SUMMARY:Capture to Print: Flowers & Macro
DESCRIPTION:Printing your photos will make you a better photographer. The first step to creating a great print is by understanding how to create a great photograph in the field.\nCapture-To-Print is an intermediate workshop that focuses not only on photography\, but also editing and printing! Half photo workshop\, half editing and printing\, we will take you through the whole process–from Capture to Print— to demonstrate what is important in the field\, how to effectively process photos\, and why printing is a necessity.\nOur process for this Capture to Print workshop will be a little different from our previous workshops. We will begin in our Melrose classroom with lighting setups and a variety of flowers\, which we will photograph over the course of the morning. We will transition from photographing to editing in the early afternoon. Attendees are encouraged to bring their computers–laptops or all-in-ones are fine (iMacs are welcome)–in order to do their own editing. Attendees should have Adobe Lightroom and/or Photoshop\, or a comparable program on their computer. We will be available to help with the processing of images during this time. We will then view these edits\, critique\, and discuss them with the rest of the class while also creating 13×19″ prints.\nThis will be a fun and challenging workshop that will walk you through the full process of creating a photograph. The process of printing is integral to developing one’s photographic vision. \nApproximate schedule for the day:\n9am- Introductions\, discussion of lighting and macro techniques\n10am- Photographing of flowers\, macro\n12pm- Begin editing (Attendees are encouraged to bring a bagged lunch and take a short break during this time)\n2pm- Review\, critique\, and printing \n\nIf you are attending this workshop\, we will send out more specific instructions to you a few days prior to the workshop. Please note: Some slight details above can be subject to change. This email will detail any of those minor changes.\nIf you have specific flowers that you would like to bring to photograph\, you are welcome to bring them as well. \nPlease read Hunt’s Terms & Conditions before signing up.

SUMMARY:Edit to Print- Hunt's Photo\, S. Portland
DESCRIPTION:How do we edit an image to make the best print possible? Which images work for print and which do not? What paper should we print on? How should we edit for each paper? In this roundtable class\, we will work with your images\, discuss and process them\, and discuss the printing process. We ask attendees to bring in three images on a USB drive (RAW\, if possible) that they may want to print. We will review the images and choose one to edit in Adobe Lightroom and then send it to print.\nAttendees are also welcome to bring their laptop to work on the images during class for submission. We will gladly assist on any editing you would like to do.\nAttendees will leave with one print\, 12×18 in size (printed on 13×19 paper) and a bit more knowledge on the process of editing and printing\, not to mention the knowledge of how to take the photograph better in the field for next time.\nThis is a class that you can take as many times as you’d like. Since you’re constantly working with new images\, you’re always working out new challenges!\nIn the class\, we will have a variety of paper options to choose from\, including Moab Fine Art papers. (The cost of a 12×18 or 13×19 print on fine art paper is $35-$40; the cost of this class includes the cost of that print!) \nCome see your images\, printed vibrantly in a large format! \nTo register in S. SUMMARY:Macro & Close Up Photography Workshop- Hunt's Photo\, Providence
DESCRIPTION:Too often we feel that our photography comes to a halt during inclement weather. However\, there is ample opportunity to make use of our creativity while staying indoors. Many household items– cut flowers\, books\, antiques\, jewelry\, and glassware– all make for wonderful subjects while using natural window light. Every table in your house can become a landscape of opportunity with some imagination and creativity. \nWe will spend our day creating a variety of still life set ups\, unique macro scenarios\, and learning about the use of light and light modifiers.\nIn this workshop we will cover exposure\, composition\, how to use macro lenses and extension tubes\, how to set up lighting\, how to use light modifiers and more! \nWe will be bringing lots of props and flowers to photograph for this workshop. However\, we found on the last couple macro workshops that our attendees value shooting some things of their own as much if not more than what we bring. So\, while we will have props\, feel free to bring your own props\, trinkets\, and other things that may (or may not) be important to you! \n \nPlease read Hunt’s Terms & Conditions before signing up.

SUMMARY:Editing Using Capture One- Exposure\, Layer\, Color Grading\, & More- Hunt's Photo\, Melrose
DESCRIPTION:Capture One is one of the most popular and professional photo editing softwares on the market. It’s a complete photo editor that allows for extensive color editing\, the ability to work with layers in an image\, tethered shooting\, and more in a fairly easy-to-use package! Capture One also boasts extensive camera and lens profiles for many brands\, emphasizing not just Canon and Nikon\, but also Fuji\, Sony and others.\nIn this course we will learn:\n•General program layout\n•Basics of exposure controls\n•Layers- what they are\, how and when to use them\n•Color editing tools\n•Spot Removal Tool\n•Tethering basics \nCome join us as we explore this fascinating program! \nWhy choose Capture One vs. Adobe Lightroom? This program can be seen as an addition to or replacement for Adobe Lightroom. Capture One’s interface focuses on processing of images without having to create catalogs of images\, allowing one to focus primarily on what’s important in images: Exposure\, spot correction\, color\, and more. Capture One’s biggest advantage over Lightroom is its robust color processing capabilities\, which allow one to work in a straightforward way to properly render color. Capture One is also one of the few professional photo editing softwares that is available to purchase\, rather than Adobe’s leasing with monthly payments. But rest assured- We’re not biased! Our instructors have both Capture One and Lightroom! \nWe recommend bringing a laptop for this class with Capture One Pro 12 installed. Please be advised: Capture One Pro 12 is the only version we recommend for this class. Please make sure the program is downloaded and make sure you can open it prior to arriving. Note:The other major version of this program\, Capture One Express\, does not offer the same editing capabilities (specifically the inability to work with Layers). We are happy to work with you in a 1-on-1 environment\, as this class will likely not be suitable for Express. \nTo register in Melrose\n \nPlease read Hunt’s Terms & Conditions before signing up.

SUMMARY:Hunt's Photo Adventure: Cuba- Real & Raw
DESCRIPTION:Please note: Despite the announcement of travel restrictions to Cuba by our government\, we are happy to report that our trips will be unaffected by these changes. For a brief synopsis\, please click here. \nQuick Link- Registration information for March 2020 can be found here. \nSimply put\, Cuba is like no other place on earth. The spellbinding history from the early Carribean-Spanish explorers to the mid- twentieth century reads like a legendary novel. Life for the Cuban people changed dramatically in the 1960’s. It’s as if the country was placed in a time capsule for fifty years and suddenly emerged\, opening the doors to all who wish to explore. One can certainly feel the complexities of Cuba’s history and the strength of those who call it their home. The music makes you dance and the arts convey the struggles and triumphs. The ranchers are as rugged as the untouched land and the cigars are worth the trip alone. Cuba is absolutely fascinating. \nHunt’s Photo and Don Toothaker want to welcome guest instructor Erica Robinson to this photography workshop. We plan to challenge you to slow down\, think\, observe\, anticipate and feel each and every shot. Our days will be full of photographic opportunities\, instruction and discussion as we experience a very unique look into the heart and soul of Cuba. \nYour trip includes:\n•8 days & 7 nights in Havana\, Viñales and Trinidad\, Cuba.\n•Optional 3-day\, 2 night extension to Trinidad\n•24/7 Photography coaching\, tips\, tutorials and lessons.\n•Round trip airfare from Miami\, Tampa\, or Fort Lauderdale\, Florida to Havana.\n•Cuban visa processing and fee (There is an additional fee for Cuban born travelers).\n•Medical insurance while visiting Cuba.\n•All airline and airport fees (U.S. & Cuba except baggage & excess weight fees).\n•Ground transportation within Cuba.\n•All accommodations while visiting Cuba (Private Bed & Breakfast with air conditioned rooms and en-suite bathrooms).\n•Entrance fees when applicable.\n•All gratuities are included.\n•Experienced tour guides (English\, Spanish\, Portuguese and French speaking are available).\n•All meals are included (two “mixed” National drinks). Due to the nature of this photography tour\, some lunches may be light and “on the go”. Cuba has no fast food restaurants so we will do our best to keep the photographers happy and well fed while out in the field. Please advise us about any restrictions or food allergies. \nYour trip does not include:\n•Round-trip travel from your home to Miami\, Tampa\, or Fort Lauderdale\, Florida.\n•Lodging in Miami\, Tampa\, or Fort Lauderdale\, Florida.\n•Baggage fees for overage.\n•Activities outside the tour itinerary.\n•Travel insurance\, which is highly recommended for all travelers. \nYour passport will be required on this workshop. \nPlease note that this workshop is being coordinated by our travel agency. SUMMARY:Beyond the Basics- Sports\, Camera\, Action!- Hunt's Photo\, Melrose
DESCRIPTION:To photograph sports is similar to the sport itself\, pushing the limits of your camera and lens. A knowledge of focusing\, exposure\, depth of field\, composition\, and more make for more thought-provoking sports photographs. Above all\, photographing sports takes practice\, control\, concentration\, and a knowledge of the goal.\nIn photographing\, not every sport is created equal (for settings)! There are sports in bright\, mid-day sun; there are sports indoors under a fluorescent\, high school “sky”; there are sports with black backgrounds and sports with white backgrounds. How do we compensate in each scenario?\nIn this seminar-based class\, we will discuss many of these topics for a variety of different scenarios and sports\, including basketball\, football\, hockey\, cross-country\, and more. Topics of discussion will include:\n-Basic camera settings\n-Auto-Focusing modes and settings\n-Lens options\n-Thinking out of the Box! \nPlease note: This class is a seminar-based class that will be discussing settings and options\, and not in-the-field. This class is recommended as a prerequisite to any of our Sports Photo Walks. \n \nPlease read Hunt’s Terms & Conditions before signing up.

SUMMARY:Online: Beyond the Basics- Low Light and Night Photography
DESCRIPTION:Below the course description (but before registration) will be a short explanation on how the class will run. \nAfter learning “the basics” of digital photography\, become more comfortable in the world of digital photography by taking the next step.\nNight Photography requires patience and creative vision. Despite the limitations of darkness there is still great detail and color to be captured through your lenses. Low light photography is equally challenging\, but requires a completely different set of techniques. This course specifically covers these two very different yet aesthetically beautiful types of photography. While our Beginner class scratches the surface of these functions\, this Beyond the Basics class covers the following topics in Low-Light and Night Photography:\n• Exposure\, Focusing\, Settings\, Subject Matter\, and Gear\n• RAW vs. Jpeg shooting\n• Aperture Priority vs. Manual\n• Live View and Manual Focus \nUnderstanding the full-functionality of your camera is a necessity to improving your flexibility when photographing in a variety of situations. SUMMARY:Online: Tripods! Tips & Tricks
DESCRIPTION:In response to COVID-19 and recommendations by the CDC of social distancing\, Hunt’s Photo Education is presenting our new series of online classes! (Hey! We wanted to do it anyway\, this just sped up the process!) These courses will be shorter (about 1 hour)\, online versions of many classes that we currently offer\, plus a few new ones\, and include Q&A at the end.\nBelow the course description (but before registration) will be a short explanation on how the class will run. \nWhat’s the deal with tripods? Often\, we get questions about what is important when purchasing a tripod and why we might choose one tripod over another. Even more often\, we will be on photo walks and attendees will come with tripods that just don’t “fit the bill”–in other words\, they wobble\, they don’t get tall enough\, and their end result (the photograph) isn’t tack-sharp. Even other times\, our attendees are flummoxed as to how to set up a tripod.\nBut no longer! This course will teach you all about tripods\, including what options to look for\, the varying parts of a tripod\, and how to use one properly. Come join us as we get you more stable! \nRegistering and what is needed\nAfter you register for this class\, you will receive a confirmation email that you have signed up. SUMMARY:Online: Editing Essentials in Lightroom
\nYou’ve taken a fantastic image and you understand the basics of editing in Adobe Lightroom. So what’s the problem? Have we made it good enough? Have we made the right steps along the way? How can we make it better? This class is all about editing one of your images.\nLeading up to this class\, we will ask for 2-3 images (RAW\, if possible) from you in order to edit ONE of them in class. We will do this with each of our 6-8 attendees and in the end\, we will have discussed a whole slew of topics that will (hopefully) make you a better editor!\nWe are constantly asked: Who should take this class? What if you’re new to Lightroom? Yes- because you’ll see the possibilities in the program! What if you don’t use Lightroom? Sure! We will be using Lightroom\, but the concepts are very similar throughout other similar programs. What if you just use a cell phone or shoot only in JPEG? I don’t see why not! Just because you shoot in JPEG or with a cell phone doesn’t mean you can’t edit your photos. This is a great all-encompassing class\, working out challenges for all levels!\nThis is a class that you can take as many times as you’d like. Since you’re constantly working with new images\, you’re always working out new challenges! \nRegistering and what is needed\nAfter you register for this class\, you will receive a confirmation email that you have signed up. About 48 hours prior to the class time\, we will send out an email with the weblink for you to follow as well as information on how to access the class online. (It’s pretty easy\, but we’ll walk you through it in a quick online video!)\nAt that time\, we will also send you a link to upload 2-3 images. \nLayout of the class\nThe class will begin promptly at the time listed. The majority of the class–roughly 1 hour– will be a presentation on the topic\, followed by a short Q&A. During the class\, you are welcome to type in questions in the Chat box if you have specific questions as they are asked. We will do our best to answer those questions\, but if not\, feel free to ask them at the end. \n \nPlease read Hunt’s Terms & Conditions before signing up.

\nIn this online class\, we will cover exposure\, composition\, how to use macro lenses and extension tubes\, how to set up lighting\, how to use light modifiers and more! \nRegistering and what is needed\nAfter you register for this class\, you will receive a confirmation email that you have signed up.
