SUMMARY:Personal Vision Shootout: Redcoats & Rebels at Olde Sturbridge Village
DESCRIPTION:Join Hunt’s Photo Education for a Personal Vision Shootout at Olde Sturbridge Village. This comprehensive walk is geared toward intermediate and advanced photographers. During the walk\, we will “strengthen your photographic muscles” by challenging you to work outside of your comfort zone while also developing cohesion in the photographic work you produce. \nLocated an hour west of Boston\, Sturbridge Village is a proud replication of an 18th century New England town. Sturbridge Village is a living history museum that features many authentic period buildings and homes to explore and enjoy. The village is also inhabited by re-enactors who provide colorful insight to life in New England during the 18th century. Sturbridge Village is a wonderful destination for a multitude of photographic opportunities as well as a glimpse into a bygone era. \nOur emphasis for the weekend will be on the OSV event Redcoats and Rebels. For the weekend\, Olde Sturbridge Village will be turned into a military camp from the Revolutionary Period. We will work to document the fine details of the uniforms\, the camps\, the personalities\, and the stories of this period of history. This will a complex task\, and as part of our Personal Vision Shootout\, we will have a working assignment as part of our visit for the day. This will be a fun and challenging day with many unique photographic possibilities! \nPlease note: the cost of your ticket includes the cost of your admission to Olde Sturbridge Village.

SUMMARY:Capture to Print\, ft. Roger Williams Park Zoo
DESCRIPTION:Capture-To-Print is an intermediate workshop that focuses not only on photography\, but also editing and printing! Half photo workshop\, half editing and printing\, we will take you through the whole process–from Capture to Print— to demonstrate what is important in the field\, how to effectively process photos\, and why printing is a necessity.\nWe all want to take excellent quality photos of wild animals in their natural habitat\, but those habitats are not always easily accessible. And when in that situation\, do we have the ability to make those split second decisions on what to do with our camera? Zoos are an excellent opportunity to hone those skills with the real thing. Zoos also provide different challenges\, including fencing\, windows\, and more. If we can overcome those challenges\, the result can be stunning\, especially in print form!\nWe will begin at the Roger Williams Park Zoo in Providence\, Rhode Island for a morning of photographing the animals\, specifically emphasizing how to set in the field for the best end result\, including focus\, exposure\, and more. At 1pm\, we will break from shooting and make our way back to the classroom at our Providence location. We will reconvene at 2pm. (Attendees are encouraged to get lunch in the meantime.)\nWe will then transition from photographing to editing\, which will include discussion of certain techniques. Attendees are encouraged to bring their computers–laptops or all-in-ones are fine (iMacs are welcome)–in order to do their own editing. Attendees should have Adobe Lightroom and/or Photoshop on their computer or a comparable program. We will be available to help with the processing of images during this time. Shortly after 4pm\, we will view these edits\, critique\, and discuss them with the rest of the class while also creating 13×19″ prints.\nThis will be a fun and challenging workshop that will walk you through the full process of creating a photograph. The process of printing is integral to developing one’s photographic vision.\nPlease note: Your ticket does not include the entrance cost to Roger Williams Park Zoo. Your ticket includes the cost of instruction at the zoo and at Hunt’s Photo Providence\, as well as the print. \n \nApproximate schedule for the day:\n10am- Meet at Roger Williams Park Zoo and photograph the animals.\n1pm- Break for travel and lunch\n2pm- Reconvene at Hunt’s Photo\, Providence. SUMMARY:Hunt's Photo Walk: The North End at Night
DESCRIPTION:Join Hunt’s Photo Education for a photo walk in the historic North End of Boston. During the walk\, we will discuss shooting in lower light with an emphasis on night photography. This will include assistance with exposure\, composition\, focusing\, use of tripods\, and a myriad of other settings and concepts. \nBoston is often referred to as a “city of neighborhoods”. One of the city’s most notable neighborhoods\, and its oldest\, is the North End. Beginning in the 1600s this is where immigrants to the New World entered the city for the first time\, which made the North End a busy\, vibrant center of activity. Today\, this tightly knit area is known as “Little Italy” given the prominent Italian-American influence and population found here. Quaint eateries\, fine restaurants\, and historic locations are characteristics that make the North End one of Boston’s premier destinations. \nThis walk is also an excellent chance to work on street photography. During the first few hours\, our light will start to change\, giving us some excellent opportunities at casual portraits and street scenes. As we move into more of the nighttime light\, we will shift to long exposures. Join us for this very diverse photo walk! \n \nIf you are attending this walk\, we will send out more specific instructions to you a few days prior to the walk. Please note: Some slight details above can be subject to change. SUMMARY:Hunt's Photo Workshop: Using On-Camera Filters\, ft. Portland Head Light
DESCRIPTION:In the age of film photography\, filters were used to great effect. Because darkrooms were less accessible for editing (than editing in the digital age)\, filters were used to “get it right in camera”. Despite all the editing programs available today\, it is still best to “get it right in camera”\, and certain filters still produce vastly superior effects that cannot be achieved by post-processing alone. \nJoin Hunt’s Photo Educator Rick Berk for a hands-on photography workshop designed to help attendees create better images by utilizing long-exposure. We will start with a classroom session explaining the different filter types and their uses\, as well as examples of when and why to use them. Circular Polarizers\, Neutral Density Filters\, and ND Graduated Filters will all be covered. At about 2pm we will break and reconvene at Portland Head Light in Cape Elizabeth at 3:30pm to put into practice the filters and techniques. We will conclude the walk around 7pm.\nWe will have some Benro Neutral Density and Circular Polarizing filters on-hand for attendees to use in order to test the techniques discussed in the class. If attendees are interested in purchasing filters to use during the event\, we will be offering a discount on them the day of the workshop. \n \nIf you are attending this walk\, we will send out more specific instructions to you a few days prior to the walk. However\, be advised we will be meeting at Hunt’s Photo\, South Portland at the time listed. We will be traveling separately to Portland Head Light in Cape Elizabeth. We will not need to return to South Portland and will conclude the workshop around 7pm in Cape Elizabeth. Please note: Some slight details above can be subject to change. This email will detail any of those minor changes.\nPlease read Hunt’s Terms & Conditions before signing up.

SUMMARY:Hunt's Portrait Workshop: Portraits in Portland\, Using Natural Light & Flash!
DESCRIPTION:Join Hunt’s Photo Education as we continue our portrait workshop sessions by mixing natural light and flash! On these workshops\, we will emphasize creating portraits using available light through subject placement and composition through the aid of diffusers and reflectors\, but then explain when and why to utilize flash\, and how we can achieve extraordinary results with a little bit of knowledge! Photographers of all skill levels are encouraged to attend. \nOn this workshop\, we will utilize iconic Portland Head Light. Portland Head Light is truly a beautiful location\, with a great deal of variety and depth. There’s the lighthouse\, of course\, but there’s also the beach area\, old buildings\, rocky areas\, and a small garden\, all of which makes Portland Head Light an easy location to choose for portraits\, from engagement sessions to senior portraits\, and even fashion. We will begin this workshop basic and make our way up\, going to different areas to get different effects.\nWe will also integrate in a number of techniques with flash. You do not need to own a flash for this workshop\, but it certainly doesn’t hurt to own one and have an interest in using it! SUMMARY:Hunt's Photo Workshop: HDR\, ft Horn Pond
DESCRIPTION:Join Hunt’s Photo Education for a workshop on how to create photographs in the field suitable for creating HDR images\, and how to easily process them using Adobe Lightroom. \nThe problem: Often when we photograph\, there are very bright areas and very dark areas\, and the camera’s sensor (or film) cannot accurately create detail in all of those areas. Examples of this are photographs of the sky and a shadowy landscape\, or perhaps a photograph of the inside of a building (dark) looking to the outside (bright).\nThe solution: HDR. \nHigh Dynamic Range (HDR) has existed in photography for almost as long as photography has existed. Originally\, film photographers would take two (or more) exposures and combine them in post-production\, as film simply did not have the latitude (or “dynamic range”) to capture both areas accurately. In the example of the landscape with the sky\, photographers could photograph the sky at one exposure to obtain detail\, then separately photograph the landscape at a separate exposure. Modern digital camera sensors have improved upon that dynamic range\, but we still can benefit from High Dynamic Range in Post-Production. \nIn this workshop\, we will begin by photographing in the field at Horn Pond in Woburn with a short class and discussion about camera settings and the morning’s goals. We will then workshop how to best take photographs for HDR by bracketing exposure. We will then break and drive separately to our store at Hunt’s Photo in Melrose for post-processing the bracketed photographs using Adobe Lightroom. \nPlease note: Many programs offer HDR processing of images through bracketing\, but this course will specifically be using Adobe Lightroom. We separately have offered (and will offer again) courses using Adobe Photoshop\, but this course will not cover Photoshop. \n \nIf you are attending this walk\, we will send out more specific instructions to you a few days prior to the walk. However\, be advised we will be meeting at Horn Pond in Woburn. Please note: Some slight details above can be subject to change. This email will detail any of those minor changes.\nPlease read Hunt’s Terms & Conditions before signing up.

SUMMARY:Hunt's Photo Walks - Sunset (and Light Painting) in Rockport
DESCRIPTION:Join Hunt’s Photo Education on a late afternoon/sunset walk of Rockport and its harbor\, Bearskin Neck\, and other points of interest. After sunset\, we will continue photographing the areas employing light painting techniques! Photographers of all skill levels are encouraged to attend.\n\nRockport is a premiere destination for photographers. The town is an eclectic mix of unique storefronts\, a beautiful harbor\, boats\, and a rich fishing tradition that offers a wide variety of photographic subjects.\nThis will be a really fun walk! We will begin by photographing around the harbor and capturing sunset. After sunset\, Rockport really shuts down and becomes very dark. In normal circumstances\, this keeps us from photographing because of how little light there is. However\, this will work to our benefit\, as we will move on to teaching light painting techniques for the remaining time. This will be a lot of fun! \n\n\nIf you are attending this walk\, we will send out more specific instructions to you a few days prior to the walk. Please note: Some slight details above can be subject to change. This email will detail any of those minor changes.\nPlease read Hunt’s Terms & Conditions before signing up.\nIf you are interested in learning a little more about your camera (or anything else photographic-related) prior to the walk\, we would love to have you for a Custom 1-on-1 class.
