SUMMARY:Lighting with Speedlights: Pop-Up Portraits- Hunt's Photo\, Melrose
DESCRIPTION:What is a pop-up portrait? It’s a portrait that you create anywhere: You just setup up your flash and create a simple\, beautiful portrait!\nBut is it that simple? Is there an easy way to create beautiful portraits on the spot in any location using your flash? Absolutely! Using your flash off the camera doesn’t need to be that difficult. With a little bit of know-how\, you can create a little pop-up portrait anywhere and make it a beautifully sharp and well-lit portrait!\nOur Pop-Up Portraits Session does just that by discussing\, demonstrating\, and then practicing with models how to set up a great portrait anywhere using the simplest of tools and methods. In this workshop\, we will specifically be working with speedlights/flash off the camera using triggers.\nMost importantly\, attendees will be guiding the setup (and take down) of all the gear. Attendees are also encouraged to bring their own gear\, but we will begin with gear that anyone can use\, including: \n-A Variety of brands of Speedlights\n-Phottix & Pocket Wizard Triggers\n-Sekonic Lightmeters\n-Tethering capabilities for applicable cameras\n-Westcott & Phottix Softboxes\n-Rogue Flashbender products \nWhat to bring:\n-Camera with fully charged battery\n-Memory cards\n-For lenses\, consider bringing lenses between 50mm and 100mm. Prime lenses with low apertures are a great option\, but zoom lenses that fit this range will also work fine.\n-You are welcome to bring your own speedlights and triggers\, but we will begin the day using generic options. \nLayout of the day: \n9am- Introductions\, brief presentation/discussion on exposure & speedlights\, camera setup\n10am- Demoing shooting\n11am-2pm- Photographing with models. We will have about 3 hours in three setups.\n2-3pm- Review of images & takeaways from the day

SUMMARY:Hunt's Photo Adventure: Cuba- Real & Raw
DESCRIPTION:Simply put\, Cuba is like no other place on earth. The spellbinding history from the early Carribean-Spanish explorers to the mid- twentieth century reads like a legendary novel. Life for the Cuban people changed dramatically in the 1960’s. It’s as if the country was placed in a time capsule for fifty years and suddenly emerged\, opening the doors to all who wish to explore. One can certainly feel the complexities of Cuba’s history and the strength of those who call it their home. The music makes you dance and the arts convey the struggles and triumphs. The ranchers are as rugged as the untouched land and the cigars are worth the trip alone. Cuba is absolutely fascinating. \nHunt’s Photo and Don Toothaker want to welcome guest instructor Laura L. Gingerich to this photography workshop. We plan to challenge you to slow down\, think\, observe\, anticipate and feel each and every shot. Our days will be full of photographic opportunities\, instruction and discussion as we experience a very unique look into the heart and soul of Cuba. \nPlease note that this workshop is being coordinated by our travel agency. Because of this\, please note that registration and payment are handled by the agency. Registration and more detailed itinerary information can be found here.

SUMMARY:Advanced Printing Techniques- Printing in Adobe Lightroom\, Hunt's Photo\, Melrose
DESCRIPTION:For ages\, darkroom printing was an art form that was destined only for those that had a darkroom. Now they practically give digital printers away\, and what darkroom techniques were sequestered to your basement can now be duplicated in a corner office.\nBut Digital Printing\, while simple in concept\, has a myriad number of curiosities and questions associated with it. Among the issues printers run into are color correction\, proper exposure\, ability to utilize multiple papers\, understanding how to edit for print\, how to print in black and white\, and why and when to use certain tools. In this course\, we will answer these questions\, as well as refer back to some of the more basic elements of digital printing\, including ICC profiles\, monitor calibration\, and more!\nThis class is for anyone that has set up their printer and understands some of the basic concept of printing\, but is having issues producing consistent results\, or wants to go further in understanding how to achieve the best printing results! We love printing\, and we want to share that love of printing with you! You do not need to own a printer\, but it helps. We recommend Canon or Epson. \nWhile the time is limited\, we invite you to bring one or two potential images with you (on a memory card or thumb drive) that may be used in the class for demonstration. RAW files are recommended. \nFor more basic techniques in printing\, our Intro to Digital Printing course is recommended. \nTo register in Melrose…

SUMMARY:Adding Textures to Photos in Photoshop
DESCRIPTION:Why use Photoshop? One of the most fun and creative ways to utilize Adobe Photoshop (as opposed to many other editing programs\, including Lightroom) is Photoshop’s ability to use multiple layers. Adding textures to photographs or areas of a photograph are an excellent opportunity to add character\, depth\, and a uniqueness to an image!\nIn this class\, we will demonstrate and work with images in a step-by-step process to take a photo from Lightroom (or anywhere on your computer)\, import into Photoshop\, add a texture\, and then save the file. We will be providing some textures that we have created for each student and will also provide images for you to practice on. This class will specifically cover…\n•Layers\n•Masking\n•Blend modes \nThe tools we utilize here don’t need to end with just textures. The concepts we will cover in the class can also be applied to other areas–changing the opacity of a layer or image\, creating masks which allow you to change one specific area of a photo\, and more. If you have an interest in learning more about Photoshop\, this is an excellent opportunity! \nNo previous Photoshop knowledge is required\, but we recommend bringing a laptop for this class with Adobe Photoshop CC installed. (Adobe Lightroom Classic CC is helpful if you use Lightroom.) \n \nPlease read Hunt’s Terms & Conditions before signing up.

SUMMARY:Capture to Edit & Print: Macro in Black & White- Hunt's Photo\, Melrose
DESCRIPTION:Join Hunt’s Photo Education as we workshop how to “see”\, effectively compose and create macro images\, and finally edit in black & white. \nCapture to Edit & Print is an intermediate workshop that focuses not only on photography\, but also on the process of editing\, this time specifically in black & white\, and printing. We will begin by presenting some of things that we look for in the process of developing a black & white composition\, including such varied aspects from camera settings to choice of subject. We will spend a good deal of time creating and photographing compositions\, then move into the process of editing them in the classroom. ***As an additional bonus\, we will also be creating one print a piece of something created during the day using Moab’s Fine Art papers. \nAttendees are encouraged to bring their computers–laptops or all-in-ones are fine (iMacs are welcome)–in order to do their own editing. Attendees should have Adobe Lightroom and/or Photoshop on their computer or a comparable program. We will be available to help with the processing of images during this time\, but we will also give live editing demonstrations. We will then view these edits\, critique\, and discuss them with the rest of the class.\nThis will be a fun and challenging workshop that will walk you through a very unique\, but storied process: Black & White. \nApproximate schedule for the day:\n9am- Introductions\, discussion black & white composition\, settings\, etc\n10am- Photographing\n1pm- Short lunch break; quick cleanup of macro setups (Attendees are encouraged to bring a bagged lunch and take a short break during this time) At this time\, we will have a short discussion about the editing process in black & white\n2pm- Editing\n4pm- Review & critique\n5pm- End of day \n\nIf you are attending this workshop\, we will send out more specific instructions to you a few days prior to the workshop. Please note: Some slight details above can be subject to change. This email will detail any of those minor changes.\nIf you have specific items that you would like to bring to photograph\, you are welcome to bring them as well. \nPlease read Hunt’s Terms & Conditions before signing up.

SUMMARY:Lightroom to Photoshop and Back Again- Hunt's Photo\, Providence
DESCRIPTION:Hunt’s Photo Education often promotes the idea of using Adobe Lightroom for most basic editing\, as the program’s interface for editing multiple images is fairly intuitive and is designed specifically for photographers. Lightroom can do quite a bit\, but there are times when Adobe Photoshop can do a better job. But where can we benefit from using Photoshop as opposed to Lightroom?\nOur course\, Lightroom to Photoshop and Back Again\, does exactly what the title says\, by starting in Lightroom\, then bringing images into Photoshop\, and then sending them back to Lightroom. We will begin by making basic changes to the images in Lightroom\, then bring them to Photoshop to fine-tune them and make the corrections that we either cannot make in Lightroom or ones that would be easier or better quality to make in Photoshop. Since Lightroom functions as an organizer as well as an editor\, we will finish by bringing the images back into Lightroom.\nIn this course we will learn:\n•When and why to use PS over LR\n•What are Layers?\n•Basic Photoshop workflow\n•Removing objects\n•Basic adjustments\n•Adding text \nWe recommend bringing a laptop for this class with Adobe Lightroom CC Classic and Adobe Photoshop CC installed. Please be advised: Lightroom CC Classic and Photoshop CC are the only versions we recommend for this class. Please make sure they are both downloaded and make sure you can open them prior to arriving. Also\, please be advised that Adobe Photoshop Elements and older versions of Photoshop have very different layouts and will not translate as well for this class. \n \nPlease read Hunt’s Terms & Conditions before signing up.

DESCRIPTION:Join Hunt’s Photo Education for our Macro & Tabletop Workshop\, Capture & Edit Edition! In this workshop\, we will combine the fun of photographing macro and tabletop setups with editing and processing of images. \nToo often we feel that our photography comes to a halt during inclement weather. Every table in your house can become a landscape of opportunity with some imagination and creativity. \nWe will begin with a short presentation on macro photography\, how to use specific gear\, how to light\, and how to compose macro photographs. We will then spend the next portion of our day creating a variety of still life set ups and unique macro scenarios using a variety of lights and light modifiers. We will then transition to the processing of images\, working individually on your own personal laptops. We will finish with a brief critique of images. \nWe recommend bringing a laptop with Adobe Lightroom or Adobe Photoshop installed for editing. \nThis workshop is recommended for anyone who wants to get more creative with their photography\, both in camera and in post-production! \nApproximate schedule for the day:\n10am- Introductions\, presentation on macro\, gear\, lighting\, settings\, etc\n11am- Photographing of macro setups\n2pm- Short lunch break; quick cleanup of macro setups (Attendees are encouraged to bring a bagged lunch and take a short break during this time) After lunch\, we will work on post-processing of images.\n4pm- Review & critique\n5pm- End of day \nPlease note: Depending on how many attendees we receive\, we may hold this workshop at a different nearby location with more space\, rather than in the store. On this walk\, we will work on architectural photography\, Image composition\, Black and White Photography\, and other ways of creating images expressively.\nThe city of Lowell is a wonderful example of an old New England mill town. A city that was once dominant in the textile industry\, Lowell’s population boomed during much of the 19th century\, peaking in the early 20th century. Lowell\, nicknamed “Mill City”\, still retains much of its’ early 20th century look (and charm)\, with many old mills being converted to apartments\, artist spaces\, shops and more. SUMMARY:Capture to Print featuring Sunrise at Marginal Way & Perkins Cove\, Ogunquit\, Maine
DESCRIPTION:Printing your photos will make you a better photographer. The first step to creating a great print is by understanding how to create a great photograph in the field.\nCapture-To-Print is an intermediate workshop that focuses not only on photography\, but also editing and printing! Half photo workshop\, half editing and printing\, we will take you through the whole process–from Capture to Print— to demonstrate what is important in the field\, how to effectively process photos\, and why printing is a necessity.\nWe will begin at Marginal Way & Perkins Cove in Ogunquit\, Maine for sunrise. We will emphasize how to get the best results in the field for the best end result\, including focus\, exposure\, and more. At 9am\, we will break from shooting and make our way back to the classroom at our S. Portland location\, about 45 minutes away. We will reconvene at 10:30am. (Attendees are encouraged to get breakfast in the meantime.)\nWe will then transition from photographing to editing\, which will include discussion of certain techniques. Attendees are encouraged to bring their computers–laptops or all-in-ones are fine (iMacs are welcome)–in order to do their own editing. Attendees should have Adobe Lightroom and/or Photoshop on their computer or a comparable program. We will be available to help with the processing of images during this time. Shortly after noon\, we will view these edits\, critique\, and discuss them with the rest of the class while also creating 13×19″ prints.\nThis will be a fun and challenging workshop that will walk you through the full process of creating a photograph. The process of printing is integral to developing one’s photographic vision. \nApproximate schedule for the day:\n5:15am- Meet at Marginal Way\, Ogunquit\, ME. Photograph sunrise and the area around it.\n9:15am- Break for travel and breakfast\n10:30am- Reconvene at Hunt’s Photo\, South Portland. Begin editing.\n12:30pm- Review\, critique\, and printing \n\nIf you are attending this workshop\, we will send out more specific instructions to you a few days prior to the workshop. Please note: Some slight details above can be subject to change. This email will detail any of those minor changes. \nPlease read Hunt’s Terms & Conditions before signing up.
