SUMMARY:Online: Why Your Prints Stink- A Funny Look at Bad Printing
DESCRIPTION:True story: Last night\, I went to go print a few photos. I booted up my computer and printer and three ink cartridges were empty. I replaced them\, found the image I wanted to print and clicked “print”\, but then I accidentally turned off my printer while loading the paper. When it booted back up\, another ink cartridge needed to be replaced! When I finally was able to print the image\, the colors were all wrong\, the print was dark\, and there were smudges on the side. Why do I even bother?! \nWhat amazes me is that I work with printers and printing all the time\, and so if I have these kinds of frustrations\, I can only imagine how the rest of the world feels! In this class\, we’ll discuss why your prints can stink\, specifically what you could have done that was wrong and what you could do better\, whether it’s on your personal printer or from an online or in-store photo lab; the importance of color management; and understanding what is user error vs. just a bad photo! (Sorry!) We’ll also talk a bit about the positive aspects of printing and what we can do to achieve the best results possible! Come have some fun with me\, Hunt’s Photo Educator Paul Nelson\, as I tear apart these printers limb from limb…or whatever. \nRegistering and what is needed\nAfter you register for this class\, you will receive a confirmation email that will include information about how to access the online class\, including an online ID code that you will need to get into the class. Make sure to save this information. We will also send a reminder email about 48 hours prior to the class time with that same information. \nLayout of the class\nThe class will begin promptly at the time listed. The majority of the class–roughly 1 hour– will be a presentation on the topic\, followed by a short Q&A. During the class\, you are welcome to type in questions in the Chat box if you have specific questions as they are asked. We will do our best to answer those questions\, but if not\, feel free to ask them at the end. \nWant to get this class after it’s been run?– We have an online store where you can purchase all our previously run classes here: https://ebay.huntsphoto.com/buy-previous-courses/ \n \nPlease read Hunt’s Terms & Conditions before signing up.

Sturbridge Village is a living history museum that features many authentic period buildings and homes to explore and enjoy. The village is also inhabited by re-enactors who provide colorful insight to life in New England during the 18th century. Sturbridge Village is a wonderful destination for a multitude of photographic opportunities as well as a glimpse into a bygone era. \nOlde Sturbridge Village is perhaps one of the best places to have both a Photo Workshop and a class. There’s a little bit of everything at this living history museum\, from macro and closeup with fine details to architecture\, from portraits to landscapes. We will photograph both indoors and outdoors\, in regular light as well as very low light. We will discuss how to work with subjects to create a story\, and also work on settings to fine-tune focus and exposure! Most importantly\, we will emphasize shooting all of these subjects in glorious black & white. Our goal is to think in black & white using a few simple concepts\, which we will discuss in our presentation leading into the class.\nThis Photo Walk is one of the best opportunities to build your photographic knowledge\, no matter what level. This walk is equally as beneficial as a first walk or a twentieth walk\, as the area has so much to offer! Most importantly\, because this is a multi-day workshop\, we will be able to spend more time working with our subject matter and discussing what works. \nWe will begin on Friday with an online presentation discussing Sturbridge Village and photographing in black & white. Because this is online\, you will not need to be in Sturbridge for this portion of the workshop. We will then meet the following morning at Sturbridge Village and work in the village for the day.\nIf you are not local to the area\, there is a hotel nearby that we recommend staying at\, listed below. The next morning\, we will return to the Village to work further with our subjects. We will then have an image review the following week to discuss photography from the weekend. Join us for this great experience! \nNote: During the era of COVID\, all actors at OSV will be wearing masks\, as pictured above. \nRegarding lodging We recommend staying overnight from Saturday to Sunday in the general area of Sturbridge. We have blocked a group of rooms at the Hampton Inn in Sturbridge (508-347-6466). The cost of your ticket does not include the cost of the lodging.\nPlease also note: The cost of your ticket does not include entrance to Sturbridge Village. COVID policies require that all tickets must be purchased online prior to arriving at the village. You can purchase tickets up to two weeks in advance here. \nA Guideline for Photo Walks during the era of COVID-19\nHunt’s Photo Education remains dedicated to the health and safety of every single attendee\, student\, and customer\, first and foremost. We also are committed to the best possible learning experience. We have put forth rules and guidelines for Photo Walks that occur during the era of COVID.\n•We will have no more than 6-8 attendees per Photo Walk with a single instructor\n•We ask that all attendees wear a mask. (Please make sure the mask covers your mouth and nose.)\n•We ask that all attendees socially distance 6 feet from one another\, unless you are attending with the other person\n•Hunt’s Photo Educators will be unable to physically handle others’ cameras\n•Consider bringing sanitizing wipes and hand sanitizer\n•If you are sick or feeling unwell\, stay home! We will gladly give you credit towards a future walk! \nThese guidelines will stay in place until further notice. We appreciate your patience and understanding during this time. If you have any questions\, feel free to contact us at classes@huntsphoto.com. \nRegister here \n \nIf you are attending this walk\, we will send out more specific instructions to you a few days prior to the walk. Please note: Some slight details above can be subject to change. This email will detail any of those minor changes.\nPlease read Hunt’s Terms & Conditions before signing up. \nDress and Gear \n•Make sure to dress accordingly with the most current weather report.\n•Consider bringing wide angle or standard zoom lenses.\n•A prime lens\, or anything with a low aperture\, will suit you well for this walk.\n•You are welcome to bring a tripod for this walk.\n•Feel free to bring snacks and water.\n•Bring an extra camera battery and memory cards.\n•As always\, bring your enthusiasm and creative thoughts!
