SUMMARY:Hunt's Photo Walk: The Crows of Lawrence
DESCRIPTION:The city of Lawrence\, Massachusetts is home to a significant Winter Crow Roost\, starting with 100-200 crows in early September to over 25\,000 by the new year. Join Hunt’s Photo Education’s Ron Phillips and local birder Craig Gibson for a unique Photo Walk that will observe the bigger picture of the Crows of Lawrence\, as they gather and circle\, leading into and just after sunset.\nWe will begin at 1:30pm in Lawrence to discuss much of the basis of what we will expect to see\, settings for our cameras and some test shots in the area. By mid-afternoon\, we will get into position and begin photographing\, and continue until we lose the majority of our working light. During this time\, hundreds of crows will gather in “pre-roost” locations\, finally converging about an hour after sunset. The sight is magnificent to behold!\nThis is not your typical birding photo walk\, but it is very unique and can yield spectacular imagery. Our co-leader\, Craig Gibson\, has done extensive research with this roost\, including extensive documentation over the past years. Craig has a breadth of knowledge and boundless enthusiasm on the subject. \n \nIf you are attending this walk\, we will send out more specific instructions to you a few days prior to the walk. However\, please be advised we will be meeting in Lawrence. Please note: Some slight details above can be subject to change. Our follow-up email will detail any of those minor changes.\nPlease read Hunt’s Terms & Conditions before signing up.

SUMMARY:Hunt's Photo Walk: Postcard Series- The Longfellow Bridge
DESCRIPTION:Join Hunt’s Photo Education for our new Postcard Series of Photo Walks. Our Postcard Series are shorter Photo Walks and focused in concept. While our normal walks are 3-5 hours\, our Postcard series are generally shorter (about 2 hours) and focused on photographing one subject. This one subject is generally that “Postcard Image”\, a unique and distinct looking photograph that everyone loves to have in their portfolio. These walks are excellent for beginners\, as you’re able to concentrate and fine-tune\, as well as intermediate photographers looking for a quick and fun walk. Less walking\, more photographing! \nFor this “Postcard Walk”\, we will be visiting the newly lit up Longfellow Bridge. During the walk\, we will discuss many of the aspects of photographing in low-light and at night\, including exposure\, focusing\, composition\, and more. We will spend a good deal of time photographing the Longfellow Bridge from numerous angles and at different times of the evening. We will make use of evening light\, civil twilight\, and night time. Photographers of all levels are welcome! \n\nIf you are attending this walk\, we will send out more specific instructions to you a few days prior to the walk. However\, please be advised we will be meeting in Cambridge. Please note: Some slight details above can be subject to change. Our follow-up email will detail any of those minor changes.\nPlease read Hunt’s Terms & Conditions before signing up.

SUMMARY:Hunt's Photo Walk: Plimoth Plantation
DESCRIPTION:Join Hunt’s Photo Education for a photo walk at the historic Plimoth Plantation in Plymouth\, Massachusetts. This walk will have an emphasis on storytelling with lots of opportunities for environmental portraits\, macro\, landscape\, and low light photography\, all under the guise of a 17th century New England settlement. \nFounded more than 65 years ago\, Plimoth Plantation is a living history museum that depicts the life and culture of America’s first settlers in the 17th century. The settlement is complete with houses\, gardens\, animals\, and pilgrims that live and speak just as if it was 1627. The grounds\, homes\, and settlers make for wonderful studies in light\, architecture\, detail\, and portraiture. Also on the property is a full Native American settlement as well. The Wampanoag’s were native to Plymouth before the arrival of our first settlers and the story of their lives\, and how it mixed with the Pilgrims\, is on display as well. Plimoth Plantation is a vital look into the lives of our ancestors and the growth of America. \nPlease note: Any photographs taken cannot have commercial use without written consent from Plimoth Plantation.

We will discuss the many aspects that go into photographing in low-light\, especially when encountering holiday lights\, including Image Composition\, Long Exposures\, Architectural Photography and many additional aspects of photographing holiday lights. Photographers of all skill levels are encouraged to attend.\nEffectively photographing holiday lights during the “blue hour” and at night can be a challenge. SUMMARY:Capture to Print: Flowers & Macro
DESCRIPTION:Printing your photos will make you a better photographer. The first step to creating a great print is by understanding how to create a great photograph in the field.\nCapture-To-Print is an intermediate workshop that focuses not only on photography\, but also editing and printing! Half photo workshop\, half editing and printing\, we will take you through the whole process–from Capture to Print— to demonstrate what is important in the field\, how to effectively process photos\, and why printing is a necessity.\nOur process for this Capture to Print workshop will be a little different from our previous workshops. We will begin in our Melrose classroom with lighting setups and a variety of flowers\, which we will photograph over the course of the morning. We will transition from photographing to editing in the early afternoon. Attendees are encouraged to bring their computers–laptops or all-in-ones are fine (iMacs are welcome)–in order to do their own editing. Attendees should have Adobe Lightroom and/or Photoshop\, or a comparable program on their computer. We will be available to help with the processing of images during this time. We will then view these edits\, critique\, and discuss them with the rest of the class while also creating 13×19″ prints.\nThis will be a fun and challenging workshop that will walk you through the full process of creating a photograph. The process of printing is integral to developing one’s photographic vision. \nApproximate schedule for the day:\n9am- Introductions\, discussion of lighting and macro techniques\n10am- Photographing of flowers\, macro\n12pm- Begin editing (Attendees are encouraged to bring a bagged lunch and take a short break during this time)\n2pm- Review\, critique\, and printing \n\nIf you are attending this workshop\, we will send out more specific instructions to you a few days prior to the workshop. Please note: Some slight details above can be subject to change. This email will detail any of those minor changes.\nIf you have specific flowers that you would like to bring to photograph\, you are welcome to bring them as well. \nPlease read Hunt’s Terms & Conditions before signing up.

SUMMARY:Macro & Close Up Photography Workshop- Hunt's Photo\, Providence
DESCRIPTION:Too often we feel that our photography comes to a halt during inclement weather. However\, there is ample opportunity to make use of our creativity while staying indoors. Many household items– cut flowers\, books\, antiques\, jewelry\, and glassware– all make for wonderful subjects while using natural window light. Every table in your house can become a landscape of opportunity with some imagination and creativity. \nWe will spend our day creating a variety of still life set ups\, unique macro scenarios\, and learning about the use of light and light modifiers.\nIn this workshop we will cover exposure\, composition\, how to use macro lenses and extension tubes\, how to set up lighting\, how to use light modifiers and more! \nWe will be bringing lots of props and flowers to photograph for this workshop. However\, we found on the last couple macro workshops that our attendees value shooting some things of their own as much if not more than what we bring. So\, while we will have props\, feel free to bring your own props\, trinkets\, and other things that may (or may not) be important to you! \n \nPlease read Hunt’s Terms & Conditions before signing up.
