SUMMARY:Online: Photoshop Mini-Sessions- An Intro to Combining Images in Landscape Editing
DESCRIPTION:Below the course description (but before registration) will be a short explanation on how the class will run. \nIn this Photoshop mini-session we will be learning some basic compositing skills to help us make our landscape images more exciting in Photoshop. The act of combining images in Photoshop\, or “Compositing”\, allows the photographer to have multiple exposures in one image\, a process that we cannot fully achieve in programs like Lightroom and Capture One. It is one of the key considerations to make when thinking about why it is important to use Photoshop!\nThis is a great beginner compositing class for someone who has never done compositing before or if you are an avid landscape photographer looking to try a different editing style. \nIf you are unfamiliar with the basics and workflow in Photoshop\, we recommend considering taking our Photoshop Mini-Session- Basics and Workflow! This course also covers on a good deal of topics that are further discussed in many of our Photoshop Mini-Sessions. For a full list of our PS Mini-Session offerings\, click here. \nRegistering and what is needed\nAfter you register for this class\, you will receive a confirmation email that will include information about how to access the online class\, including an online ID code that you will need to get into the class. Make sure to save this information. We will also send a reminder email about 48 hours prior to the class time with that same information. \nLayout of the class\nThe class will begin promptly at the time listed. The majority of the class–roughly 1 hour– will be a presentation on the topic\, followed by a short Q&A. During the class\, you are welcome to type in questions in the Chat box if you have specific questions as they are asked. We will do our best to answer those questions\, but if not\, feel free to ask them at the end. \n“You Are Being Recorded” (And Other Note Related Items)\nWe will be recording this class! The video will be available for download about 24-hours after the class for all attendees\, so don’t worry about taking unending notes. We will send this link attendees to download and rewatch at any time. In addition to this\, we will generally send out a PDF of the presentation (when applicable) and handouts on the topic. If handouts and PDFs are included\, we will send it out with the link for the video. \nCan’t attend the class? \nIf you can’t attend the class but still want to download the video\, no problem: Just sign up for the class! You don’t need to attend and we will send the video and PDF link the next day! \nWant to get this class after it’s been run?\nIf you want to purchase this or any other of the classes we have done\, you can certainly do so. Just send us an email at classes@huntsphoto.com and we can send you the invoice. (We prefer having folks in our classes\, but this option is available as well if you want to see it!) \n \nPlease read Hunt’s Terms & Conditions before signing up.

SUMMARY:Online: Macro 101
DESCRIPTION:In response to COVID-19 and recommendations by the CDC of social distancing\, Hunt’s Photo Education is presenting our new series of online classes! (Hey! We wanted to do it anyway\, this just sped up the process!) These courses will be shorter (about 1 hour)\, online versions of many classes that we currently offer\, plus a few new ones\, and include Q&A at the end.\nBelow the course description (but before registration) will be a short explanation on how the class will run. \n\nToo often we feel that our photography comes to a halt during inclement weather. However\, there is ample opportunity to make use of our creativity while staying indoors. Many household items– cut flowers\, books\, antiques\, jewelry\, and glassware– all make for wonderful subjects while using natural window light. Every table in your house can become a landscape of opportunity with some imagination and creativity. \nIn this online class\, we will cover exposure\, composition\, how to use macro lenses and extension tubes\, how to set up lighting\, how to use light modifiers and more! \nRegistering and what is needed\nAfter you register for this class\, you will receive a confirmation email that you have signed up. About 24 hours prior to the class time\, we will send out an email with the weblink for you to follow as well as information on how to access the class online. (It’s pretty easy\, but we’ll walk you through it in a quick online video!) \nLayout of the class\nThe class will begin promptly at the time listed. The majority of the class–roughly 1 hour– will be a presentation on the topic\, followed by a short Q&A. SUMMARY:Online: Beyond the Basics- Understanding Manual Exposure
DESCRIPTION:Below the course description (but before registration) will be a short explanation on how the class will run. \nAfter learning “the basics” of digital photography\, become more comfortable in the world of digital photography by taking the next step.\nFor some photographers\, there is only the manual mode. But why is it important to shoot in the Manual mode? Are there reasons to use manual vs. Aperture priority and vice-versa? How can we maximize usability?\nWhile our Beginner class scratches the surface of these functions\, our Beyond the Basics class goes over in-depth:\n-Your Camera’s Light Meter and how it works\n-Use of Aperture Priority vs. Manual modes\n-Histograms\n-Photographing in RAW vs. Jpeg\nUnderstanding the full-functionality of your camera is a necessity to improving your flexibility when photographing in a variety of situations. This course is designed to help you feel more comfortable about how to change your camera’s settings in those situations. It is recommended as a follow-up to our Beginner Photography course. SUMMARY:Online: Image Review/Critique- Macro/Close-Up
DESCRIPTION:Below the course description (but before registration) will be a short explanation on how the class will run. \nThere is so much to think about in photography– from settings and composition to editing and post processing and so much more– that it can be easy to get lost within your images. Join Hunt’s Photo Education for a chance to discuss one of your images in a review and critique session\, where we will discuss many of these topics and how they work in your image. Our Hunt’s Photo Education Team firmly believes that presenting personal work and observing peer work is paramount to the growth and development of your photographic vision. \nThis Week’s Topic\nFor this week’s topic\, all attendees will submit a macro or close-up image. Macro photography can seem deceptively simply\, but it is far more challenging than meets the eye. Focus is paramount\, camera settings can vary greatly\, and\, as always\, great composition is essential. In this image review/critique\, we will focus (pun intended) on looking closer (pun also intended) at macro images with a refined eye. You are welcome to edit this image or leave it unedited. However\, we ask that you export the image as a DNG\, or save the RAW file with a XMP sidecar file so that we can reedit the image\, if need be. (If you’re unsure what a DNG file is\, watch this short video about exporting as DNG. If you cannot save the file in either formats\, please submit an edited and unedited version so we can reedit\, if need be.)\nWe encourage photographers of all levels to consider this course\, as it is as valuable to seasoned professional as it is to a beginner! \nThis class will be a small group of up to 10-15 attendees. Upon registering\, you will receive a confirmation email that will include a link in order to upload images to us for the image review. We will also send out a reminder email a few days prior. Make sure to leave yourself enough time to upload your photo! \nJoin us for this exciting opportunity to share your photographic work with the community! \nRegarding uploading of images\nFor this critique\, we ask that you export a DNG from Lightroom/Capture One or save as the original RAW with the XMP sidecar file. DNG is a RAW format that also embeds in all the changes you have made previously to the image! Since it’s RAW\, we can still make “lossless” changes to the DNG file\, so that’s very helpful. We’ve made a short video about how to do it that you can watch here: https://www.dropbox.com/s/ll87ah4kapx0zul/exporting-to-dng.mp4?dl=0 \nRegistering and what is needed\nAfter you register for this class\, you will receive a confirmation email that will include information about how to access the online class\, including an online ID code that you will need to get into the class. Make sure to save this information. We will also send a reminder email about 48 hours prior to the class time with that same information. \nLayout of the class\nOur course layout is simple. This course will last about 2 hours\, depending on quantity of attendees. During that time\, all attendees will be muted. When we critique your image\, we will unmute you\, so please have a working microphone on your computer/tablet.\nDuring the class\, you are welcome to type in questions in the Chat box if you have specific questions as they are asked.

While many filters from the days of film are no longer relevant\, there are many effects that are unachievable without the use of filters\, even in the modern digital age! And these effects produce some of the most stunning results!\nDuring this seminar class\, we will discuss the different types of filters available for creative photography. We will also go over when and why you should use them and review how to use them. We will cover polarizing filters\, neutral density filters\, soft and hard-edge graduated filters\, close-up filters and more! We will demonstrate with these varieties of filters\, with ND and Polarizing filters courtesy of Benro filters. \nRegistering and what is needed\nAfter you register for this class\, you will receive a confirmation email that you have signed up. SUMMARY:Online: Multi-Session Series- Food Photography
DESCRIPTION:Below the course description (but before registration) will be a short explanation on how the class will run. \nJoin Hunt’s Photo Education for our new Multi-Session Series. In our Multi-Session Series\, we will meet over the course of a number of weeks\, generally at the same time each week. During that time\, we will discuss a specific element of a topic and end the session by giving a photographic assignment. That assignment will be due for completion before the next class meeting\, and we will review those images at the start of the next session. If for some reason you cannot attend one of the sessions\, don’t worry! They will be recorded and you will be able to watch them at your leisure!\nOur Multi-Session Series is designed to “keep the conversation going” by engaging with our attendees in a more personal way. In each of these classes\, we will have 10-15 attendees and provide direct feedback on images. We encourage photographers of all skill levels to consider these classes\, as they will build upon your experience and provide an excellent chance to work on your imagery! \nFood Photography\nJoin Hunt’s Photo Education as we discuss everything you need to get started with food photography including gear\, props\, and shooting techniques in our new Multi-Session Series!\nFor this course\, we’ll start with composition in the first week\, discussing the core compositional principles\, choosing the right food and mood for a shoot\, and which angle is best for your subject.\nIn week two\, we’ll move past natural light and begin controlling and shaping artificial light. We’ll discuss size\, quality\, and direction of light as well as the best light modifiers to achieve that natural light look even at night! Color is a key element of food photography and we’ll cover everything from color psychology to perfecting white balance.\nBy the third week\, we’ll be working on styling our scenes with various props\, backgrounds\, and ingredients. Emily will show you the how and the why as we work through advanced compositional techniques. We’ll talk gear and how you don’t need to spend a fortune or have a lot of space to be a successful food photographer.\nIn our final week\, we’ll tie everything together and sharpen each student’s individual food style. We’ll discuss how to bring out the best of our food while telling a story and examine how foods can evoke emotional responses from our viewers.\nEach week you’ll have a new assignment that will build a diverse portfolio of food photography. Along the way\, you’ll be able to ask Emily questions and receive weekly individual\, personalized critiques and feedbacks from your assignment images. Emily will also be giving you editing tutorials using Adobe Lightroom Classic so we can put the final touches on our images. \nPhotographers should have an understanding of exposure before taking this class. \nWeek 1: Composition\nWeek 2: Light & Color\nWeek 3: Styling\nWeek 4: Storytelling \nRegistering and what is needed\nAfter you register for this class\, you will receive a confirmation email that will include information about how to access the online class\, including an online ID code that you will need to get into the class. Make sure to save this information. We will also send a reminder email about 48 hours prior to the class time with that same information. \nLayout of the class\nThe class will begin promptly at the time listed. If for some reason you cannot attend one of the sessions\, don’t worry! They will be recorded and you will be able to watch them at your leisure! During each class\, you are welcome to type in questions in the Question box if you have specific questions as they are asked. SUMMARY:Online: Editing Essentials in Lightroom
\nYou’ve taken a fantastic image and you understand the basics of editing in Adobe Lightroom. So what’s the problem? Have we made it good enough? Have we made the right steps along the way? How can we make it better? This class is all about editing one of your images.\nLeading up to this class\, we will ask for 2-3 images (RAW\, if possible) from you in order to edit ONE of them in class. We will do this with each of our 6-8 attendees and in the end\, we will have discussed a whole slew of topics that will (hopefully) make you a better editor!\nWe are constantly asked: Who should take this class? What if you’re new to Lightroom? Yes- because you’ll see the possibilities in the program! What if you don’t use Lightroom? Sure! We will be using Lightroom\, but the concepts are very similar throughout other similar programs. What if you just use a cell phone or shoot only in JPEG? I don’t see why not! Just because you shoot in JPEG or with a cell phone doesn’t mean you can’t edit your photos. This is a great all-encompassing class\, working out challenges for all levels!\nThis is a class that you can take as many times as you’d like. Since you’re constantly working with new images\, you’re always working out new challenges! \nRegistering and what is needed\nAfter you register for this class\, you will receive a confirmation email that you have signed up. About 48 hours prior to the class time\, we will send out an email with the weblink for you to follow as well as information on how to access the class online. (It’s pretty easy\, but we’ll walk you through it in a quick online video!)\nAt that time\, we will also send you a link to upload 2-3 images. \n \nPlease read Hunt’s Terms & Conditions before signing up.

DESCRIPTION:In response to COVID-19 and recommendations by the CDC of social distancing\, Hunt’s Photo Education is presenting our new series of online classes! (Hey! These courses will be shorter (about 1 hour)\, online versions of many classes that we currently offer\, plus a few new ones\, and include Q&A at the end.\nBelow the course description (but before registration) will be a short explanation on how the class will run. \nThe time has come to tame digital printing! With the low price of excellent quality digital printers\, what was once an elite craft is now much more manageable for the average photographer. This course briefly covers the basics questions of printing\, including editing suggestions\, color management tools and settings\, paper styles and finishes\, printing recommendations\, and troubleshooting on how to avoid those nasty pitfalls that can occur along the way. Whether you use Canon\, Epson or HP\, the concepts in this course remain the same.\nThis class also focuses on printing using Lightroom specifically. Being able to print from Lightroom allows you to complete all of your tasks specifically in one rather than multiple programs. Even if you do not own or use Lightroom\, the concepts within this class are fairly global and these concepts can be translated to other programs. We will also discuss printing using these other programs. \nRegistering and what is needed\nAfter you register for this class\, you will receive a confirmation email that you have signed up. SUMMARY:Online: Image Review/Critique- Edited Portraits
\nThis Week’s Topic\nFor this week’s topic\, all attendees will submit an Edited Portrait. There are a number of moving parts to portraits. And often when we take portraits\, we tell ourselves\, “Don’t worry- we’ll fix it in post!”\nWell\, in this image review/critique\, we’ll look specifically at edited portraits. So\, what kind of portrait do we want? Well\, they can be really heavily edited photos\, or photos that have just been tweeked and fine-tuned! We’ll be looking at them from a few perspectives: How was the photo processed for exposure\, color\, and contrast? Was there additional processing that was needed\, or was the photo “overbaked”?\nFor this critique\, we ask that you export the image as a DNG\, or save the RAW file with a XMP sidecar file so that we can reedit the image\, if need be. (If you’re unsure what a DNG file is\, watch this short video about exporting as DNG. If you cannot save the file in either formats\, please submit an edited and unedited version so we can reedit\, if need be.) We can look at these images in either Lightroom\, Capture One\, or Adobe Photoshop.\nWe encourage photographers of all levels to consider this course\, as it is as valuable to seasoned professional as it is to a beginner! Join us for this exciting opportunity to share your photographic work with the community! \nThis class will be a small group of up to 10-15 attendees. Upon registering\, you will receive a confirmation email that will include a link in order to upload images to us for the image review. We will also send out a reminder email a few days prior. Make sure to leave yourself enough time to upload your photo! During that time\, we will unmute all attendees and have an open discussion\, so please have a working microphone on your computer/tablet.

If for some reason you cannot attend one of the sessions\, don’t worry! They will be recorded and you will be able to watch them at your leisure!\nOur Multi-Session Series is designed to “keep the conversation going” by engaging with our attendees in a more personal way. SUMMARY:Online: Image Review/Critique- Birding
\nThis Week’s Topic\nFor this week’s topic\, all attendees will submit a birding image. Birds\, birds in flight\, birding: It’s perhaps the apex of photographic technique and skill. It requires so much from the photographer\, including gear\, time\, and patience. It also requires a mastery of focus\, patience\, exposure\, patience\, composition\, and more. (Did we mention patience?) In this image review/critique\, we will focus (pun intended) on birding images\, with an emphasis on all of these elements. If you cannot save the file in either formats\, please submit an edited and unedited version so we can reedit\, if need be.)\nWe encourage photographers of all levels to consider this course\, as it is as valuable to seasoned photographer as it is to a beginner! We will also send a reminder email about 24 hours prior to the class time with that same information.
