buildings and homes to explore and enjoy. The village is also inhabited by re-enactors who provide colorful insight to life in New England during the 18th century. Sturbridge Village is a wonderful destination for a multitude of photographic opportunities as well as a glimpse into a bygone era. \nOlde Sturbridge Village is perhaps one of the best places to have both a Photo Workshop and a class. There’s a little bit of everything at this living history museum\, from macro and closeup with fine details to architecture\, from portraits to landscapes. We will photograph both indoors and outdoors\, in regular light as well as very low light. We will discuss how to work with subjects to create a story\, and also work on settings to fine-tune focus and exposure! Most importantly\, we will emphasize shooting all of these subjects in glorious black & white. Our goal is to think in black & white using a few simple concepts\, which we will discuss in our presentation leading into the class.\nThis Photo Walk is one of the best opportunities to build your photographic knowledge\, no matter what level. This walk is equally as beneficial as a first walk or a twentieth walk\, as the area has so much to offer! Most importantly\, because this is a multi-day workshop\, we will be able to spend more time working with our subject matter and discussing what works. \nWe will begin on Friday with an online presentation discussing Sturbridge Village and photographing in black & white. Because this is online\, you will not need to be in Sturbridge for this portion of the workshop. We will then meet the following morning at Sturbridge Village and work in the village for the day.\nIf you are not local to the area\, there is a hotel nearby that we recommend staying at\, listed below. The next morning\, we will return to the Village to work further with our subjects. We will then have an image review the following week to discuss photography from the weekend. Join us for this great experience! \nNote: During the era of COVID\, all actors at OSV will be wearing masks\, as pictured above. \nRegarding lodging We recommend staying overnight from Saturday to Sunday in the general area of Sturbridge. We have blocked a group of rooms at the Hampton Inn in Sturbridge (508-347-6466). The cost of your ticket does not include the cost of the lodging.\nPlease also note: The cost of your ticket does not include entrance to Sturbridge Village. COVID policies require that all tickets must be purchased online prior to arriving at the village. You can purchase tickets up to two weeks in advance here. \nA Guideline for Photo Walks during the era of COVID-19\nHunt’s Photo Education remains dedicated to the health and safety of every single attendee\, student\, and customer\, first and foremost. We also are committed to the best possible learning experience. We have put forth rules and guidelines for Photo Walks that occur during the era of COVID.\n•We will have no more than 6-8 attendees per Photo Walk with a single instructor\n•We ask that all attendees wear a mask. (Please make sure the mask covers your mouth and nose.)\n•We ask that all attendees socially distance 6 feet from one another\, unless you are attending with the other person\n•Hunt’s Photo Educators will be unable to physically handle others’ cameras\n•Consider bringing sanitizing wipes and hand sanitizer\n•If you are sick or feeling unwell\, stay home! We will gladly give you credit towards a future walk! \nThese guidelines will stay in place until further notice. We appreciate your patience and understanding during this time. If you have any questions\, feel free to contact us at classes@huntsphoto.com. \nRegister here \n \nIf you are attending this walk\, we will send out more specific instructions to you a few days prior to the walk. Please note: Some slight details above can be subject to change. This email will detail any of those minor changes.\nPlease read Hunt’s Terms & Conditions before signing up. \nDress and Gear \n•Make sure to dress accordingly with the most current weather report.\n•Consider bringing wide angle or standard zoom lenses.\n•A prime lens\, or anything with a low aperture\, will suit you well for this walk.\n•You are welcome to bring a tripod for this walk.\n•Feel free to bring snacks and water.\n•Bring an extra camera battery and memory cards.\n•As always\, bring your enthusiasm and creative thoughts!

We will then separately demonstrate reasons to add in flash. \nWe will begin photographing mid-day in the sunlight (and shade) and work to sunset. We will then utilize lower light techniques and photograph during twilight for some spectacular portrait results! \nFor this workshop\, you are welcome to bring your own flashes and light modifiers (soft boxes\, etc)\, but you also can use what we have with us as well. Photographers of all skill levels are encouraged to attend. \nFor our meeting location\, we have chosen downtown Haverhill\, Massachusetts. This will include assistance with exposure\, composition\, focusing\, use of tripods\, and a myriad of other settings and concepts.\nBoston is often referred to as a “city of neighborhoods”. One of the city’s most notable neighborhoods\, and its oldest\, is the North End. Beginning in the 1600s this is where immigrants to the New World entered the city for the first time\, which made the North End a busy\, vibrant center of activity. Today\, this tightly knit area is known as “Little Italy” given the prominent Italian-American influence and population found here. Quaint eateries\, fine restaurants\, and historic locations are characteristics that make the North End one of Boston’s premier destinations.\nThis walk is also an excellent chance to work on street photography. During the first hour\, our light will start to change\, giving us some excellent opportunities at casual portraits and street scenes. As we move into more of the nighttime light\, we will shift to long exposures. Join us for this very diverse photo walk! \nUpdated COVID-19 Policies for outdoor Hunt’s Photo Walks and Workshops\nHunt’s Photo Education is aligning with CDC and state guidelines and will no longer require face masks for our outdoor Photo Walks. If you are more comfortable wearing a mask\, please feel free to do so. We also recommend bringing a mask\, just in case. We also ask that you maintain social distance of 6 feet from one another.\nHunt’s Photo Education will still adhere to our 8 person attendee maximum per Photo Walk with a single instructor (unless otherwise noted).\nAs always\, if you are sick or feeling unwell\, STAY HOME! We will gladly give you a credit towards a future walk. \nRegister here\n***Having trouble registering? You can also register by clicking here! \n \nIf you are attending this walk\, we will send out more specific instructions to you a few days prior to the walk. Please note: Some slight details above can be subject to change. This email will detail any of those minor changes.\nPlease read Hunt’s Terms & Conditions before signing up. \nDress and Gear \n•Make sure to dress accordingly with the most current weather report.\n•Consider bringing wide angle or standard zoom lenses\, and a telephoto zoom lens\n•A prime lens (or even a macro) may also suit you well.\n•You can bring a telephoto zoom lens\, but be advised to bring only what you want to carry.\n•Make sure to bring your tripod with a quick release plate and a shutter release\, if you have one.\n•Feel free to bring snacks and water\, and a flashlight will likely help as well.\n•Bring an extra camera battery and memory cards.\n•As always\, bring your enthusiasm and creative thoughts!
