SUMMARY:Online: Image Review/Critique- Edited RAW
DESCRIPTION:Wednesday May 13th\, 7-8:30pm • Online! \nPrerequisite: We will be collecting an EDITED RAW image from each attendee for each critique session \nInstructor: Don Toothaker \nClass Size: Limited to 10-15 attendees/session \nBelow the course description (but before registration) will be a short explanation on how the class will run. \nThere is so much to think about in photography– from settings and composition to editing and post processing and so much more– that it can be easy to get lost within your images. Join Hunt’s Photo Education for a chance to discuss one of your images in a review and critique session\, where we will discuss many of these topics and how they work in your image. Our Hunt’s Photo Education Team firmly believes that presenting personal work and observing peer work is paramount to the growth and development of your photographic vision. \nThis Week’s Topic\nFor this week’s topic\, all attendees will submit an edited RAW image. This can either be an image that you have edited that you feel confident in or one in which you have edited and are looking to get a second opinion. This is a great chance to look deeper into your images\, as we will really be looking into the specifics of what to set in the editing process and why. We encourage photographers of all levels to consider this course\, as it is as valuable to seasoned professional as it is to a beginner! \nThis class will be a small group of up to 10-15 attendees. Upon registering\, you will receive a confirmation email that will include a link in order to upload images to us for the image review. We will also send out a reminder email a few days prior. Make sure to leave yourself enough time to upload your photo! \nRegarding uploading of images\nFor this critique\, we ask that you export a DNG from Lightroom or Capture One\, or save as the original RAW with the XMP sidecar file. DNG is a RAW format that also embeds in all the changes you have made previously to the image and can be exported from Lightroom or Capture One. Since it’s RAW\, we can still make “lossless” changes to the DNG file\, so that’s very helpful. We’ve made a short video about how to do it that you can watch here: https://www.dropbox.com/s/ll87ah4kapx0zul/exporting-to-dng.mp4?dl=0 \nDuring the critique\, all attendees will be muted. When we critique your image\, we will unmute you\, so please have a working microphone on your computer/tablet. \nJoin us for this exciting opportunity to share your photographic work with the community! \nRegistering and what is needed\nAfter you register for this class\, you will receive a confirmation email that will include information about how to access the online class\, including an online ID code that you will need to get into the class. Make sure to save this information. We will also send a reminder email about 48 hours prior to the class time with that same information. \nLayout of the class\nOur course layout is simple. This course will last about 90 minutes. During that time\, all attendees will be muted. When we critique your image\, we will unmute you\, so please have a working microphone on your computer/tablet.\n During the class\, you are welcome to type in questions in the Chat box if you have specific questions as they are asked. We will do our best to answer those questions\, but if not\, feel free to ask them at the end. \n“You Are Being Recorded” (And Other Note Related Items)\nWe will be recording this class! The video will be available for download about 24-hours after the class for all attendees\, so don’t worry about taking unending notes. We will send this link attendees to download and rewatch at any time. In addition to this\, we will generally send out a PDF of the presentation (when applicable) and handouts on the topic. If handouts and PDFs are included\, we will send it out with the link for the video. \nCan’t attend the class? \nIf you can’t attend the class but still want to download the video\, no problem: Just sign up for the class! You don’t need to attend and we will send the video and PDF link the next day! \nWant to get this class after it’s been run?\nIf you want to purchase this or any other of the classes we have done\, you can certainly do so. Just send us an email at classes@huntsphoto.com and we can send you the invoice. (We prefer having folks in our classes\, but this option is available as well if you want to see it!) \n \nPlease read Hunt’s Terms & Conditions before signing up.

DESCRIPTION:Below the course description (but before registration) will be a short explanation on how the class will run. \nThis class will focus on a lesser known feature of Lightroom Classic\, High Dynamic Range photo merging. Sometimes a scene has too broad a range to capture in one shot: either the highlights are overexposed or the shadows are too dark and lose detail. This class will explain the technique of how to capture the bright & dark parts of the scene and then how to process the results in Lightroom Classic resulting in a fantastic photo! \nRegistering and what is needed\nAfter you register for this class\, you will receive a confirmation email that will include information about how to access the online class\, including an online ID code that you will need to get into the class. SUMMARY:Online: Curves and Color in Lightroom
DESCRIPTION:Below the course description (but before registration) will be a short explanation on how the class will run. \nThere is a world of tones and colors available to you in Adobe Lightroom Classic\, but how do you access it and make it your own?\nJoin Hunt’s Photo Education for a trip into some of the lesser-known panels in Adobe Lightroom Classic\, as we delve into the “Curves” and “HSL” Panels… and more! In this class\, we will take a strong look at color options in the HSL Panel (that’s Hue-Saturation-Luminance) and how to properly manipulate them. We’ll delve into the Curves Panel to show how to get the most out of the exposure and tonal range of your image by using curves (and what the “curve” actually is!). And we’ll show a little bit of how to get the most out of images by using not just global adjustments\, but also local adjustments.\nThis class is an excellent opportunity to fine-tune color and tone adjustments! If your images lack a punch\, this is a great opportunity to see how to obtain it! \nRegistering and what is needed\nAfter you register for this class\, you will receive a confirmation email that will include information about how to access the online class\, including an online ID code that you will need to get into the class. SUMMARY:Online: Special Guest Series- Introduction to Wedding Photography- The Basics & The Business\, with Bob Fletcher
DESCRIPTION:Below the course description (but before registration) will be a short explanation on how the class will run. \nWedding Photography is a tough business. Wedding photographers must have a mastery of their craft in order to properly photograph a wedding\, because it (hopefully) only happens once! They must be able to pose and light their subjects\, and edit\, process\, and deliver the images in a somewhat timely manner. In addition to this\, they also need to be able to handle the business-end of the job\, including how to properly price their services (and get hired). \nJoin Hunt’s Photo Education as we welcome photographer Bob Fletcher. In this introduction\, Bob will discuss much of “the basics and the business” of wedding photography\, including:\n•Today’s wedding market \n•Photographing the wedding\n•Posing & Lighting\n•Deliver of Images\n•Follow Up\n•Photographing weddings for Family & Friends\n•How to make money at weddings\n•Pricing your work – based on experience and your marketplace\n•Training – How do I learn to photograph weddings\n•Equipment – What minimum equipment do I need\n•Paperwork – Contracts\, etc. \nAbout Bob Fletcher\nI started photographing weddings professionally in January 1970. My early years were spent photographing weddings for a studio in Orange County\, California shooting with medium format Hasselblad cameras. I eventually opened my own studio in Corona\, California and my wedding photography took me to many places around the globe– Jamaica\, Mexico\, Italy\, Switzerland\, Alaska\, Canada\, and many\, many states within the USA. Our studio eventually became the “Preferred Wedding Photographer” for Disneyland Anaheim and the Disney Hotel\, amongst many other wedding venues.\nIn 1996 I started using the Kodak/Canon DCS hybrid digital cameras and was hooked on digital photography immediately. In 1999 I started working for Canon USA as a “stringer”. That relationship continues to this day.\nI have always mentored beginning photographers and taught them the art and business of photography so they could also make a living from something that they loved to do.\nAfter photographing over 3\,250 weddings over a 43-year career in weddings\, I chose to spend more time teaching photography classes and leading workshops. I currently spend most of my time working for Canon USA\, teaching and leading workshops but I still like to photograph family and friends weddings on occasion.\nIt is a joy to share with others the love that I have for the art of photography and I thank you for being a part of that. \nPlease note: This class is an introduction to wedding photography. There are many facets to it\, too numerous to fit into an introductory class. We plan to continue these classes as a series\, delving more deeply into many of these topics. We encourage this class as an introduction. \nRegistering and what is needed\nAfter you register for this class\, you will receive a confirmation email that will include information about how to access the online class\, including an online ID code that you will need to get into the class. Make sure to save this information. We will also send a reminder email about 48 hours prior to the class time with that same information. \nLayout of the class\nThe class will begin promptly at the time listed. The majority of the class–around 90 minutes to 2 hours– will be a presentation on the topic\, followed by a short Q&A. During the class\, you are welcome to type in questions in the Chat box if you have specific questions as they are asked. You don’t need to attend and we will send the video link the next day!

\nIn this Photoshop mini-session we will be focusing on the automated batch-processing tools available in Photoshop. An “action” in Photoshop is a process that will allow you to do the same processes multiple times. For example\, if we have a 3-4 step process that we use to soften skin\, we minimize the time it takes to do it by creating an “Action”!\nWe’re going to look at how we can create and record our own Photoshop actions to save our favorite editing styles and apply them to multiple images. This is a great feature to learn about if you want to be quick with your editing and you want to save as much time as possible when editing a lot of photos. \nIf you are unfamiliar with the basics and workflow in Photoshop\, we recommend considering taking our Photoshop Mini-Session- Basics and Workflow! The majority of the class–roughly 1 hour– will be a presentation on the topic\, followed by a short Q&A. During the class\, you are welcome to type in questions in the Chat box if you have specific questions as they are asked.

SUMMARY:Online: Image Review/Critique- Black & White
DESCRIPTION:Below the course description (but before registration) will be a short explanation on how the class will run. \nThis Week’s Topic\nFor this week’s topic\, all attendees will submit an edited image in black & white. This can either be an image that you have edited that you feel confident in or one in which you have edited and are looking to get a second opinion. We ask that you export the image as a DNG\, or save the RAW file with a XMP sidecar file so that we can reedit the image\, if need be. (If you’re unsure what a DNG file is\, watch this short video about exporting as DNG. If you cannot save the file in either formats\, please submit an edited and unedited version so we can reedit\, if need be.)\nThis is a great chance to look deeper into your images\, as we will really be looking into the specifics of what to set in the editing process and why. \nRegarding uploading of images\nFor this critique\, we ask that you export a DNG from Lightroom/Capture One or save as the original RAW with the XMP sidecar file. DNG is a RAW format that also embeds in all the changes you have made previously to the image! Since it’s RAW\, we can still make “lossless” changes to the DNG file\, so that’s very helpful. We’ve made a short video about how to do it that you can watch here: https://www.dropbox.com/s/ll87ah4kapx0zul/exporting-to-dng.mp4?dl=0 \nJoin us for this exciting opportunity to share your photographic work with the community! This course will last about 2 hours\, depending on quantity of attendees. During that time\, all attendees will be muted. When we critique your image\, we will unmute you\, so please have a working microphone on your computer/tablet.\nDuring the class\, you are welcome to type in questions in the Chat box if you have specific questions as they are asked. SUMMARY:Online: Editing Essentials in Lightroom
DESCRIPTION:In response to COVID-19 and recommendations by the CDC of social distancing\, Hunt’s Photo Education is presenting our new series of online classes! (Hey! We wanted to do it anyway\, this just sped up the process!) These courses will be shorter (about 1 hour)\, online versions of many classes that we currently offer\, plus a few new ones\, and include Q&A at the end.\nBelow the course description (but before registration) will be a short explanation on how the class will run. \nYou’ve taken a fantastic image and you understand the basics of editing in Adobe Lightroom. So what’s the problem? Have we made it good enough? Have we made the right steps along the way? How can we make it better? This class is all about editing one of your images.\nLeading up to this class\, we will ask for 2-3 images (RAW\, if possible) from you in order to edit ONE of them in class. We will do this with each of our 6-8 attendees and in the end\, we will have discussed a whole slew of topics that will (hopefully) make you a better editor!\nWe are constantly asked: Who should take this class? What if you’re new to Lightroom? Yes- because you’ll see the possibilities in the program! What if you don’t use Lightroom? Sure! We will be using Lightroom\, but the concepts are very similar throughout other similar programs. What if you just use a cell phone or shoot only in JPEG? I don’t see why not! Just because you shoot in JPEG or with a cell phone doesn’t mean you can’t edit your photos. This is a great all-encompassing class\, working out challenges for all levels!\nThis is a class that you can take as many times as you’d like. Since you’re constantly working with new images\, you’re always working out new challenges! \nRegistering and what is needed\nAfter you register for this class\, you will receive a confirmation email that you have signed up. About 48 hours prior to the class time\, we will send out an email with the weblink for you to follow as well as information on how to access the class online. (It’s pretty easy\, but we’ll walk you through it in a quick online video!)\nAt that time\, we will also send you a link to upload 2-3 images. \nLayout of the class\nThe class will begin promptly at the time listed. SUMMARY:Online: Anatomy of an Image
DESCRIPTION:Below the course description (but before registration) will be a short explanation on how the class will run. \nImagine photographing a night scene. All of your settings have been carefully prepared to maximize quality and your camera has been immaculately composed. Suddenly\, snow begins to fall\, light at first\, but begins to pick up. This is the cherry on top! What a great addition to your image! Unfortunately\, the next picture you take doesn’t reflect the current scene: The snow cannot be seen! Thinking in the moment\, you’re able to make a few basic adjustments and get the shot you’re looking for…\n“What made you decide do it that way?” This question is simple enough\, but photography is complex and often doesn’t give us the most straightforward answer. This is a question that we receive often\, and it is usually one presented on Photo Walks and Workshops. We won’t be happy with the results we’re getting (or want a different result)\, so we change course. “What made you decide to do it that way?”\nIn Anatomy of an Image\, we will look at and discuss the thought process on select images from vision\, to execution\, to editing. In addition to images\, we will also talk through this process in a live shoot during the presentation to show how to work through issues we may experience in the field. This is a course that discusses the thought process and theory of photography by discussing the many elements that we can encounter. Join us for a fun evening! \nRegistering and what is needed\nAfter you register for this class\, you will receive a confirmation email that will include information about how to access the online class\, including an online ID code that you will need to get into the class. Make sure to save this information. SUMMARY:Online: Portraits Outside Using Natural Light and Flash!
DESCRIPTION:Below the course description (but before registration) will be a short explanation on how the class will run. \nEveryone loves taking portraits in natural light\, especially when the circumstances are just right\, the overcast clouds have moved in\, the temperature is in the mid-70s\, all the hair and make-up has been done\, and the wild horses are galloping in the distance.\nOf course\, we’re being facetious- sometimes it can be that easy\, but not always. Sometimes\, it’s a great idea to use natural light for outdoor portraits. Sometimes\, we can find the perfect scenario lighting conditions\, but what if we can’t? Or what if we want to get a shot some place where the light is different?\nJoin Hunt’s Photo Educator Paul Nelson as we discuss photographing portraits outdoors using both natural light and flash. We’ll begin by discussing what optimal conditions are for natural light portraits\, then add in the element of flash and when to use it\, and finish by specifically demonstrating how to set up your camera and flash\, off-camera! We’ll also discuss:\n•Diffusers and light modifiers\n•Where to place your lights (and your subject)\n•Different trigger options\n•Light meters\n•How to light for a variety of scenes \nIf you feel intimidated by using flash outdoors\, join us for a lot of fun! \nRegistering and what is needed\nAfter you register for this class\, you will receive a confirmation email that will include information about how to access the online class\, including an online ID code that you will need to get into the class. SUMMARY:Online: Image Review/Critique- Intentional Camera Movement
DESCRIPTION:Below the course description (but before registration) will be a short explanation on how the class will run. \nThis Week’s Topic\nFor this week’s topic\, all attendees will submit an image with Intentional Camera Movement. Intentional Camera Movement is moving your camera DURING your picture’s exposure. Moving your camera DURING the exposure is counterintuitive\, but the abstract results can be breathtaking. We recently had a presentation on Intentional Camera Movement which produced so many questions\, observations\, and thoughts about what works and what doesn’t that we decided an image critique would be a wonderful way of talking about what works! You are welcome to edit this image or leave it unedited. However\, we ask that you export the image as a DNG\, or save the RAW file with a XMP sidecar file so that we can reedit the image\, if need be. (If you’re unsure what a DNG file is\, watch this short video about exporting as DNG. If you cannot save the file in either formats\, please submit an edited and unedited version so we can reedit\, if need be.)\nWe encourage photographers of all levels to consider this course\, as it is as valuable to seasoned professional as it is to a beginner! \nThis class will be a small group of up to 10-15 attendees. Upon registering\, you will receive a confirmation email that will include a link in order to upload images to us for the image review. We will also send out a reminder email a few days prior. Make sure to leave yourself enough time to upload your photo!
