Join Hunt’s Photo Education for a week-long photography program aimed at strengthening their interest\, improving their photography\, and getting them truly excited about being the artist\, the creator\, and the family photographer! \nOver the course of five days\, we will cover a wide range of topics\, from composition & perspective to depth of field & movement. Every day we’ll have a brief introduction to a topic followed by a fun practical exercise. Our goal is to get your photographers outside and taking pictures as much as possible! (Inside on snowy and cold days\, too.) At the end of the day\, we’ll look back on the images to see what we liked about them. And at the end of the week\, we’ll print and display images from all of our students in our Hunt’s Photo Gallery for all to see. \nOur goal in this program is to have a lot of fun and not bog students down with too much technical stuff. However\, we will also scaffold instruction\, so if an attendee wants to know more about the technical aspects\, they still can! \nStudents will be required to have some kind of camera. This can be a cell phone\, a point and shoot camera\, or a DSLR/mirrorless camera. Pretty much any digital camera that works is acceptable! \nThis will be a fun week with experienced instruction. We look forward to seeing you there! \n*A few notes about our recommended age requirements*\nOur age requirement is very general. A certain maturity level is helpful. Younger children with interest and a level of responsibility are welcome to attend. As we mention\, we will scaffold instruction for any age range.\nAll parents/guardians will need to sign off on a permission to attend this course upon signup. Our classes will be held in our Hunt’s Photo\, Melrose store and classroom\, and surrounding outdoor areas\, including Pine Banks Park. We assure you that your student will be in a safe and fun environment. If you have any questions\, please feel free to contact us at classes@huntsphoto.com. \nPlease Note: A Slight Change to COVID-19 Policies on Masks and Social Distancing\nUntil further notice\, we will be requiring masks for our indoor classes. We also ask that you socially distance whenever possible.\nAs always\, if you are sick or feeling unwell\, STAY HOME! We will gladly give you a credit towards a future class. \nRegister here\nPlease make sure to register information under the student’s name.\n***Having trouble registering? You can also register by clicking here! \n \nPlease read Hunt’s Terms & Conditions before signing up. \nWhat to bring\n•Students will be required to have some kind of camera. This can be a cell phone\, a point and shoot camera\, or a DSLR/mirrorless camera. Pretty much any camera that works is acceptable!\n•Please make sure whatever camera they bring has a fully charged battery and a memory card\, if necessary.\n•We encourage bringing a snack and water\, but not a full lunch\, as we will be ending by noon\n•As always\, have them bring their enthusiasm and creative thoughts!

SUMMARY:Multi-Session Series- Photoshop for Lightroom Users- Hunt's Photo\, Melrose
DESCRIPTION:Wednesdays February 2nd & 9th\, 6-8pm• Hunt’s Photo\, Melrose \nRecommended prerequisite: We strongly recommend having a basic knowledge of Adobe Lightroom from our Editing in Adobe Lightroom Classic class \nAttendees should have a laptop with Adobe Lightroom CC Classic and Adobe Photoshop CC \nInstructor: Rebecca Wade \nClass Size: 6-8 attendees \nCourse Description\nHunt’s Photo Education often promotes the idea of using Adobe Lightroom for most basic editing\, as the program’s interface for editing multiple images is fairly intuitive and is designed specifically for photographers. Lightroom can do quite a bit\, but there are times when Adobe Photoshop can do a better job. Where can we benefit from using Photoshop as opposed to Lightroom?\nOur course\, Photoshop for Lightroom Users\, teaches the essentials that we should know in Photoshop. We will begin by making basic changes to the images in Lightroom\, then bring them to Photoshop to fine-tune them and make the corrections that we either cannot make in Lightroom or ones that would be easier or better quality to make in Photoshop. Since Lightroom functions as an organizer as well as an editor\, we will finish by bringing the images back into Lightroom.\nIn this course we will learn:\n•When and why to use PS over LR\n•What are Layers?\n•Basic Photoshop workflow\n•Removing objects\n•Basic adjustments\n•Adding text \nWe recommend bringing a laptop for this class with Adobe Lightroom CC Classic and Adobe Photoshop CC installed. Please be advised: Lightroom CC Classic and Photoshop CC are the only versions we recommend for this class. Please make sure they are both downloaded and make sure you can open them prior to arriving. Also\, please be advised that Adobe Photoshop Elements and older versions of Photoshop have very different layouts and will not translate as well for this class. \nThese guidelines will stay in place until further notice. We appreciate your patience and understanding during this time. If you have any questions\, feel free to contact us at classes@huntsphoto.com. \nRegister here\n***Having trouble registering? You can also register by clicking here!\n \nIf you are attending this class\, we will send out more specific instructions to you a few days prior. Please note: Some slight details above can be subject to change. This email will detail any of those minor changes.\nPlease read Hunt’s Terms & Conditions before signing up. \nWhat to Bring \n•Make sure to bring your laptop with a power cable\n•It is essential to have Adobe Lightroom Classic & Adobe Photoshop CC installed on your computer. If this is your first time using it\, make sure you can open the program.\n•We encourage you to make sure your software is up-to-date with the newest version\n•If your computer requires an adapter for USB\, make sure to bring it\n•As always\, bring your enthusiasm and creative thoughts!

SUMMARY:Multi-Session Series- Adobe Lightroom Classic- File Management & Editing- Hunt's Photo\, Melrose
DESCRIPTION:Thursday\, January 13th\, Wednesday January 19th\, & Wednesday January 26th\, 6-8pm \nIn this course\, we use specifically Adobe Lightroom Classic. (See below for more information.) \nRecommended prerequisite: A basic knowledge of computers and how to organize photos helps. Lightroom can be a challenging program. Patience is a virtue. \nInstructor: Rebecca Wade \nClass Size: 6-8 attendees \nCourse Description\nThis is a great opportunity to build up your editing skills in Lightroom!\nAdobe Lightroom is the choice program for professionals and amateurs\, with ever-growing capabilities and options. However\, there are many levels to understanding in the program. How do we organize our photos? What do we do to make basic changes? Once we learn those changes\, how can we “step it up” and figure out what to we’re supposed to do? How do we make images pop? And finally\, how do we put it all together and making finishing touches to our images.\nJoin Hunt’s Photo Education for a course that helps answer many of these questions. Often\, Lightroom users struggle with the inability to determine what changes are “good” or “correct”. While those terms are subjective\, we will help you along in the editing process to see how to make determinations along the way.\nThis is a Multi-Session Class! In Week 1\, we will begin by discussing how to organize your images for quick retrieval via keywords\, ratings\, and more\, as well as giving a description on how to consider organizing your photos on your computer. Specifically\, we will cover brief computer file management\, the importance of keywords\, flagging and rating photos\, and searching metadata to find images. In Week 2\, we’ll start with the basic adjustments using Basic Development controls. More than anything\, we will be emphasizing global changes and understanding what can be done with an image in Lightroom. We’ll then dive into Color\, Curves\, Contrast & Clarity & Texture. These changes will help make your images pop. In Week 3\, we’ll discuss advanced editing\, including local adjustments\, such as radial and graduated filters\, and how to “finish” the image- sharpening\, noise reduction\, and more.\nIn-between each session\, we will give assignments to help you become more proficient and grasp the material! This class is strongly recommended for anyone looking to further their skills with Lightroom! \nAn important note about this course! There are now a few different versions of Adobe Lightroom right now. This course is specifically on Adobe Lightroom Classic. The other version of Lightroom\, commonly known as “Adobe Lightroom CC” (yes\, we understand you may be confused by this) is a more mobile and cloud-based program. The look and feel of the program is completely different– This course is specifically on Adobe Lightroom Classic. (See graphic on the right.) If you are unsure\, feel free to email us at classes@huntsphoto.com. Important: If you are taking this course\, make sure to download/update the program in advance\, as you will not be able to download the program at the store. Older versions\, such as Lightroom 5 or 6\, are also acceptable\, though not all functions will be available.
SUMMARY:Macro & Close-Up Photography Workshop- Hunt's Photo\, Melrose
DESCRIPTION:Saturday January 15th\, 10am-2pm • Hunt’s Photo\, Melrose \nInstructor: Emily Hojnowski \nFeaturing hands-on instruction on everything macro! \nRecommended prerequisite: Basic knowledge of your camera \nGroup Size: Limited to 10 attendees \nWorkshop Description\nToo often we feel that our photography comes to a halt during inclement weather. However\, there is ample opportunity to make use of our creativity while staying indoors. Many household items– cut flowers\, books\, antiques\, jewelry\, and glassware– all make for wonderful subjects while using natural window light. Every table in your house can become a landscape of opportunity with some imagination and creativity. \nWe will spend our day creating a variety of still life set ups\, unique macro scenarios\, and learning about the use of light and light modifiers.\nIn this workshop we will cover exposure\, composition\, how to use macro lenses and extension tubes\, how to set up lighting\, how to use light modifiers and more! \nWe will be bringing lots of props and flowers to photograph for this workshop. However\, we find in our macro workshops that our attendees value shooting some things of their own as much if not more than what we bring. So\, while we will have props\, feel free to bring your own props\, trinkets\, and other things that may (or may not) be important to you! \nRegister here\n***Having trouble registering? You can also register by clicking here! \n\nIf you are attending this workshop\, we will send out more specific instructions to you a few days prior to the workshop. Please note: Some slight details above can be subject to change. This email will detail any of those minor changes. \nPlease read Hunt’s Terms & Conditions before signing up. \nGear \n•A Macro lens will be your best lens of choice for this workshop. Remember\, we have a rental department at rentals.huntsphoto.com\n•Alternatively\, you could consider a prime lens (ex 50mm) or a long telephoto zoom lens\, but macro is still best\n•Macro filters or extension tubes could also work\n•For this workshop\, we always recommend bringing personal items that are special to you. Props\, trinkets\, jewelry\, flowers\, or even small toys are welcome. We will also have a large collection of items\, but if you have something of your own\, consider bringing it. Just remember- it should be small\, so don’t bring anything giant unless you want to photograph it very close-up.\n•Make sure to bring your tripod with a quick release plate and a shutter release\, if you have one.\n•Feel free to bring snacks and water\n•Bring an extra camera battery and memory cards.\n•As always\, bring your enthusiasm and creative thoughts!

SUMMARY:Online: The Printed Vision- Making a Fine Art Print
DESCRIPTION:Presentation: Thursday December 9th\, 7-8pm • Online! \nPrinted Image Review: Thursday December 16th\, 6-8pm • In our Hunt’s Melrose store or Online! \nRecommended prerequisite: An interest in printing (But you do NOT need a printer!) \nInstructor: Paul Nelson \nBelow the course description (but before registration) will be a short explanation on how the class will run.\nAbout The Printed Vision Series\nThe printed image shows our successes and our faults at a much higher level of detail than the digital image. To become better photographers\, it helps to understand this by creating the printed image as a final product\, which is the purpose behind the Printed Vision Series.\nEach Printed Vision topic will meet for two sessions. In the first session\, we will discuss the topic and elaborate on editing with examples. This will include discussion of exposure\, dynamic range and color\, but also deeper points\, such as noise reduction\, image sharpening and grain. In between sessions 1 and 2\, attendees will independently process 1-2 images and submit them to the instructor for printing. We will print one of the two images leading into the second session and discuss some of the challenges we face in printing them.\nYou do not need to produce a new image for this class and can go into your archives to print\, but you are welcome to go out into the field and create something new based on the topic! \nThis Month’s Printed Vision Session: Making a Fine Art Print \nTo print fine art or not to print fine art: That is the question. What does it mean to make a fine art print? What photographic papers define fine art? What editing choices should we make to get through the emotions of the print? How do we calculate our editing with our paper choices?\nIn this class\, we will discuss the answers to these questions in our instructional online presentation\, held on the first date\, then workshop your images in order to make a fine art print. We will reconvene the following week for our Printed Image Review. You will have that time period in between to edit and submit your images. In the end\, you will receive a fine art print of your edited image up to 13×19″ in size. (Please note: The cost of a 12×18 or 13×19 print on fine art paper is $35-$40; the cost of this class includes the cost of that print!)\nRemember\, tis the season\, and we don’t need to “buy buy buy” in order to give a wonderfully creative gift. Consider creating a fine art print and giving that to a friend or loved one! We will also discuss framing options and how that plays into the holidays.\nJoin us for this quintessential Printed Vision class! \nReceiving Your Print\nAfter the class\, your print can either be mailed to you or picked up at one of our Hunt’s Photo store locations. \nRegistering and what is needed\nAfter you register for this class\, you will receive a confirmation email that will include information about how to access the online class\, including an online ID code that you will need to get into the class. Make sure to save this information. We will also send a reminder email about 24 hours prior to the class time with that same information. \n“You Are Being Recorded” (And Other Note Related Items)\nWe will be recording this class! The video will be available for download about 24-hours after the class for all attendees\, so don’t worry about taking unending notes. We will send this link attendees to download and rewatch at any time. \nRegister here\n***Having trouble registering? SUMMARY:Flash! Blending Available Light with Your Speedlights
DESCRIPTION:Saturday\, December 4th\, 9am-2pm • Melrose\, MA \nFeaturing best practices on how to best use your speedlight on and off the camera \nRecommended prerequisite: Working knowledge of your camera We also recommend having some of the knowledge from our Beginner Photography class \nAll Skill Levels Welcome \nInstructors: Paul Nelson \nClass Size: Maximum 10 attendees \nWorkshop Description\nSpeedlights (aka “flashes”) are truly awesome tools in photography. Where there is no light\, we can create it. The problem is most speedlight owners struggle with settings\, the direction of the flash\, and how to get everything to look as you want it to! This is most evident at family gatherings and events: The lights are low and therefore the flash (when used improperly) is even more jarring! How can we eliminate that “deer in the headlights” look?\nNever fear! In this workshop\, we will teach you how to blend the speedlight with available light to create stunning results! We will simplify speedlights\, camera settings\, and teach you some of the essential basics to using your speedlight for family gatherings\, events\, and even still-life! Whether you are in a living space with a few spare lamps on or a large event space\, we will spell out the tools to get the job done. We will also work with the flash on and off-the-camera to show the variety of options there are! Since it is the holiday season and the season of lights\, we will emphasize scenarios that are common during the holidays\, working first with still life\, then portraits. \nThis will be a great learning experience for anyone looking to get practice with your speedlight! We recommend you have a speedlight for this workshop. Photographers of all skill levels are encouraged to attend. \nCOVID-19 Policies for Hunt’s Photo Walks and Workshops\nMasks will be required in our classroom. Please make sure to bring one.\nAs always\, if you are sick or feeling unwell\, STAY HOME! We will gladly give you a credit towards a future walk. \nRegister Here\n***Having trouble registering? These workshops are designed to help you create\, compose\, and photograph stellar mini-holiday masterpieces. Photographers that participate in these workshops will also have one of their holiday photographs printed 13×19″ and hung in the Hunt’s Photo Gallery in Melrose for the month of December. (More details below.)\nWe will begin each workshop with a demo that will discuss camera settings\, lighting\, composition\, subject placement\, and more. You will then create and photograph your compositions for the remainder of the time during the workshop\, with instructor assistance available. Our ultimate goal in this workshop is at least one “final piece” that can be printed on a large scale.\nAfter the workshop\, attendees will edit and process their images on their own and upload 1-2 images to the instructors for review. We will review those images\, individually discuss your processing choices and make suggestions for additional edits\, then print the images as 13×19″. These photographs will be hung in our Hunt’s Photo Gallery in Melrose for the month of December\, after which you will be given the print. We will conclude these workshops on Tuesday November 30th with a printed image review.\nBut wait… There’s more! In addition to all of this\, we will also create a holiday card for you on a Moab Entrada Folding Card. While this may seem like a very small item\, these cards are stunning– as much in importance as the large scale print!\nThis will be a fun and challenging workshop that will walk you through the full process of creating stellar holiday macro imagery. We will stay with you during the editing process\, and even guide you in understanding the best processing for a final print. Join us for one of our favorite workshops of the year! \nUpdated COVID-19 Policies for indoor Hunt’s Photo Walks and Workshops\nAt this time\, Hunt’s Photo Education will require face masks for this workshop.\nThis workshop will take place in our Hunt’s Photo Melrose classroom. We have limited the amount of attendees in order to give ample space to each attendee. We also ask that you maintain social distance whenever possible.\nAs always\, if you are sick or feeling unwell\, STAY HOME! We will gladly give you a credit towards a future walk. \nRegister here\n***Having trouble registering? You can also register by clicking here! \n\nIf you are attending this workshop\, we will send out more specific instructions to you a few days prior to the workshop. Please note: Some slight details above can be subject to change. This email will detail any of those minor changes. \nPlease read Hunt’s Terms & Conditions before signing up. \nGear \n•A Macro lens will be your best lens of choice for this workshop. Remember\, we have a rental department at rentals.huntsphoto.com\n•Alternatively\, you could consider a prime lens (ex 50mm) or a long telephoto zoom lens\, but macro is still best\n•Macro filters or extension tubes could also work\n•For this workshop\, we always recommend bringing holiday items that are special to you. Trinkets\, ornaments\, toys\, or anything holiday-related is recommended. We will also have a large collection of items\, but if you have something of your own\, consider bringing it. Just remember- it should be small\, so don’t bring a 2-foot teddy bear unless you want to photograph it very close-up.\n•Make sure to bring your tripod with a quick release plate and a shutter release\, if you have one.\n•Feel free to bring snacks and water\n•Bring an extra camera battery and memory cards.\n•As always\, bring your enthusiasm and creative thoughts!
