SUMMARY:Online: Trigger Happy! How (and why) to Use Wireless Flash Triggers
DESCRIPTION:Below the course description (but before registration) will be a short explanation on how the class will run. \nMost portrait photographers will tell you that the best way to use a flash is off-the-camera. But how do you take a flash off the camera? The answer is through wireless flash triggers! So\, does it make more sense to buy Manual triggers or TTL? How do you use each of them effectively? And by the way\, did you know you can fire a camera using these triggers?\nJoin Hunt’s Photo Education’s Paul Nelson as we talk all about triggers\, Manual and TTL\, Pocket Wizard\, Phottix\, GoDox\, and more. In addition to the presentation\, we’ll get hands-on with a bunch of different options that are out there. This class is a great way to learn more about how to use these fun little devices that can be vexing or a lifesaver! \nRegistering and what is needed\nAfter you register for this class\, you will receive a confirmation email that will include information about how to access the online class\, including an online ID code that you will need to get into the class. Make sure to save this information. We will also send a reminder email about 48 hours prior to the class time with that same information. \nLayout of the class\nThe class will begin promptly at the time listed. The majority of the class–roughly 1 hour– will be a presentation on the topic\, followed by a short Q&A. During the class\, you are welcome to type in questions in the Chat box if you have specific questions as they are asked. We will do our best to answer those questions\, but if not\, feel free to ask them at the end. \n“You Are Being Recorded” (And Other Note Related Items)\nWe will be recording this class! The video will be available for download about 24-hours after the class for all attendees\, so don’t worry about taking unending notes. We will send this link attendees to download and rewatch at any time. In addition to this\, we will generally send out a PDF of the presentation (when applicable) and handouts on the topic. If handouts and PDFs are included\, we will send it out with the link for the video. \nCan’t attend the class? \nIf you can’t attend the class but still want to download the video\, no problem: Just sign up for the class! You don’t need to attend and we will send the video and PDF link the next day! \nWant to get this class after it’s been run?– We have an online store where you can purchase all our previously run classes here: https://ebay.huntsphoto.com/buy-previous-courses/ \n \nPlease read Hunt’s Terms & Conditions before signing up.

SUMMARY:Online: Portraits Outside Using Natural Light and Flash!
DESCRIPTION:Below the course description (but before registration) will be a short explanation on how the class will run. \nEveryone loves taking portraits in natural light\, especially when the circumstances are just right\, the overcast clouds have moved in\, the temperature is in the mid-70s\, all the hair and make-up has been done\, and the wild horses are galloping in the distance.\nOf course\, we’re being facetious- sometimes it can be that easy\, but not always. Sometimes\, it’s a great idea to use natural light for outdoor portraits. Sometimes\, we can find the perfect scenario lighting conditions\, but what if we can’t? Or what if we want to get a shot some place where the light is different?\nJoin Hunt’s Photo Educator Paul Nelson as we discuss photographing portraits outdoors using both natural light and flash. We’ll begin by discussing what optimal conditions are for natural light portraits\, then add in the element of flash and when to use it\, and finish by specifically demonstrating how to set up your camera and flash\, off-camera! We’ll also discuss:\n•Diffusers and light modifiers\n•Where to place your lights (and your subject)\n•Different trigger options\n•Light meters\n•How to light for a variety of scenes \nIf you feel intimidated by using flash outdoors\, join us for a lot of fun! \nRegistering and what is needed\nAfter you register for this class\, you will receive a confirmation email that will include information about how to access the online class\, including an online ID code that you will need to get into the class. SUMMARY:Online: Light Painting Basics
DESCRIPTION:In response to COVID-19 and recommendations by the CDC of social distancing\, Hunt’s Photo Education is presenting our new series of online classes! These courses will be shorter (about 1 hour)\, online versions of many classes that we currently offer\, plus a few new ones\, and include Q&A at the end.\nBelow the course description (but before registration) will be a short explanation on how the class will run. \nIt’s relatively easy to shoot when you have a whole bunch of light\, but when the sun goes down and the lights go out things change? Light Painting is the process of adding artificial light to another otherwise dark scene. This can be painting with light in a pattern\, or simply adding light to an area of your shot that is dark and in need of light. Light Painting is a fun and challenging technique to stretch your creativity. In the seminar\, join Hunt’s Photo Educator Otha Sonnie and learn the basics of bringing things to light\, in the dark! \nRegistering and what is needed\nAfter you register for this class\, you will receive a confirmation email that will include information about how to access the online class\, including an online ID code that you will need to get into the class. SUMMARY:Online: Setting Up the Home Portrait Studio
DESCRIPTION:In response to COVID-19 and recommendations by the CDC of social distancing\, Hunt’s Photo Education is presenting our new series of online classes! (Hey! We wanted to do it anyway\, this just sped up the process!) These courses will be shorter (about 1 hour)\, online versions of many classes that we currently offer\, plus a few new ones\, and include Q&A at the end.\nBelow the course description (but before registration) will be a short explanation on how the class will run. \nWe often receive questions about what is important to have in a home portrait studio. During our portrait workshops (and when time allows)\, we often like to set everything up with the attendees to get an idea of what we are using and why we are using it. We will answer these questions\, as well as:\n•The importance of multiple lights\n•What lenses to use\n•Where to place the subject and backgrounds\n•Studio strobes vs. speedlights\n•On-brand vs. off-brand speedlights\n•The purpose of a square softbox vs an octobox\n•Softboxes vs. umbrellas\n•Triggers & Light meters\n•What other important elements you should have in the studio \nJoin Hunt’s Photo Educator Paul Nelson as we discuss the basic elements of setting up a home portrait studio! One should never feel limited by creativity\, and often working with lighting gear\, folks feel disoriented. Let us help take away some of the mystery! \nRegistering and what is needed\nAfter you register for this class\, you will receive a confirmation email that will include information about how to access the online class\, including an online ID code that you will need to get into the class. SUMMARY:Online: Lighting for Headshots
\nThe saying “It’s all about the light”\, could not be truer for photography. If you have great light\, there is a good chance of a great image. But what is great light\, how to make the best of the available light\, and what if you could have absolute control over the light? \nJoin us for a survey course in lighting\, with an emphasis on lighting for headshots. Discussed will be Quality of Light\, how to recognize it\, and how to control and modify it. We’ll start with available light\, how to control it with reflectors\, and how to augment it with camera flash. \nThen we will discuss how to take complete control of the lighting with studio grade lighting\, revisiting Quality of Light\, discussing the size of the light\, the direction of the light\, and the color of the light. Starting with one light\, then adding a second\, then third\, to achieve just the look you want. \nThe beauty of using studio flash is once you find the look or looks you like\, they are repeatable. Instead of worrying about lighting you can concentrate on posing and expressions. So\, the next time a portrait opportunity comes along requiring studio lighting\, instead of declining saying “I’m an available light photographer”\, say “Great\, lets schedule a date”. \nRegistering and what is needed\nAfter you register for this class\, you will receive a confirmation email that you have signed up. About 24 hours prior to the class time\, we will send out an email with the weblink for you to follow as well as information on how to access the class online. (It’s pretty easy\, but we’ll walk you through it in a quick online video!) \nLayout of the class\nThe class will begin promptly at the time listed. The majority of the class–roughly 1 hour– will be a presentation on the topic\, followed by a short Q&A. During the class\, you are welcome to type in questions in the Chat box if you have specific questions as they are asked. SUMMARY:Hollywood Lighting Workshop in the Style of George Hurrell with Bobbi Lane and Lee Varis
DESCRIPTION:Join photographers Bobbi Lane and Lee Varis in conjunction with Hunt’s Photo Education for a unique portrait workshop experience. \nThis weekend workshop provides a hands-on experience learning Hollywood style lighting\, posing and studio workflow. Work in the studio with male and female models to re-create the classic glamour photography of the 1930’s and 40’s under the expert guidance of Bobbi and Lee. SUMMARY:Portraits in the Park with Bobbi Lane & Lee Varis
DESCRIPTION:The photographer’s challenge in creating a compelling portrait involves both creative and technical concepts combined in a way that evokes meaning and impact. This intensive and fun two-day workshop will show essential approaches to matching the light with your ideas. Good lighting techniques\, along with posing\, tonalities\, mood\, expression\, camera angles and backgrounds must harmonize to create a successful photographic portrait. \nEveryone has natural light available\, but not necessarily the understanding of how to find and manipulate it with reflectors and diffusers to create the most pleasing or effective image. In this workshop we will work with window light\, backlight\, open shade and garage door lighting and explore how the qualities of each contribute to the feeling of the portrait. \nWe will begin the day in the classroom with some discussion of what to look for when photographing\, including optimal settings\, environment\, subject posing and more. We will then continue on to the Saugus Iron Works\, our shooting location for the day\, where we will photograph a group of actors in the natural light of the park. \nThis is an excellent chance to work on numerous elements of portraiture\, including how to develop and enhance your natural light portraits\, as well as how to better place\, pose and direct your subjects.

SUMMARY:Real People Portraits with Bobbi Lane & Lee Varis
DESCRIPTION:The dynamic duo of Bobbi Lane\, the Mistress of Light\, and Lee Varis\, the Sultan of Skin take you on a photographic adventure to master the art of creating flattering and effective portraits of real people. You will learn the essential techniques for photographing normal people in the real world\, without fancy wardrobe\, expensive hair and makeup\, or extreme and difficult retouching. \nBobbi will show how to use corrective techniques to overcome challenging subjects and Lee will take the results and refine and finish the image into a marketable photograph. \nShooting tethered into the computer\, we demonstrate comprehensive lighting techniques and effective posing\, helping make the most pleasing portraits of difficult subjects: thin or heavy\, spectacled\, young or old\, folliclely challenged\, red or wrinkled. Lee will take the captured images to the next level with Lightroom and Photoshop enhancement techniques for quick fixes and complete makeovers that don’t require special artistic talent\, but instead utilize the power inherent in the basic software without extra plug-ins or extensions. \nThese techniques apply to all kinds of portraits: personal headshots\, business\, couples and families. Learning these skills help you make stronger and more salable images.
