SUMMARY:Online: Image Review and Critique Session: Low-Light & Night Photography
DESCRIPTION:Below the course description (but before registration) will be a short explanation on how the class will run. \nThere is so much to think about in photography– from settings and composition to editing and post processing and so much more– that it can be easy to get lost within your images. Join Hunt’s Photo Education for a chance to discuss one of your images in a review and critique session\, where we will discuss many of these topics and how they work in your image. Our Hunt’s Photo Education Team firmly believes that presenting personal work and observing peer work is paramount to the growth and development of your photographic vision. \nThis Week’s Topic\nThis week’s topic is Low Light and Night Photography! If you have taken a photograph in low light or at night\, it will work for this class! This is a great opportunity to get feedback on some of your photographic work\, and also see a variety of other styles of work from other photographers!\n During the review and critique\, we will discuss numerous topics\, such as image composition\, exposure\, focus\, and all the settings associated with the image. You are welcome to edit the image you submit or leave it unedited.\nIf you are editing and exporting from Lightroom or Capture One\, we ask that you export the image as a DNG\, or save the RAW file with a XMP sidecar file so that we can reedit the image\, if need be. (If you’re unsure what a DNG file is\, watch this short video about exporting as DNG. And if you cannot save the file in either formats and choose to submit an edited photo\, please submit an edited and unedited version so we can reedit\, if need be.)\nWe encourage photographers of all levels to consider this course\, as it is as valuable to seasoned professional as it is to a beginner! \nThis class will be a small group of up to 10-15 attendees. Upon registering\, you will receive a confirmation email that will include a link in order to upload images to us for the image review. We will also send out a reminder email a few days prior. Make sure to leave yourself enough time to upload your photo! \nJoin us for this exciting opportunity to share your photographic work with the community! \nRegistering and what is needed\nAfter you register for this class\, you will receive a confirmation email that will include information about how to access the online class\, including an online ID code that you will need to get into the class. Make sure to save this information. We will also send a reminder email about 48 hours prior to the class time with that same information. \nLayout of the class\nOur course layout is simple. This course will last about 90 minutes. During that time\, all attendees will be muted. When we critique your image\, we will unmute you\, so please have a working microphone on your computer/tablet.\n During the class\, you are welcome to type in questions in the Chat box if you have specific questions as they are asked. We will do our best to answer those questions\, but if not\, feel free to ask them at the end. \n“You Are Being Recorded” (And Other Note Related Items)\nWe will be recording this class! The video will be available for download about 24-hours after the class for all attendees\, so don’t worry about taking unending notes. We will send this link attendees to download and rewatch at any time. In addition to this\, we will generally send out a PDF of the presentation (when applicable) and handouts on the topic. If handouts and PDFs are included\, we will send it out with the link for the video. \nCan’t attend the class? \nIf you can’t attend the class but still want to download the video\, no problem: Just sign up for the class! You don’t need to attend and we will send the video and PDF link the next day! \nRegister here \n \nPlease read Hunt’s Terms & Conditions before signing up.

SUMMARY:Online: The Color of Light- Understanding White Balance
DESCRIPTION:Below the course description (but before registration) will be a short explanation on how the class will run. \nPhotography is all about light and one important factor of light is COLOR! Color can change the story\, message\, mood\, or feeling of an image and it’s important that we understand the why and the how when it comes to manipulating the color of light. In many genres of photography\, it is crucial that the color of light is accurate and represents real life. In other genres\, the photographer can manipulate the color of the light to achieve a desired look or mood. We will discuss the advantages of setting custom white balance in camera and also how to master it in post-production. Join Emily Hojnowski as we discuss the technical and artistic aspects of the color of light! \nRegistering and what is needed\nAfter you register for this class\, you will receive a confirmation email that will include information about how to access the online class\, including an online ID code that you will need to get into the class. Make sure to save this information. We will also send a reminder email about 24 hours prior to the class time with that same information. \nLayout of the class\nThe class will begin promptly at the time listed. The majority of the class–roughly 1 hour– will be a presentation on the topic\, followed by a short Q&A. During the class\, you are welcome to type in questions in the Chat box if you have specific questions as they are asked. We will do our best to answer those questions\, but if not\, feel free to ask them at the end. \n“You Are Being Recorded” (And Other Note Related Items)\nWe will be recording this class! SUMMARY:Online: Multi-Session Series- Mastering Manual Mode
DESCRIPTION:Join Hunt’s Photo Education for our new Multi-Session Series. In our Multi-Session Series\, we will meet over the course of a number of weeks\, generally at the same time each week. During that time\, we will discuss a specific element of a topic and end the session by giving a photographic assignment. That assignment will be due for completion before the next class meeting\, and we will review those images at the start of the next session. If for some reason you cannot attend one of the sessions\, don’t worry! They will be recorded and you will be able to watch them at your leisure!\nOur Multi-Session Series is designed to “keep the conversation going” by engaging with our attendees in a more personal way. In each of these classes\, we will have 10-15 attendees and provide direct feedback on images. We encourage photographers of all skill levels to consider these classes\, as they will build upon your experience and provide an excellent chance to work on your imagery! \nMastering Manual Mode\nLearning about photography can be a real challenge. There are so many pieces to the puzzle of photography\, some of which use confusing terminology. For this reason\, we often start newcomers off using the Priority Modes because it’s “easier”. In reality\, these priority modes are just a short-term solution. It’s important to fully understand the “why” and “how” of your camera settings\, and learning to master manual is an excellent way to do so. \nThis Multi-Session Series will focus on Mastering Manual Mode. In week 1\, we’ll cover the technical side of aperture\, shutter\, and ISO. We’ll also discuss metering modes\, reading your meter\, and understanding histograms. In week 2\, we’ll learn to control depth of field\, focusing\, and how lens choice affects aperture choice. By week 3\, we’ll discuss how to use shutter speed effectively to either blur your motion or freeze your action. We’ll talk about shooting at night and in low light. We’ll also talk about ISO and how it controls image noise. In week 4\, we’ll put everything together by discussing dynamic range\, white balance\, and how to get the correct exposure in camera every time. We’ll also answer the most important question of all: which change should I make to achieve my desired results? \nEach week Emily will give an assignment to help further the topics covered in that week’s class. Students are encouraged to send in assignments that will be individually critiqued by Emily each week. This is a great opportunity to enhance your exposure skills while getting direct feedback on your week. \nRegistering and what is needed\nAfter you register for this class\, you will receive a confirmation email that will include information about how to access the online class\, including an online ID code that you will need to get into the class. Make sure to save this information. We will also send a reminder email about 48 hours prior to the class time with that same information. \nLayout of the class\nThe class will begin promptly at the time listed. SUMMARY:Online: Multi-Session Series- Speedlights 101 and Beyond!
DESCRIPTION:Join Hunt’s Photo Education for a new Multi-Session Series session. In each of these classes\, we will have 10-15 attendees and provide direct feedback on images. We encourage photographers of all skill levels to consider these classes\, as they will build upon your experience and provide an excellent chance to work on your imagery! \nSpeedlights 101 and Beyond!\nThis class is all about two things: Learning how to use the basics of your flash on the camera and how (and why) to take the flash off the camera.\nJoin Hunt’s Photo Educator Paul Nelson as we discuss how to take pictures using a speedlight\, and make them look great\, no matter what the situation. We will discuss photographing people\, but also photographing product and flashes work. We’ll talk all about the basics\, including modes\, settings\, and more!\nWhether you own a flash and have no idea how to use it\, you want to take great photos at functions and family events that are in low light\, or you just want to learn how to add a flash into your repertoire\, this course is for you! \nIn week one\, we will look at the basic camera and flash settings when using the flash on the camera\, including light positioning. In week two\, we will get a bit more creative by adding in diffusion and reflectors. We will also work to refine flash positioning and camera settings to maximize efficiency. In week three\, we will demonstrate taking the flash off-camera and show some of the benefits of doing that. In week four\, we will tie together the whole process\, including how to properly edit photos. \nEach week we will have a general presentation and discussion about a topic and will present an assignment. You can submit for the assignment or just watch our weekly critiques of others–it’s up to you! We will also supplement the class with additional instructional videos. \nYou don’t need to know the inner workings of your flash to take this class! Photographers of all levels should apply\, even those at a basic level\, as we will cascade the learning process. You should have a speedlight\, aka a flash that is detachable from your camera. Flash triggers can be helpful. A reflector may also be helpful. Note: This is not a class about the on-board flash on your camera. In general\, we never recommend using the on-board flash (unless you absolutely have to). \nPhotographers should have an understanding of their camera and general exposure before taking this class. If for some reason you cannot attend one of the sessions\, don’t worry! They will be recorded and you will be able to watch them at your leisure! During each class\, you are welcome to type in questions in the Question box if you have specific questions as they are asked. \nNo online classes should be shared and cannot be shared in a public environment\, including with camera clubs\nThe online content is the copyright of Hunt’s Photo Education and/or the Instructor. SUMMARY:Online: Multi-Session Series- Editing in Adobe Lightroom Classic
DESCRIPTION:Below the course description (but before registration) will be a short explanation on how the class will run. \nJoin Hunt’s Photo Education for our new Multi-Session Series. \nEditing in Adobe Lightroom\nThis is a great opportunity to build up your editing skills in Lightroom!\nAdobe Lightroom is the choice program for professionals and amateurs\, with ever-growing capabilities and options. However\, there are many levels to understanding in the program. What do we do to make basic changes? Once we learn those changes\, how can we “step it up” and figure out what to we’re supposed to do? How do we make images pop? And finally\, how do we put it all together and making finishing touches to our images.\nJoin Hunt’s Photo Education for this three-week course that helps answer many of these questions. What’s most important about this course is that we will give weekly editing assignments\, and we will review those edits at the start of the following week. Often\, Lightroom users struggle with the inability to determine what changes are “good” or “correct”. While those terms are subjective\, we will help you along in the editing process to see how to make determinations along the way.\nIn week one\, we’ll talk about file types and adjustment ranges using Basic Development controls. More than anything\, we will be emphasizing global changes and understanding what can be done with an image in Lightroom. In week two\, we’ll dive into Color\, Curves\, Contrast & Clarity & Texture. These changes will help make your images pop. Finally\, in week three\, we’ll discuss advanced editing\, including Sharpening\, HDR\, Pano stitching and more.\nEach week\, we will give an assignment and students will upload their edited photos prior to the next class. We will\, by and large\, be working with your images in the class. \nThis class is strongly recommended for anyone either looking to just get started with editing\, or to fine-tune your editing skills! \nAfter you register for this class\, you will receive a confirmation email that will include information about how to access the online class\, including an online ID code that you will need to get into the class. Make sure to save this information. We will also send a reminder email about 24 hours prior to the class time with that same information. \nLayout of the class\nThe class will begin promptly at the time listed. SUMMARY:Online: Multi-Session Series- Speedlights 101 and Beyond!
DESCRIPTION:Join Hunt’s Photo Education for a new Multi-Session Series session. In our Multi-Session Series\, we will meet over the course of a number of weeks\, generally at the same time each week. During that time\, we will discuss a specific element of a topic and end the session by giving a photographic assignment. \nRegistering and what is needed\nAfter you register for this class\, you will receive a confirmation email that will include information about how to access the online class\, including an online ID code that you will need to get into the class. If for some reason you cannot attend one of the sessions\, don’t worry! They will be recorded and you will be able to watch them at your leisure! During each class\, you are welcome to type in questions in the Question box if you have specific questions as they are asked. \nNo online classes should be shared and cannot be shared in a public environment\, including with camera clubs\nThe online content is the copyright of Hunt’s Photo Education and/or the Instructor. \nThis Week’s Topic\nThis week’s topic is flowers! If you have taken a photograph of flowers\, this is a great opportunity to get feedback\, while also seeing a variety of other images from other photographers!\n During the review and critique\, we will discuss numerous topics\, such as image composition\, exposure\, focus\, and all the settings associated with the image. If for some reason you cannot attend one of the sessions\, don’t worry! They will be recorded and you will be able to watch them at your leisure! During each class\, you are welcome to type in questions in the Question box if you have specific questions as they are asked. \nNo online classes should be shared and cannot be shared in a public environment\, including with camera clubs\nThe online content is the copyright of Hunt’s Photo Education and/or the Instructor. SUMMARY:Online: The Printed Vision- Subtle Smoothness of Matte
DESCRIPTION:Below the course description (but before registration) will be a short explanation on how the class will run.\nAbout The Printed Vision Series\nThe printed image shows our successes and our faults at a much higher level of detail than the digital image. To become better photographers\, it helps to understand this by creating the printed image as a final product\, which is the purpose behind the Printed Vision Series.\nEach Printed Vision topic will meet for two sessions. In the first session\, we will discuss the topic and elaborate on editing with examples. This will include discussion of exposure\, dynamic range and color\, but also deeper points\, such as noise reduction\, image sharpening and grain. In between sessions 1 and 2\, attendees will independently process 1-2 images and submit them to the instructor for printing. We will print one of the two images leading into the second session and discuss some of the challenges we face in printing them.\nYou do not need to produce a new image for this class and can go into your archives to print\, but you are welcome to go out into the field and create something new based on the topic! \nThis Month’s Printed Vision Session: The Subtle Smoothness of Matte\nTo someone that doesn’t print\, there are two types of paper–Matte and Glossy. Often\, people refer to Matte as the “less shiny” surface. In reality\, there are so many variations to Matte paper\, a surface that has no glare\, sheen\, and little reflectivity. But within this paper surface is a thing of beauty\, a subtle smoothness that\, when edited properly\, can create an almost three-dimensional quality.\n We will have an instructional online presentation on March 25th from 7-8pm and will reconvene for our Printed Image Review on April 8th from 7-9pm. You will have that time period in between to photograph and/or edit your images. In the end\, you will receive a 13×19″ print on fine art paper. In the class\, we will be using a variety of paper options\, including Moab\, Hahnemuhle\, and Canson Fine Art papers. (Please note: The cost of a 12×18 or 13×19 print on fine art paper is $35-$40; the cost of this class includes the cost of that print!) \nReceiving Your Print\nAfter the class\, your print can either be mailed to you or picked up at one of our Hunt’s Photo store locations. \nRegistering and what is needed\nAfter you register for this class\, you will receive a confirmation email that will include information about how to access the online class\, including an online ID code that you will need to get into the class. Make sure to save this information. We will also send a reminder email about 24 hours prior to the class time with that same information. \n“You Are Being Recorded” (And Other Note Related Items)\nWe will be recording this class! We will send this link attendees to download and rewatch at any time. \nRegister here\n*Please note: We have been experiencing issues with registration on the Safari web browser\, so you may want to consider using an alternative browser such as Google Chrome or Firefox. Should you use a prime or zoom? Do you need a fast aperture? Why are some lenses so much more expensive? And why are some so heavy? SUMMARY:Online: Multi-Session Series- Taking Your Flash Off the Camera
DESCRIPTION:Below the course description (but before registration) will be a short explanation on how the class will run. \nJoin Hunt’s Photo Education for our Multi-Session Series. \nTaking Your Flash Off the Camera\nAny photographer that uses a flash will tell you: You’ll get the best results when you take it off the camera. But why? And what do you look for in your imagery? What camera and flash settings do we use? What kind of triggers do you need and how do you use them? How do you integrate your flash in an outdoor scene? How do you use it in a studio environment? How do we create dramatic lighting? How can we create soft lighting or contrasty lighting? What about diffusers and what’s a gobo?\nJoin Hunt’s Photo Education as we answer all of these questions and more through a series of presentations\, discussions\, critiques\, and assignments. ! Whether you’re a portrait photographer or a still life photographer\, this class will help you get a mastery of lighting with your flash off the camera. This is an excellent continuation of our Speedlights 101 course. \nEach week we will have a general presentation and discussion about a topic and will present an assignment. You can submit for the assignment or just watch our weekly critiques of others–it’s up to you! We will also supplement the class with additional instructional videos AND lighting diagrams (for test shots) which we will discuss in class. \nYou don’t need to be a professional to take this course\, or even know advanced concepts of Photoshop\, nor the inner workings of your flash. Photographers of all levels should apply\, as we will cascade the learning process. We do recommend having either Adobe Lightroom or Capture One editing software\, as well as Adobe Photoshop; if you plan to submit images\, you should have flash triggers; a reflector will also be helpful.\nPhotographers should have an understanding of exposure before taking this class. \nGet excited to use your flash and join us for a fun time! \nRegistering and what is needed\nAfter you register for this class\, you will receive a confirmation email that will include information about how to access the online class\, including an online ID code that you will need to get into the class.
