SUMMARY:Hunt's Photo Nifty Fifty Workshop: Plimoth Patuxet
DESCRIPTION:Working in the field with only a 50mm lens! \nFollowed by an image review & critique \nRecommended prerequisite: Working knowledge of your camera We also recommend having some of the knowledge from our Beginner Photography class \nMust have a 50mm lens \nAll Skill Levels Welcome \nInstructor: Emily Hojnowski \nClass Size: Maximum 8 attendees \nAbout the Nifty Fifty Workshops\nEvery photographer at one point or another has the internal struggle before going to photograph: What lenses should I bring with me today? The common answer is as many as I can without being too uncomfortable. And so we pack up our wide\, standard\, telephoto\, prime\, and macro lenses and head out into the field\, forcing ourselves to endure limitless choices while sacrificing simplicity.\nOur Nifty Fifty workshops flip the script and force you to only carry one lens: A 50mm lens\, nostalgically referred to as a “nifty fifty”. With limitations\, what can you– the photographer\, the creator\, the artist– achieve?\nThese workshops will start with our basic photo walk\, where we will meet in the field and work with only a 50mm lens in a specific location. Attendees will then submit a handful of images for an online image review\, to be held a few days later. During that image review\, we will be able to see others’ work\, discuss how to achieve different effects\, and consider editing choices. This is an excellent workshop for all photographers–from Beginner to Advanced–because it forces you to work in a different way. \nWalk Description\nFor this workshop\, we will be photographing at Plimoth Patuxet. Founded more than 65 years ago\, Plimoth Patuxet is a living history museum that depicts the life and culture of America’s first settlers in the 17th century. The settlement is complete with houses\, gardens\, animals\, and pilgrims that live and speak just as if it was 1627. The grounds\, homes\, and settlers make for wonderful studies in light\, architecture\, detail\, and portraiture.\nPlimoth Patuxet is an excellent location to use only a 50mm lens\, and is a great chance to get creative with it. Scenes in low-light\, fine details\, and portraits are just some of the things that you will be photographing\, all using that lovely 50mm glass!\n*Question: Are other prime lenses acceptable? Olympus/Panasonic users may use a 25mm lens\, since it gives the same look as a 50mm and other primes can be used as an alternative\, but we ask that you try to keep it at one prime in as close to that range as possible. Remember- this is a “nifty fifty” workshop\, not a “mighty ninety” workshop.
(And does that even really rhyme?) \nUpdated COVID-19 Policies for outdoor Hunt’s Photo Walks and Workshops\nHunt’s Photo Education is aligning with CDC and state guidelines and will no longer require face masks for our outdoor Photo Walks. If you are more comfortable wearing a mask\, please feel free to do so. We also recommend bringing a mask\, just in case. We also ask that you maintain social distance of 6 feet from one another.\nWe will continue to have a maximum of 8 attendees per one instructor.\nAs always\, if you are sick or feeling unwell\, STAY HOME! We will gladly give you a credit towards a future walk. \nThese guidelines will stay in place until further notice. We appreciate your patience and understanding during this time. If you have any questions\, feel free to contact us at classes@huntsphoto.com. \nRegister here \n***Having trouble registering? You can also register by clicking here! \n \nIf you are attending this walk\, we will send out more specific instructions to you a few days prior to the walk. Please note: Some slight details above can be subject to change. This email will detail any of those minor changes.\nPlease read Hunt’s Terms & Conditions before signing up. \nDress and Gear \n•Make sure to dress accordingly with the most current weather report.\n•Only a 50mm lens will be necessary\n•You do not need a tripod\n•Feel free to bring snacks and water\, and a flashlight will likely help as well.\n•Bring an extra camera battery and memory cards.\n•A good\, fun attitude is always recommended!

Attendees will then submit a handful of images for an online image review\, to be held a few days later. There are so many pieces to the puzzle of photography\, some of which use confusing terminology. And while we also offer other wonderful Beginner Photography classes to get you started\, nothing is truly the same as hands-on in-the-field! It’s important to fully understand the “why” and “how” of your camera settings. \nIn this outdoor\, hands-on class\, you’ll learn all about the basics of photography. We will discuss Exposure (how light works with the camera)\, the Big Three Settings (Aperture\, Shutter Speed\, & ISO)\, how they affect your picture and how to set them\, and what mode to set it to on your camera! We’ll discuss changing depth-of-field (controlling what’s in focus in the background)\, stopping or blurring the action in your scene\, and many other basic picture-taking techniques. This will be an excellent opportunity to learn about your camera in a fun and safe environment! Join us to strengthen your photographic knowledge! \nIn this session of Beginner Photography in the Field…\n…we will be going to the Zakim Bridge from Cambridge to Boston. Boston and Cambridge are vibrant\, colorful cities after dark. Despite the limitations of darkness there is still great detail and color to be captured through your lenses. Our walk will take us along the Charles River to the Zakim Bridge. During this session of Beginner Photography in the Field\, you will learn about photography in the field at the Zakim Bridge and surrounding areas during blue hour\, sunset\, and civil twilight. This is a classic location and a terrific chance to learn about long-exposures. If you’re a beginner and you also want to learn about how to shoot in low-light and night situations\, this is a great opportunity! (Honestly\, it’s really a great opportunity for ANYONE that’s a beginner!) Bring your camera and your enthusiasm to learn all about photography in a hands-on\, real-life environment!\nAnd yes\, you’ll end up with images in the end like those you see here. \nUpdated COVID-19 Policies for outdoor Hunt’s Photo Walks and Workshops\nHunt’s Photo Education is aligning with CDC and state guidelines and will no longer require face masks for our outdoor Photo Walks. If you are more comfortable wearing a mask\, please feel free to do so. We also recommend bringing a mask\, just in case. SUMMARY:Online: Personal Vision Series- Life in Motion- Creative Use of Shutter Speeds
DESCRIPTION:Presentation: Wednesday September 22nd\, 7-8pm • Online! \nImage Review/Critique: Wednesday September 29th\, 7-9pm • Online! \nRecommended prerequisite: \nInstructor: Don Toothaker \nClass Size: Limited to 8 attendees \nBelow the course description (but before registration) will be a short explanation on how the class will run. \nJoin Hunt’s Photo Education as we help grow your knowledge\, creativity\, and artistic expression with our expanded Personal Vision Series. These classes are designed to provide you time\, opportunity\, and guidance in shaping your creative photographic voice. We will give an overview on a specific topic in an online class session\, then give you time to go into the field by yourself (or with someone else\, if you choose) to complete an assignment based on that topic. We will reconvene a few days later for an online image review to discuss elements of your images.\nThe Personal Vision Series is a crossroads of many different ideas that we offer with Hunt’s Photo Education: Topic-based instruction/classes\, Photo Walks\, & Image Reviews. However\, unlike a Photo Walk where we will all take a certain direction\, for the “Walk” portion\, you will be asked to journey out on your own to photograph. This will cause you to be the driving force of your creativity and vision!\nThis week’s topic is Life in Motion. We will have an instructional online presentation on the first date and will reconvene for our Image Review on the second date. You will have that time period in between to photograph and edit our assignment.\nYour personal creative voice is critical to your growth as a photographer and as an artist. Join us for to help grow that voice! \nRegistering and what is needed\nAfter you register for this class\, you will receive a confirmation email that will include information about how to access the online class\, including an online ID code that you will need to get into the class. Make sure to save this information. We will also send a reminder email about 24 hours prior to the class time with that same information. \n“You Are Being Recorded” (And Other Note Related Items)\nWe will be recording this class! The video will be available for download about 24-hours after the class for all attendees\, so don’t worry about taking unending notes. We will send this link attendees to download and rewatch at any time. \nNo online classes should be shared and cannot be shared in a public environment\, including with camera clubs\nThe online content is the copyright of Hunt’s Photo Education and/or the Instructor. Please support our education team and instructors by not sharing this material! We appreciate your support\, and it’s thanks to that support that we are able to continue producing content! \nRegister Here\n***Having trouble registering? \nWalk Description\nFor this workshop\, we will be photographing in one of Boston’s most notable neighborhoods\, and its oldest: The North End. This tightly knit area is known as “Little Italy” given the prominent Italian-American influence and population found here. Quaint eateries\, fine restaurants\, and historic locations are characteristics that make the North End one of Boston’s premier destinations\, and also make it a rewarding location for photographers of every skill level\, all using that lovely 50mm glass. \n*Question: Are other prime lenses acceptable? Olympus/Panasonic users may use a 25mm lens\, since it gives the same look as a 50mm and other primes can be used as an alternative\, but we ask that you try to keep it at one prime in as close to that range as possible. Remember- this is a “nifty fifty” workshop\, not a “mighty ninety” workshop.
