SUMMARY:Hunt's Photo Nifty Fifty Workshop: Beacon Hill
DESCRIPTION:Walk: Saturday\, August 28th\, 8-11am • Boston\, MA \nImage Review: Monday\, August 30th\, 7-9pm • Online! \n  \nWorking in the field with only a 50mm lens! \nFollowed by an image review & critique \nRecommended prerequisite: Working knowledge of your camera We also recommend having some of the knowledge from our Beginner Photography class \nMust have a 50mm lens \nAll Skill Levels Welcome \nInstructor: Don Toothaker \nSpecial guest from Sony\, Jon Helgason\, will be present with cameras and lenses to test out! \nClass Size: Maximum 8 attendees \nAbout the Nifty Fifty Workshops\nEvery photographer at one point or another has the internal struggle before going to photograph: What lenses should I bring with me today? The common answer is as many as I can without being too uncomfortable. And so we pack up our wide\, standard\, telephoto\, prime\, and macro lenses and head out into the field\, forcing ourselves to endure limitless choices while sacrificing simplicity.\nOur Nifty Fifty workshops flip the script and force you to only carry one lens: A 50mm lens\, nostalgically referred to as a “nifty fifty”. With limitations\, what can you– the photographer\, the creator\, the artist– achieve?\nThese workshops will start with our basic photo walk\, where we will meet in the field and work with only a 50mm lens in a specific location. Attendees will then submit a handful of images for an online image review\, to be held a few days later. During that image review\, we will be able to see others’ work\, discuss how to achieve different effects\, and consider editing choices. This is an excellent workshop for all photographers–from Beginner to Advanced–because it forces you to work in a different way. \nWalk Description\nFor this workshop\, we will be photographing in Beacon Hill. For generations\, Beacon Hill has been one of Boston’s most appealing neighborhoods\, and it is an excellent opportunity to use only a 50mm lens. Quaint historic streets\, beautiful Brownstones\, and unique detail help make Beacon Hill a rewarding location for photographers of every skill level\, all using that lovely 50mm glass. \n*Question: Are other prime lenses acceptable? Olympus/Panasonic users may use a 25mm lens\, since it gives the same look as a 50mm and other primes can be used as an alternative\, but we ask that you try to keep it at one prime in as close to that range as possible. Remember- this is a “nifty fifty” workshop\, not a “mighty ninety” workshop. (And does that even really rhyme?) \nSpecial Guest\nSpecial guest from Sony (and great friend to all at Hunt’s Photo and Hunt’s Photo Education)\, Jon Helgason\, will be present with Sony cameras and 50mm lenses to test out! You’re under no obligation to try the cameras\, but it is a great opportunity! \nUpdated COVID-19 Policies for outdoor Hunt’s Photo Walks and Workshops\nHunt’s Photo Education is aligning with CDC and state guidelines and will no longer require face masks for our outdoor Photo Walks. If you are more comfortable wearing a mask\, please feel free to do so. We also recommend bringing a mask\, just in case. We also ask that you maintain social distance of 6 feet from one another.\nWe will continue to have a maximum of 8 attendees per one instructor.\nAs always\, if you are sick or feeling unwell\, STAY HOME! We will gladly give you a credit towards a future walk. \nThese guidelines will stay in place until further notice. We appreciate your patience and understanding during this time. If you have any questions\, feel free to contact us at classes@huntsphoto.com. \nRegister here \n***Having trouble registering? You can also register by clicking here! \n \nIf you are attending this walk\, we will send out more specific instructions to you a few days prior to the walk. Please note: Some slight details above can be subject to change. This email will detail any of those minor changes.\nPlease read Hunt’s Terms & Conditions before signing up. \nDress and Gear \n•Make sure to dress accordingly with the most current weather report.\n•Only a 50mm lens will be necessary\n•You do not need a tripod\n•Feel free to bring snacks and water\, and a flashlight will likely help as well.\n•Bring an extra camera battery and memory cards.\n•A good\, fun attitude is always recommended!
