These classes are designed to provide you time\, opportunity\, and guidance in shaping your creative photographic voice. We will give an overview on a specific topic in an online class session\, then give you time to go into the field by yourself (or with someone else\, if you choose) to complete an assignment based on that topic. We will reconvene a few days later for an online image review to discuss elements of your images.\nThe Personal Vision Series is a crossroads of many different ideas that we offer with Hunt’s Photo Education: Topic-based instruction/classes\, Photo Walks\, & Image Reviews. However\, unlike a Photo Walk where we will all take a certain direction\, for the “Walk” portion\, you will be asked to journey out on your own to photograph. This will cause you to be the driving force of your creativity and vision!\nThis week’s topic is Spring in Motion. We will have an instructional online presentation on May 6th from 7-8pm and will reconvene for our Image Review on May 13th from 7-9pm. You will have that time period in between to photograph and edit our assignment.\nYour personal creative voice is critical to your growth as a photographer and as an artist. Join us for to help grow that voice! \nRegistering and what is needed\nAfter you register for this class\, you will receive a confirmation email that will include information about how to access the online class\, including an online ID code that you will need to get into the class. Make sure to save this information. We will also send a reminder email about 24 hours prior to the class time with that same information. \n“You Are Being Recorded” (And Other Note Related Items)\nWe will be recording this class! The video will be available for download about 24-hours after the class for all attendees\, so don’t worry about taking unending notes. We will send this link attendees to download and rewatch at any time. \nNo online classes should be shared and cannot be shared in a public environment\, including with camera clubs\nThe online content is the copyright of Hunt’s Photo Education and/or the Instructor. Please support our education team and instructors by not sharing this material! We appreciate your support\, and it’s thanks to that support that we are able to continue producing content! \nRegister here\n*Please note: We have been experiencing issues with registration on the Safari web browser\, so you may want to consider using an alternative browser such as Google Chrome or Firefox. SUMMARY:Online: Multi-Session Series- Editing in Adobe Lightroom Classic
DESCRIPTION:Recommended prerequisite: This class is solely on editing and processing your images in Lightroom. We recommend having understanding of how file organization in Lightroom works\, so we recommend our online File Management in Lightroom course prior to taking this class. \nJoin Hunt’s Photo Education for our new Multi-Session Series. In our Multi-Session Series\, we will meet over the course of a number of weeks\, generally at the same time each week. During that time\, we will discuss a specific element of a topic and end the session by giving a photographic assignment. That assignment will be due for completion before the next class meeting\, and we will review those images at the start of the next session. If for some reason you cannot attend one of the sessions\, don’t worry! They will be recorded and you will be able to watch them at your leisure!\nOur Multi-Session Series is designed to “keep the conversation going” by engaging with our attendees in a more personal way. In each of these classes\, we will have limited attendees and provide direct feedback on images. We encourage photographers of all skill levels to consider these classes\, as they will build upon your experience and provide an excellent chance to work on your imagery! \nEditing in Adobe Lightroom\nThis is a great opportunity to build up your editing skills in Lightroom!\nAdobe Lightroom is the choice program for professionals and amateurs\, with ever-growing capabilities and options. However\, there are many levels to understanding in the program. What do we do to make basic changes? Once we learn those changes\, how can we “step it up” and figure out what to we’re supposed to do? How do we make images pop? And finally\, how do we put it all together and making finishing touches to our images.\nJoin Hunt’s Photo Education for this three-week course that helps answer many of these questions. What’s most important about this course is that we will give weekly editing assignments\, and we will review those edits at the start of the following week. Often\, Lightroom users struggle with the inability to determine what changes are “good” or “correct”. While those terms are subjective\, we will help you along in the editing process to see how to make determinations along the way.\nIn week one\, we’ll talk about file types and adjustment ranges using Basic Development controls. More than anything\, we will be emphasizing global changes and understanding what can be done with an image in Lightroom. In week two\, we’ll dive into Color\, Curves\, Contrast & Clarity & Texture. These changes will help make your images pop. Finally\, in week three\, we’ll discuss advanced editing\, including Sharpening\, HDR\, Pano stitching and more.\nEach week\, we will give an assignment and students will upload their edited photos prior to the next class. We will\, by and large\, be working with your images in the class. \nThis class is strongly recommended for anyone either looking to just get started with editing\, or to fine-tune your editing skills! \nAfter you register for this class\, you will receive a confirmation email that will include information about how to access the online class\, including an online ID code that you will need to get into the class. Make sure to save this information. We will also send a reminder email about 24 hours prior to the class time with that same information. \nLayout of the class\nThe class will begin promptly at the time listed. If for some reason you cannot attend one of the sessions\, don’t worry! They will be recorded and you will be able to watch them at your leisure! During each class\, you are welcome to type in questions in the Question box if you have specific questions as they are asked. We will do our best to answer those questions\, but if not\, feel free to ask them at the end. \n“You Are Being Recorded” (And Other Note Related Items)\nWe will be recording this class! The video will be available for download about 24-hours after the class for all attendees\, so don’t worry about taking unending notes. We will send this link attendees to download and rewatch at any time. In addition to this\, we will generally send out a PDF of the presentation (when applicable) and handouts on the topic. If handouts and PDFs are included\, we will send it out with the link for the video. SUMMARY:Online: Multi-Session Series- Taking Your Flash Off the Camera
DESCRIPTION:Below the course description (but before registration) will be a short explanation on how the class will run. \nJoin Hunt’s Photo Education for our Multi-Session Series. In our Multi-Session Series\, we will meet over the course of a number of weeks\, generally at the same time each week. They will be recorded and you will be able to watch them at your leisure!\nOur Multi-Session Series is designed to “keep the conversation going” by engaging with our attendees in a more personal way. In each of these classes\, we will have 10-15 attendees and provide direct feedback on images. We encourage photographers of all skill levels to consider these classes\, as they will build upon your experience and provide an excellent chance to work on your imagery! \nTaking Your Flash Off the Camera\nAny photographer that uses a flash will tell you: You’ll get the best results when you take it off the camera. But why? And what do you look for in your imagery? What camera and flash settings do we use? What kind of triggers do you need and how do you use them? How do you integrate your flash in an outdoor scene? How do you use it in a studio environment? How do we create dramatic lighting? How can we create soft lighting or contrasty lighting? What about diffusers and what’s a gobo?\nJoin Hunt’s Photo Education as we answer all of these questions and more through a series of presentations\, discussions\, critiques\, and assignments. ! Whether you’re a portrait photographer or a still life photographer\, this class will help you get a mastery of lighting with your flash off the camera. This is an excellent continuation of our Speedlights 101 course. \nEach week we will have a general presentation and discussion about a topic and will present an assignment. You can submit for the assignment or just watch our weekly critiques of others–it’s up to you! We will also supplement the class with additional instructional videos AND lighting diagrams (for test shots) which we will discuss in class. \nYou don’t need to be a professional to take this course\, or even know advanced concepts of Photoshop\, nor the inner workings of your flash. Photographers of all levels should apply\, as we will cascade the learning process. We do recommend having either Adobe Lightroom or Capture One editing software\, as well as Adobe Photoshop; if you plan to submit images\, you should have flash triggers; a reflector will also be helpful.\nPhotographers should have an understanding of exposure before taking this class. \nGet excited to use your flash and join us for a fun time! \nRegistering and what is needed\nAfter you register for this class\, you will receive a confirmation email that will include information about how to access the online class\, including an online ID code that you will need to get into the class. SUMMARY:Online: The Printed Vision- Printing on Fine Art Baryta Paper
DESCRIPTION:Presentation: Wednesday May 12th\, 7-8pm • Online! \nPrinted Image Review: Wednesday May 26th\, 7-9pm • Online! \nRecommended prerequisite: \nInstructor: Paul Nelson \nClass Size: Limited to 10 attendees \nBelow the course description (but before registration) will be a short explanation on how the class will run.\nAbout The Printed Vision Series\nThe printed image shows our successes and our faults at a much higher level of detail than the digital image. To become better photographers\, it helps to understand this by creating the printed image as a final product\, which is the purpose behind the Printed Vision Series.\nEach Printed Vision topic will meet for two sessions. In the first session\, we will discuss the topic and elaborate on editing with examples. This will include discussion of exposure\, dynamic range and color\, but also deeper points\, such as noise reduction\, image sharpening and grain. In between sessions 1 and 2\, attendees will independently process 1-2 images and submit them to the instructor for printing. We will print one of the two images leading into the second session and discuss some of the challenges we face in printing them.\nYou do not need to produce a new image for this class and can go into your archives to print\, but you are welcome to go out into the field and create something new based on the topic! \nThis Month’s Printed Vision Session: Printing on Fine Art Baryta Paper\nWhat is Baryta paper and why are we dedicating an entire session to it? Well\, if you don’t know Baryta\, you really should\, because not only does it offer one of the widest tonal ranges and display an incredible amount of detail and definition\, but almost everything looks awesome on it!\nIn this session\, we will discuss Baryta papers\, what to look for in the editing process\, and more.
In our Multi-Session Series\, we will meet over the course of a number of weeks\, generally at the same time each week. We encourage photographers of all skill levels to consider these classes\, as they will build upon your experience and provide an excellent chance to work on your imagery! \nSpeedlights 101 and Beyond!\nThis class is all about two things: Learning how to use the basics of your flash on the camera and how (and why) to take the flash off the camera.\nJoin Hunt’s Photo Educator Paul Nelson as we discuss how to take pictures using a speedlight\, and make them look great\, no matter what the situation. We will discuss photographing people\, but also photographing product and flashes work. We’ll talk all about the basics\, including modes\, settings\, and more!\nWhether you own a flash and have no idea how to use it\, you want to take great photos at functions and family events that are in low light\, or you just want to learn how to add a flash into your repertoire\, this course is for you! \nIn week one\, we will look at the basic camera and flash settings when using the flash on the camera\, including light positioning. In week two\, we will get a bit more creative by adding in diffusion and reflectors. We will also work to refine flash positioning and camera settings to maximize efficiency. In week three\, we will demonstrate taking the flash off-camera and show some of the benefits of doing that. In week four\, we will tie together the whole process\, including how to properly edit photos. \nEach week we will have a general presentation and discussion about a topic and will present an assignment. You can submit for the assignment or just watch our weekly critiques of others–it’s up to you! We will also supplement the class with additional instructional videos. \nYou don’t need to know the inner workings of your flash to take this class! Photographers of all levels should apply\, even those at a basic level\, as we will cascade the learning process. You should have a speedlight\, aka a flash that is detachable from your camera. Flash triggers can be helpful. A reflector may also be helpful. Note: This is not a class about the on-board flash on your camera. In general\, we never recommend using the on-board flash (unless you absolutely have to). \nPhotographers should have an understanding of their camera and general exposure before taking this class. \nRegistering and what is needed\nAfter you register for this class\, you will receive a confirmation email that will include information about how to access the online class\, including an online ID code that you will need to get into the class.
\nNo online classes should be shared and cannot be shared in a public environment\, including with camera clubs\nThe online content is the copyright of Hunt’s Photo Education and/or the Instructor. Please support our education team and instructors by not sharing this material!
Our instructional online presentation will be held on May 12th from 7-8pm and we will reconvene for our Printed Image Review on Tuesday May 26th from 7-9pm. You will have that time period in between to photograph and/or edit your images. In the end\, you will receive a 12×18″ print on fine art Baryta paper. (Please note: The cost of a 12×18 or 13×19 print on fine art paper is $35-$40; the cost of this class includes the cost of that print!) \nReceiving Your Print\nAfter the class\, your print can either be mailed to you or picked up at one of our Hunt’s Photo store locations. He will share descriptions and image examples highlighting various techniques for becoming a more creative bird photographer. \nAbout Cameron: Cameron Darnell is a 19-year-old wildlife photographer and birder specializing in bird photography. He lives outside of Washington\, D.C.\, and will be attending Williams College in the fall of 2021. He finds the creative aspect of bird photography thrilling and always strives for the most aesthetic image possible. Cameron has led bird walks in the Mid-Atlantic region\, and conducted bird photography workshops throughout the United States. Cameron’s images will be featured in the Spring 2021 issue of the Smithsonian Institute’s publication IMPACT. DESCRIPTION:Recommended prerequisite: \nBasic understanding of Aperture\, Shutter\, ISO & What Exposure is \nYou should have a speedlight\, aka a flash that is detachable from your camera \nFlash triggers are helpful\, but not a necessity \nInstructor: Paul Nelson \nClass Size: Limited to 10-15 attendees \nClass Level: Basic \nBelow the course description (but before registration) will be a short explanation on how the class will run. \nJoin Hunt’s Photo Education for a new Multi-Session Series session. In each of these classes\, we will have 10-15 attendees and provide direct feedback on images. We encourage photographers of all skill levels to consider these classes\, as they will build upon your experience and provide an excellent chance to work on your imagery! Make sure to save this information. We will also send a reminder email about 48 hours prior to the class time with that same information. \nLayout of the class\nThe class will begin promptly at the time listed. SUMMARY:Online: Printed Vision Series- Printing in Black & White
DESCRIPTION:Recommended prerequisite: \nInstructor: Paul Nelson \nBelow the course description (but before registration) will be a short explanation on how the class will run.\nAbout The Printed Vision Series\nThe printed image shows our successes and our faults at a much higher level of detail than the digital image. \nThis Month’s Printed Vision Session: Printing in Black & White\nBlack & White printing has an historic place in photography\, as for the past 175 years\, it has been the dominant method of printing and viewing photographs. There are many things to think about when we edit an image for printing in Black & White\, and this course will discuss those many items.\nIn this session\, we will discuss different paper options\, what to look for in the editing process\, and more. Our instructional online presentation will be held on June 8th from 7-8pm and we will reconvene for our Printed Image Review on June 24th from 7-9pm. SUMMARY:Online: Beyond the Basics- Understanding Manual Exposure
DESCRIPTION:Recommended prerequisite: \nBasic understanding of Aperture\, Shutter\, ISO & What Exposure is \nBeginner Photography understanding \nInstructor: Emily Hojnowski \nClass Level: Beyond Basic \nBelow the course description (but before registration) will be a short explanation on how the class will run. \nAfter learning “the basics” of digital photography\, become more comfortable in the world of digital photography by taking the next step.\nFor some photographers\, there is only the manual mode. But why is it important to shoot in the Manual mode? Are there reasons to use manual vs. Aperture priority and vice-versa? How can we maximize usability?\nWhile our Beginner class scratches the surface of these functions\, our Beyond the Basics class goes over in-depth:\n-Your Camera’s Light Meter and how it works\n-Use of Aperture Priority vs. Manual modes\n-Histograms\n-Photographing in RAW vs. Jpeg\nUnderstanding the full-functionality of your camera is a necessity to improving your flexibility when photographing in a variety of situations. This course is designed to help you feel more comfortable about how to change your camera’s settings in those situations. It is recommended as a follow-up to our Beginner Photography course. \nRegistering and what is needed\nAfter you register for this class\, you will receive a confirmation email that will include information about how to access the online class\, including an online ID code that you will need to get into the class. SUMMARY:Online: Personal Vision Series- Your Hometown in Black & White
DESCRIPTION:Recommended prerequisite: \nInstructor: Don Toothaker \nClass Size: Limited to 8 attendees \n \n \nBelow the course description (but before registration) will be a short explanation on how the class will run. \nJoin Hunt’s Photo Education as we help grow your knowledge\, creativity\, and artistic expression with our expanded Personal Vision Series.
SUMMARY:Online: Multi-Session Series- Speedlights 101 and Beyond!
In each of these classes\, we will have 10-15 attendees and provide direct feedback on images. We encourage photographers of all skill levels to consider these classes\, as they will build upon your experience and provide an excellent chance to work on your imagery! Make sure to save this information. We will also send a reminder email about 48 hours prior to the class time with that same information. \nLayout of the class\nThe class will begin promptly at the time listed. \nRegister here\n***Having trouble registering?
