SUMMARY:Hunt's Photo Workshop: Using On-Camera Filters\, ft. Fan Pier\, Boston
DESCRIPTION:In the age of film photography\, filters were used to great effect. Because darkrooms were less accessible for editing (than editing in the digital age)\, filters were used to “get it right in camera”. Despite all the editing programs available today\, it is still best to “get it right in camera”\, and certain filters still produce vastly superior effects that cannot be achieved by post-processing alone. \nJoin Hunt’s Photo Educators Rick Berk and Emily Hojnowski for a hands-on photography workshop designed to help attendees create better images by utilizing long-exposure. We will start with a classroom session explaining the different filter types and their uses\, as well as examples of when and why to use them. Circular Polarizers\, Neutral Density Filters\, and ND Graduated Filters will all be covered. At about 3:30pm we will break and reconvene at Fan Pier in Boston at 4:30pm to put into practice the filters and techniques. We will conclude the walk around 8:30pm.\nWe will have some Benro Neutral Density and Circular Polarizing filters on-hand for attendees to use in order to test the techniques discussed in the class. If attendees are interested in purchasing filters to use during the event\, we will be offering a discount on them the day of the workshop. \n \nIf you are attending this walk\, we will send out more specific instructions to you a few days prior to the walk. However\, be advised we will be meeting at Hunt’s Photo\, Melrose at the time listed. We will be traveling separately to Fan Pier in Boston. We will not need to return to Melrose and will conclude the workshop around 8:30pm in Boston. Please note: Some slight details above can be subject to change. This email will detail any of those minor changes.\nPlease read Hunt’s Terms & Conditions before signing up.

SUMMARY:Hunt's Photo Workshop...on the Water: Whale Watch!
DESCRIPTION:Join us aboard an offshore power catamaran with Capt. John T. Pirie on a private tour available only to Hunt’s Photo Education attendees. We plan to immerse you in the cetacean feeding frenzy that occurs each Spring as these hungry giants return from their long migration and 4 month fasting period. One can expect to see a variety of cetaceans\, birds and occasionally fish such as tuna and sharks. Whales such as Humpback\, Minke\, Finback\, and the endangered Right Whale frequent the Cape Ann waters during the Spring migration. We often see large schools of Atlantic White-Sided Dolphins who are always willing to come play around the boat. The shy Harbor Porpoise may be sighted as well as seals and a large variety of pelagic birdlife.\nWe will depart from Cape Ann Marina onboard the “Orca”– a 26’ twin engine custom-built catamaran. We will spend 6 hours at sea during prime light and viewing hours. The trips will be limited to 6 photographers so that your experience is both intimate and personalized. You will have the opportunity to practice and improve your photography skills while enjoying a remarkable experience amongst feeding cetaceans.\nMore details\, including what to bring and what to expect\, are listed below. \n \nIf you are attending this workshop\, we will send out more specific instructions to you a few days prior to the workshop. SUMMARY:Capture to Print: Flowers and Macro ft. the Stevens-Coolidge Place
DESCRIPTION:Printing your photos will make you a better photographer. The first step to creating a great print is by understanding how to create a great photograph in the field.\nCapture-To-Print is an intermediate workshop that focuses not only on photography\, but also editing and printing! Half photo workshop\, half editing and printing\, we will take you through the whole process–from Capture to Print— to demonstrate what is important in the field\, how to effectively process photos\, and why printing is a necessity.\nOn this Capture to Print workshop\, we will begin at the Stevens-Coolidge Place in North Andover\, which has beautifully maintained grounds\, a rose garden\, and a greenhouse. During this time\, we will photograph flowers\, working to get the best quality images in preparation for editing and printing. After photographing\, we will return to Hunt’s Photo in Melrose and transition to editing in the early afternoon. Attendees are encouraged to bring their computers–laptops or all-in-ones are fine (iMacs are welcome)–in order to do their own editing. Attendees should have Adobe Lightroom and/or Photoshop on their computer or a comparable program. We will be available to help with the processing of images during this time. We will then view these edits\, critique\, and discuss them with the rest of the class while also creating 13×19″ prints.\nThis will be a fun and challenging workshop that will walk you through the full process of creating a photograph. The process of printing is integral to developing one’s photographic vision. \nApproximate schedule for the day:\n8am- Meet at Stevens-Coolidge in North Andover and photograph for the morning\n11am- Wrap up photographing\, separately break for lunch\, return to Hunt’s Photo\, Melrose for 1pm\n1pm- Begin editing\n3pm- Review\, critique\, and printing \n\nIf you are attending this workshop\, we will send out more specific instructions to you a few days prior to the workshop. Please note: Some slight details above can be subject to change. This email will detail any of those minor changes.\nIf you have specific flowers that you would like to bring to photograph\, you are welcome to bring them as well. \nPlease read Hunt’s Terms & Conditions before signing up.

SUMMARY:Lighting with Speedlights: Outdoor Portraits using Flash
DESCRIPTION:Many people know how to take an adequate portrait in natural light\, but how can we integrate flash into the mix and why is it important? How can we turn a drab\, overcast day into something with a little pop? How can we counter harsh shadows on a bright and sunny day and still get worthwhile shots? Your flash can be the answer\, and it opens up a world of creativity once you understand how to set it\, modify it\, and integrate it into your portraits! \nOur Outdoor Portraits Using Flash workshop will cover these questions by discussing\, demonstrating\, and then practicing with models how to effectively use your flash outdoors in some basic ways. In this workshop\, we will work with flash both on the camera and off the camera with triggers. For those applicable cameras\, we will begin to work with high speed sync.\nWe will begin photographing in normal afternoon light and work our way into the evening to demonstrate the effect \nIntegrating flash into outdoor portraits is an excellent way to liven up your portraits. \nAttendees are also encouraged to bring their own gear\, but we will begin with gear that anyone can use\, including: \n-A Variety of brands of Speedlights\n-Phottix & Pocket Wizard Triggers\n-Westcott & Phottix Softboxes\n-Rogue Flashbender products \nWhat to bring:\n-Camera with fully charged battery\n-Memory cards\n-For lenses\, consider bringing lenses between 50mm and 100mm. Prime lenses with low apertures are a great option\, but zoom lenses that fit this range will also work fine.\n-You are welcome to bring your own speedlights and triggers\, but we will begin the day using generic options. \nLayout of the day: \n1pm- Introductions\, brief presentation/discussion on exposure & speedlights\, camera setup\n2pm- Demoing shooting\n3-7pm- Photographing with models. We will have this time to photograph models\, split into multiple groups.

SUMMARY:Personal Vision Shootout: Redcoats & Rebels at Olde Sturbridge Village
DESCRIPTION:Join Hunt’s Photo Education for a Personal Vision Shootout at Olde Sturbridge Village. This comprehensive walk is geared toward intermediate and advanced photographers. During the walk\, we will “strengthen your photographic muscles” by challenging you to work outside of your comfort zone while also developing cohesion in the photographic work you produce. \nLocated an hour west of Boston\, Sturbridge Village is a proud replication of an 18th century New England town. Sturbridge Village is a living history museum that features many authentic period buildings and homes to explore and enjoy. The village is also inhabited by re-enactors who provide colorful insight to life in New England during the 18th century. Sturbridge Village is a wonderful destination for a multitude of photographic opportunities as well as a glimpse into a bygone era. \nOur emphasis for the weekend will be on the OSV event Redcoats and Rebels. For the weekend\, Olde Sturbridge Village will be turned into a military camp from the Revolutionary Period. SUMMARY:Capture to Print\, ft. Roger Williams Park Zoo
DESCRIPTION:Capture-To-Print is an intermediate workshop that focuses not only on photography\, but also editing and printing! Half photo workshop\, half editing and printing\, we will take you through the whole process–from Capture to Print— to demonstrate what is important in the field\, how to effectively process photos\, and why printing is a necessity.\nWe all want to take excellent quality photos of wild animals in their natural habitat\, but those habitats are not always easily accessible. And when in that situation\, do we have the ability to make those split second decisions on what to do with our camera? Zoos are an excellent opportunity to hone those skills with the real thing. Zoos also provide different challenges\, including fencing\, windows\, and more. If we can overcome those challenges\, the result can be stunning\, especially in print form!\nWe will begin at the Roger Williams Park Zoo in Providence\, Rhode Island for a morning of photographing the animals\, specifically emphasizing how to set in the field for the best end result\, including focus\, exposure\, and more. At 1pm\, we will break from shooting and make our way back to the classroom at our Providence location. We will reconvene at 2pm. (Attendees are encouraged to get lunch in the meantime.)\nWe will then transition from photographing to editing\, which will include discussion of certain techniques. Shortly after 4pm\, we will view these edits\, critique\, and discuss them with the rest of the class while also creating 13×19″ prints.\nThis will be a fun and challenging workshop that will walk you through the full process of creating a photograph. The process of printing is integral to developing one’s photographic vision.\nPlease note: Your ticket does not include the entrance cost to Roger Williams Park Zoo. Your ticket includes the cost of instruction at the zoo and at Hunt’s Photo Providence\, as well as the print. \n \nApproximate schedule for the day:\n10am- Meet at Roger Williams Park Zoo and photograph the animals.\n1pm- Break for travel and lunch\n2pm- Reconvene at Hunt’s Photo\, Providence. Begin editing.\n4pm- Review\, critique\, and printing \n\nIf you are attending this workshop\, we will send out more specific instructions to you a few days prior to the workshop. This email will detail any of those minor changes. \nPlease read Hunt’s Terms & Conditions before signing up. \nAttendees should have: \nDigital Camera and Lens\nMemory Card\nTripod/Monopod \nSuggested Items Attendees should have: \nVarious other lenses\nExtra memory cards\nExtra camera battery\nSnacks\nWater
