SUMMARY:Online: The Joy and Satisfaction of Creating (and Printing) Holiday Cards Using Lightroom & Photoshop
DESCRIPTION:Thursday November 18th\, 6-8pm EST • Online! \nRecommended prerequisite: \nAn interest in printing! \nInstructor: Paul Nelson \nClass Level: Beyond Basic \nWant to get this class after it’s been run?– We have an online store where you can purchase all our previously run classes here: https://ebay.huntsphoto.com/buy-previous-courses/\nBelow the course description (but before registration) will be a short explanation on how the class will run. \nCourse Description \nEvery year\, millions of Americans print off tens of holiday cards to send off to their loved ones\, both near and far. They print cards that include their family\, their pets\, and their experiences. They print cards with amazing landscapes\, timeless cityscapes\, and\, in general\, the beautiful things they’ve photographed.\nMore and more in the 21st century\, people have relied on the “creativity” of services such as Shutterfly\, Snapfish\, and the online giants that make your compositions drag and drop. But is there more to creating a meaningful holiday card?\nOh yes. Join Hunt’s Photo Education’s Paul Nelson as we dive into the creative side of making holiday cards. We’ll begin with pre-planning and visualizing your end result\, and understanding which programs and papers to use. We will then begin forming a few different “concept” cards in Adobe Lightroom Classic. When necessary\, we’ll shift over to Adobe Photoshop where we’ll discuss the most important tools for building a card\, including sizing\, creating layers\, adding text and text boxes\, adjusting opacity\, masking\, and more. We will finish by discussing our last step– exporting or printing the image. Whether you’re printing this on your own or sending it off to be printed elsewhere\, these are the essential tools you’ll need to know to get it looking the way it should look!\nThis 2-hour seminar will be JAM PACKED with information and will be recorded for your convenience in case you want to re-watch or cannot attend live. Questions may be asked throughout the evening.\nWe truly love creating holiday cards– join us as we discuss that passion! \nRegistering and what is needed\nAfter you register for this class\, you will receive a confirmation email that will include information about how to access the online class\, including an online ID code that you will need to get into the class. Make sure to save this information. We will also send a reminder email about 48 hours prior to the class time with that same information. \nLayout of the class\nThe class will begin promptly at the time listed. The majority of the class–roughly 1 hour– will be a presentation on the topic\, followed by a short Q&A. During the class\, you are welcome to type in questions in the Chat box if you have specific questions as they are asked. We will do our best to answer those questions\, but if not\, feel free to ask them at the end. \nWant to get this class after it’s been run?– We have an online store where you can purchase all our previously run classes here: https://ebay.huntsphoto.com/buy-previous-courses/ \nRegister here\n***Having trouble registering? You can also register by clicking here! \n \nPlease read Hunt’s Terms & Conditions before signing up.

These workshops are designed to help you create\, compose\, and photograph stellar mini-holiday masterpieces. Photographers that participate in these workshops will also have one of their holiday photographs printed 13×19″ and hung in the Hunt’s Photo Gallery in Melrose for the month of December. (More details below.)\nWe will begin each workshop with a demo that will discuss camera settings\, lighting\, composition\, subject placement\, and more. You will then create and photograph your compositions for the remainder of the time during the workshop\, with instructor assistance available. Our ultimate goal in this workshop is at least one “final piece” that can be printed on a large scale.\nAfter the workshop\, attendees will edit and process their images on their own and upload 1-2 images to the instructors for review. We will review those images\, individually discuss your processing choices and make suggestions for additional edits\, then print the images as 13×19″. These photographs will be hung in our Hunt’s Photo Gallery in Melrose for the month of December\, after which you will be given the print. We will conclude these workshops on Tuesday November 30th with a printed image review.\nBut wait… There’s more! In addition to all of this\, we will also create a holiday card for you on a Moab Entrada Folding Card. While this may seem like a very small item\, these cards are stunning– as much in importance as the large scale print!\nThis will be a fun and challenging workshop that will walk you through the full process of creating stellar holiday macro imagery. We will stay with you during the editing process\, and even guide you in understanding the best processing for a final print. Join us for one of our favorite workshops of the year! \nUpdated COVID-19 Policies for indoor Hunt’s Photo Walks and Workshops\nAt this time\, Hunt’s Photo Education will require face masks for this workshop.\nThis workshop will take place in our Hunt’s Photo Melrose classroom. We have limited the amount of attendees in order to give ample space to each attendee. We also ask that you maintain social distance whenever possible.\nAs always\, if you are sick or feeling unwell\, STAY HOME! We will gladly give you a credit towards a future walk. \nRegister here\n***Having trouble registering? You can also register by clicking here! \n\nIf you are attending this workshop\, we will send out more specific instructions to you a few days prior to the workshop. Please note: Some slight details above can be subject to change. This email will detail any of those minor changes. \nPlease read Hunt’s Terms & Conditions before signing up. \nGear \n•A Macro lens will be your best lens of choice for this workshop. Remember\, we have a rental department at rentals.huntsphoto.com\n•Alternatively\, you could consider a prime lens (ex 50mm) or a long telephoto zoom lens\, but macro is still best\n•Macro filters or extension tubes could also work\n•For this workshop\, we always recommend bringing holiday items that are special to you. Trinkets\, ornaments\, toys\, or anything holiday-related is recommended. We will also have a large collection of items\, but if you have something of your own\, consider bringing it. Just remember- it should be small\, so don’t bring a 2-foot teddy bear unless you want to photograph it very close-up.\n•Make sure to bring your tripod with a quick release plate and a shutter release\, if you have one.\n•Feel free to bring snacks and water\n•Bring an extra camera battery and memory cards.\n•As always\, bring your enthusiasm and creative thoughts!

SUMMARY:Online: The Printed Vision- Workshopping Holiday Cards
DESCRIPTION:Presentation: Monday November 22nd\, 7-8pm • Online! \nReview of the Cards: Tuesday December 7th\, 7-9pm • Online! \nRecommended prerequisite: \nInstructor: Paul Nelson \nBelow the course description (but before registration) will be a short explanation on how the class will run.\nAbout The Printed Vision Series\nThe printed image shows our successes and our faults at a much higher level of detail than the digital image. To become better photographers\, it helps to understand this by creating the printed image as a final product\, which is the purpose behind the Printed Vision Series.\nEach Printed Vision topic will meet for two sessions. In the first session\, we will discuss the topic and elaborate on editing with examples. This will include discussion of exposure\, dynamic range and color\, but also deeper points\, such as noise reduction\, image sharpening and grain. In between sessions 1 and 2\, attendees will independently process 1-2 images and submit them to the instructor for printing. We will print one of the two images leading into the second session and discuss some of the challenges we face in printing them.\nYou do not need to produce a new image for this class and can go into your archives to print\, but you are welcome to go out into the field and create something new based on the topic! \nThis Month’s Printed Vision Session: Workshopping Holiday Cards\nIn case you haven’t noticed\, this instructor puts a lot of stress and effort into holiday and greeting cards! So many things can be said about printing small: If you can’t make it good small\, you can’t make it good big; printing small presents a wonderful level of intimacy; cards are a way to easily distribute your work\, your passions\, your vision! In this instructor’s mind\, nothing is better than a pristine\, home-printed card.\nThe purpose of this class is twofold: 1- Find an image and workshop it for maximum effect in a printed card and 2- Work with you on how to print. IMPORTANT: In every printed vision class\, we print images. Usually\, it’s a large scale print\, but here we will be printing cards. In the end\, we will print 10 cards that will be yours to distribute. Please note: We will not have the ability to print hundreds of holiday cards for you in this way. The purpose is for us to see the end result and create small-batch custom prints accordingly. \nReceiving Your Print\nAfter the class\, your print can either be mailed to you or picked up at one of our Hunt’s Photo store locations. \nRegistering and what is needed\nAfter you register for this class\, you will receive a confirmation email that will include information about how to access the online class\, including an online ID code that you will need to get into the class. Make sure to save this information. We will also send a reminder email about 24 hours prior to the class time with that same information. \n“You Are Being Recorded” (And Other Note Related Items)\nWe will be recording this class! The video will be available for download about 24-hours after the class for all attendees\, so don’t worry about taking unending notes. We will send this link attendees to download and rewatch at any time. \nRegister here\n***Having trouble registering? You can also register by clicking here!
