Boston is the oldest marathon in the world\, with runners taking part and challenging themselves up “Heartbreak Hill” since 1897. This course is unique\, historic\, and one of the most famous in the world: A straight-forward mostly downhill race from Hopkinton to Boston\, then up and down Heartbreak Hill (actually 3 separate hills)\, and finally\, right on Hereford\, left on Boylston.\nFor this workshop\, we will begin with an online presentation in the week leading up on photographing runners\, with an emphasis on gear\, settings\, technique\, and creativity. (This will be recorded\, in case you cannot attend.) We will then meet the morning of the marathon on Heartbreak Hill right after the 30K mark. This is a great area to photograph the runners with a great level of intensity\, as it is the point right before the last of the “Heartbreak Hills”. This is going to be a fantastic opportunity to get some spectacular sports shots! Join us for the fun!\nPlease Note: For security\, large bags and backpacks are not allowed on the marathon route. You will need to carry any lenses and gear you have out in the open. \nUpdated COVID-19 Policies for outdoor Hunt’s Photo Walks and Workshops\nHunt’s Photo Education is aligning with CDC and state guidelines and will no longer require face masks for our outdoor Photo Walks. If you are more comfortable wearing a mask\, please feel free to do so. We also recommend bringing a mask\, just in case. We also ask that you maintain social distance of 6 feet from one another.\nHunt’s Photo Education will still adhere to our 8 person attendee maximum per Photo Walk with a single instructor (unless otherwise noted).\nAs always\, if you are sick or feeling unwell\, STAY HOME! SUMMARY:Capture to Print: Rockport Harbor
DESCRIPTION:Walk: Saturday October 9th\, 8-11am • Rockport\, MA \nPrinted Image Review: Thursday October 14th\, 6-8pm • Online! or In-Person in Melrose\, MA \nRecommended prerequisite: Basic knowledge of your camera; tripod; interest in editing and printing \nAll Skill Levels Welcome \nInstructors: Emily Hojnowski & Paul Nelson \nGroup Size: Limited to 12 attendees \nAbout Capture to Print Workshops\nPrinting your photos will make you a better photographer. The first step to creating a great print is by understanding how to create a great photograph in the field.\nCapture-To-Print is an intermediate workshop that focuses not only on photography\, but also editing and printing! Half photo workshop\, half editing and printing\, we will take you through the whole process–from Capture to Print— to demonstrate what is important in the field\, how to effectively process photos\, and why printing is a necessity. \nAbout this workshop\nRockport is a premiere destination for photographers. The town is an eclectic mix of unique storefronts\, a beautiful harbor\, boats\, and a rich fishing tradition that offers a wide variety of photographic subjects. The town is both vibrant and weathered. Rockport is also one of the best places to have both a Photo Walk and a class. There’s a great variety to photograph in Rockport\, from architecture to scenery\, from portraits to macro\, in Color and in Black & White. We will also emphasize all of the elements to consider to obtain a truly amazing print in the end! \nAfter the workshop\, attendees will edit their photos on their own and upload 2-3 images to the instructors for review. We will review those edits\, individually discuss your editing choices and make suggestions for additional edits\, then print the images as 12×18″ on fine art paper. We will conclude the workshop the following week with a printed image review. We will hold the review in our Melrose store\, but if you cannot attend this\, you will also be able to watch it online. (The session will also be recorded if you cannot make it to the online session live.) \nThis will be a fun and challenging workshop that will walk you through the full process of creating a print\, from capture to edit to print. The process of printing is integral to developing one’s photographic vision. \nReceiving Your Print\nAfter the class\, your print can either be mailed to you or picked up at one of our Hunt’s Photo store locations. \nRegister here\n***Having trouble registering? You can also register by clicking here! \n\nIf you are attending this workshop\, we will send out more specific instructions to you a few days prior to the workshop. Please note: Some slight details above can be subject to change. This email will detail any of those minor changes. \nPlease read Hunt’s Terms & Conditions before signing up. \nDress and Gear \n•Make sure to dress accordingly with the most current weather report.\n•Consider bringing wide angle or standard zoom lenses\, and a telephoto zoom lens\n•A prime lens (or even a macro) may also suit you well.\n•You are welcome to bring Neutral Density (ND) filters\n•You can bring a telephoto zoom lens\, but be advised to bring only what you want to carry.\n•Make sure to bring your tripod with a quick release plate and a shutter release\, if you have one.\n•Feel free to bring snacks and water\, and a flashlight will likely help as well.\n•Bring an extra camera battery and memory cards.\n•As always\, bring your enthusiasm and creative thoughts!

SUMMARY:Online: Printed Vision Series- Printing in Black & White
DESCRIPTION:Recommended prerequisite: \nInstructor: Paul Nelson \nBelow the course description (but before registration) will be a short explanation on how the class will run.\nAbout The Printed Vision Series\nThe printed image shows our successes and our faults at a much higher level of detail than the digital image. To become better photographers\, it helps to understand this by creating the printed image as a final product\, which is the purpose behind the Printed Vision Series.\nEach Printed Vision topic will meet for two sessions. In the first session\, we will discuss the topic and elaborate on editing with examples. This will include discussion of exposure\, dynamic range and color\, but also deeper points\, such as noise reduction\, image sharpening and grain. In between sessions 1 and 2\, attendees will independently process 1-2 images and submit them to the instructor for printing. We will print one of the two images leading into the second session and discuss some of the challenges we face in printing them.\nYou do not need to produce a new image for this class and can go into your archives to print\, but you are welcome to go out into the field and create something new based on the topic! \nThis Month’s Printed Vision Session: Printing in Black & White\nBlack & White printing has an historic place in photography\, as for the past 175 years\, it has been the dominant method of printing and viewing photographs. There are many things to think about when we edit an image for printing in Black & White\, and this course will discuss those many items.\nIn this session\, we will discuss different paper options\, what to look for in the editing process\, and more. Our instructional online presentation will be held on June 8th from 7-8pm and we will reconvene for our Printed Image Review on June 24th from 7-9pm. You will have that time period in between to photograph and/or edit your images. In the end\, you will receive a 12×18″ print on fine art Baryta paper. (Please note: The cost of a 12×18 or 13×19 print on fine art paper is $35-$40; the cost of this class includes the cost of that print!) \nReceiving Your Print\nAfter the class\, your print can either be mailed to you or picked up at one of our Hunt’s Photo store locations. \nRegistering and what is needed\nAfter you register for this class\, you will receive a confirmation email that will include information about how to access the online class\, including an online ID code that you will need to get into the class. Make sure to save this information. We will also send a reminder email about 24 hours prior to the class time with that same information. \n“You Are Being Recorded” (And Other Note Related Items)\nWe will be recording this class! The video will be available for download about 24-hours after the class for all attendees\, so don’t worry about taking unending notes. We will send this link attendees to download and rewatch at any time. \nRegister here\n***Having trouble registering? You can also register by clicking here! \n \nPlease read Hunt’s Terms & Conditions before signing up.
