We encourage photographers of all skill levels to consider these classes\, as they will build upon your experience and provide an excellent chance to work on your imagery! \nSpeedlights 101 and Beyond!\nThis class is all about two things: Learning how to use the basics of your flash on the camera and how (and why) to take the flash off the camera.\nJoin Hunt’s Photo Educator Paul Nelson as we discuss how to take pictures using a speedlight\, and make them look great\, no matter what the situation. We will discuss photographing people\, but also photographing product and flashes work. We’ll talk all about the basics\, including modes\, settings\, and more!\nWhether you own a flash and have no idea how to use it\, you want to take great photos at functions and family events that are in low light\, or you just want to learn how to add a flash into your repertoire\, this course is for you! \nIn week one\, we will look at the basic camera and flash settings when using the flash on the camera\, including light positioning. In week two\, we will get a bit more creative by adding in diffusion and reflectors. We will also work to refine flash positioning and camera settings to maximize efficiency. In week three\, we will demonstrate taking the flash off-camera and show some of the benefits of doing that. In week four\, we will tie together the whole process\, including how to properly edit photos. \nEach week we will have a general presentation and discussion about a topic and will present an assignment. You can submit for the assignment or just watch our weekly critiques of others–it’s up to you! We will also supplement the class with additional instructional videos.  \nYou don’t need to know the inner workings of your flash to take this class! Photographers of all levels should apply\, even those at a basic level\, as we will cascade the learning process. You should have a speedlight\, aka a flash that is detachable from your camera. Flash triggers can be helpful. A reflector may also be helpful. Note: This is not a class about the on-board flash on your camera. But how do we use flash off-camera and under what circumstances? Where do we place the subject in relation to the natural light\, where do we place the flash\, and what sort of diffusers do we need? Finally\, what settings do we need for the flash and what settings do we need for the camera?     \nJoin Hunt’s Photo Education as we continue our Multi-Session Series with portraits and flash! In this class\, we will answer the above questions and more through a series of presentations\, discussions\, critiques\, and assignments.  \nIn week one\, we will look at where and when we can integrate flash into our photographs\, as well as how to effectively work it in with flash settings and positioning and camera settings. In week two\, we will look back at images from week 1 and discuss editing techniques. We will work to refine flash positioning and subject posing to maximize effectiveness. In week three\, we will work on alternative flash positioning\, integrating a flash in as a secondary or effect light and on additional techniques\, such as high-speed sync. If you have great light\, there is a good chance of a great image. But what is great light\, how to make the best of the available light\, and what if you could have absolute control over the light? \nJoin us for a survey course in lighting\, with an emphasis on lighting for headshots. Discussed will be Quality of Light\, how to recognize it\, and how to control and modify it. We’ll start with available light\, how to control it with reflectors\, and how to augment it with camera flash. \nThen we will discuss how to take complete control of the lighting with studio grade lighting\, revisiting Quality of Light\, discussing the size of the light\, the direction of the light\, and the color of the light. DESCRIPTION:Join photographers Bobbi Lane and Lee Varis (“The Mistress of Light” and “The Sultan of Skin”) for a workshop that will emphasize how to appropriately pose any subject\, from individuals to couples and families.  \nEveryone wants to make wonderful photos of their family\, friends and associates and learn how to pose them in a natural and relaxed way. People need a good portrait for social media\, both fun and business! This class covers how to pose individuals and couples and also demonstrates effective communication methods to help your subjects feel at ease. The posing techniques will be for both male and female individuals for headshots\, senior portraits\, how to pose for ¾ and full length\, couples – including engagement photos\, and families. Learn how to make locations work for you and find the scene to make a great composition and set up creative situations. This class will elevate your confidence for shooting on location with creative ideas. \nFor this workshop\, we will begin with a class in our Hunt’s Photo\, Melrose location and continue in the afternoon at the Saugus Iron Works with models. Lunch will be included. \nWorkshop Overview \n9 am: Class overview\, student intros\, image presentation and shooting demos on posing. \n11:30am: Break for lunch \n12:30pm: We will depart for Saugus\, about 10-15 minutes away. \n1-5:00pm: Students photograph a variety of models  \n5pm: Wrap up discussion. We will not be returning to Melrose after the workshop. \nStudents must be familiar with their cameras and lenses and basic photography technique.  \nA medium telephoto lens is suggested\, ranging from 50mm to 120mm. \n \nUpon signing up for this workshop\, you will receive a confirmation email that you have signed up. Photographers of all skill levels are encouraged to attend. \nOn this workshop\, we will utilize iconic Portland Head Light. Portland Head Light is truly a beautiful location\, with a great deal of variety and depth. There’s the lighthouse\, of course\, but there’s also the beach area\, old buildings\, rocky areas\, and a small garden\, all of which makes Portland Head Light an easy location to choose for portraits\, from engagement sessions to senior portraits\, and even fashion.  We will begin this workshop basic and make our way up\, going to different areas to get different effects.\nWe will also integrate in a number of techniques with flash. You do not need to own a flash for this workshop\, but it certainly doesn’t hurt to own one and have an interest in using it! We will integrate in a little bit of flash and end utilizing High Speed Sync (or similar techniques) in our last hour of shooting. \nFor anyone interested in improving working with subjects in natural light situations as well as dabbling in outdoor flash\, this workshop is an excellent opportunity!  \nYou may bring your own gear\, including reflectors and speedlights\, but we will begin with gear that anyone can use\, including:\n-Basic reflectors\n-A Variety of brands of Speedlights\n-Phottix & Pocket Wizard Triggers\n-Westcott & Phottix Softboxes\n-Rogue Flashbender products \nWhat to bring:\n-Camera with fully charged battery\n-Memory cards\n-For lenses\, consider bringing lenses between 50mm and 100mm.
