SUMMARY:Online: Multi-Session Series- Editing in Adobe Lightroom Classic
DESCRIPTION:Below the course description (but before registration) will be a short explanation on how the class will run. \nJoin Hunt’s Photo Education for our new Multi-Session Series. In our Multi-Session Series\, we will meet over the course of a number of weeks\, generally at the same time each week. During that time\, we will discuss a specific element of a topic and end the session by giving a photographic assignment. That assignment will be due for completion before the next class meeting\, and we will review those images at the start of the next session. If for some reason you cannot attend one of the sessions\, don’t worry! They will be recorded and you will be able to watch them at your leisure!\nOur Multi-Session Series is designed to “keep the conversation going” by engaging with our attendees in a more personal way. In each of these classes\, we will have 10-15 attendees and provide direct feedback on images. We encourage photographers of all skill levels to consider these classes\, as they will build upon your experience and provide an excellent chance to work on your imagery! \nEditing in Adobe Lightroom\nThis is a great opportunity to build up your editing skills in Lightroom!\nAdobe Lightroom is the choice program for professionals and amateurs\, with ever-growing capabilities and options. However\, there are many levels to understanding in the program. What do we do to make basic changes? Once we learn those changes\, how can we “step it up” and figure out what to we’re supposed to do? How do we make images pop? And finally\, how do we put it all together and making finishing touches to our images.\nJoin Hunt’s Photo Education for this three-week course that helps answer many of these questions. What’s most important about this course is that we will give weekly editing assignments\, and we will review those edits at the start of the following week. Often\, Lightroom users struggle with the inability to determine what changes are “good” or “correct”. While those terms are subjective\, we will help you along in the editing process to see how to make determinations along the way.\nIn week one\, we’ll talk about file types and adjustment ranges using Basic Development controls. More than anything\, we will be emphasizing global changes and understanding what can be done with an image in Lightroom. In week two\, we’ll dive into Color\, Curves\, Contrast & Clarity & Texture. These changes will help make your images pop. Finally\, in week three\, we’ll discuss advanced editing\, including Sharpening\, HDR\, Pano stitching and more.\nEach week\, we will give an assignment and students will upload their edited photos prior to the next class. We will\, by and large\, be working with your images in the class. \nThis class is strongly recommended for anyone either looking to just get started with editing\, or to fine-tune your editing skills! \nAfter you register for this class\, you will receive a confirmation email that will include information about how to access the online class\, including an online ID code that you will need to get into the class. Make sure to save this information. We will also send a reminder email about 24 hours prior to the class time with that same information. \nLayout of the class\nThe class will begin promptly at the time listed. If for some reason you cannot attend one of the sessions\, don’t worry! They will be recorded and you will be able to watch them at your leisure! During each class\, you are welcome to type in questions in the Question box if you have specific questions as they are asked. We will do our best to answer those questions\, but if not\, feel free to ask them at the end. \n“You Are Being Recorded” (And Other Note Related Items)\nWe will be recording this class! The video will be available for download about 24-hours after the class for all attendees\, so don’t worry about taking unending notes. We will send this link attendees to download and rewatch at any time. In addition to this\, we will generally send out a PDF of the presentation (when applicable) and handouts on the topic. If handouts and PDFs are included\, we will send it out with the link for the video. \nNo online classes should be shared and cannot be shared in a public environment\, including with camera clubs\nThe online content is the copyright of Hunt’s Photo Education and/or the Instructor. Please support our education team and instructors by not sharing this material! We appreciate your support\, and it’s thanks to that support that we are able to continue producing content! \n \nPlease read Hunt’s Terms & Conditions before signing up.

SUMMARY:Online: Multi-Session Series- Mastering Manual Mode
DESCRIPTION:Join Hunt’s Photo Education for our new Multi-Session Series. In our Multi-Session Series\, we will meet over the course of a number of weeks\, generally at the same time each week. In each of these classes\, we will have 10-15 attendees and provide direct feedback on images. We encourage photographers of all skill levels to consider these classes\, as they will build upon your experience and provide an excellent chance to work on your imagery! \nMastering Manual Mode\nLearning about photography can be a real challenge. There are so many pieces to the puzzle of photography\, some of which use confusing terminology. For this reason\, we often start newcomers off using the Priority Modes because it’s “easier”. In reality\, these priority modes are just a short-term solution. It’s important to fully understand the “why” and “how” of your camera settings\, and learning to master manual is an excellent way to do so. \nThis Multi-Session Series will focus on Mastering Manual Mode. In week 1\, we’ll cover the technical side of aperture\, shutter\, and ISO. We’ll also discuss metering modes\, reading your meter\, and understanding histograms. In week 2\, we’ll learn to control depth of field\, focusing\, and how lens choice affects aperture choice. By week 3\, we’ll discuss how to use shutter speed effectively to either blur your motion or freeze your action. We’ll talk about shooting at night and in low light. We’ll also talk about ISO and how it controls image noise. In week 4\, we’ll put everything together by discussing dynamic range\, white balance\, and how to get the correct exposure in camera every time. We’ll also answer the most important question of all: which change should I make to achieve my desired results? \nEach week Emily will give an assignment to help further the topics covered in that week’s class. Students are encouraged to send in assignments that will be individually critiqued by Emily each week. This is a great opportunity to enhance your exposure skills while getting direct feedback on your week. \nRegistering and what is needed\nAfter you register for this class\, you will receive a confirmation email that will include information about how to access the online class\, including an online ID code that you will need to get into the class. Make sure to save this information. We will also send a reminder email about 48 hours prior to the class time with that same information. \nLayout of the class\nThe class will begin promptly at the time listed. DESCRIPTION:This Walk is part of our Emerging Series\, as we cautiously begin to emerge from the COVID-19 lockdown. For this series of walks\, we have chosen areas that are more spread out and with less foot traffic. We will also be limiting our group size to a maximum of 8 attendees with one instructor. After the course description (but before registration) will be guidelines for these walks. Please make sure to read them prior to registering. \nWalk Description\nJoin instructor Don Toothaker for a special photo walk in Haverhill\, MA where we will concentrate on being able to see and photograph in Black & White. This will be followed the next night by an image review/critique featuring images taken on the photo walk by each attendee. Photographers of all skill levels are welcome!\nHaverhill\, Massachusetts was once known as the “Queen Slipper City” for its high percentage of shoes produced in the town. The town retains the look of a manufacturing town\, and this look translates extremely well to the look of Black & White photography. On this walk\, we will move about the downtown area and along the Merrimack River at dusk and into the night. Our task will be to focus our energies into how to effectively see and create images in Black & White.\nAfter the walk\, attendees will be asked to edit 2-3 images in black and white and submit them for our image review/critique\, which will happen the following night. We will discuss each attendee’s images and look at all the elements of photography discussed on the walk. Please note that this session will be recorded in case you cannot attend. \nEmerging Series- A Guideline for Photo Walks during the era of COVID-19\nAs the COVID lockdown ends and social restrictions begin to ease\, we have decided to start offering our popular Hunt’s Photo Walks again.\nHunt’s Photo Education remains dedicated to the health and safety of every single attendee\, student\, and customer\, first and foremost. SUMMARY:Online: Trigger Happy! How (and why) to Use Wireless Flash Triggers
DESCRIPTION:Below the course description (but before registration) will be a short explanation on how the class will run. \nMost portrait photographers will tell you that the best way to use a flash is off-the-camera. But how do you take a flash off the camera? The answer is through wireless flash triggers! So\, does it make more sense to buy Manual triggers or TTL? How do you use each of them effectively? And by the way\, did you know you can fire a camera using these triggers?\nJoin Hunt’s Photo Education’s Paul Nelson as we talk all about triggers\, Manual and TTL\, Pocket Wizard\, Phottix\, GoDox\, and more. In addition to the presentation\, we’ll get hands-on with a bunch of different options that are out there. This class is a great way to learn more about how to use these fun little devices that can be vexing or a lifesaver! \nRegistering and what is needed\nAfter you register for this class\, you will receive a confirmation email that will include information about how to access the online class\, including an online ID code that you will need to get into the class.
SUMMARY:Online: Image Review/Critique- Food Photography
DESCRIPTION:Below the course description (but before registration) will be a short explanation on how the class will run. \nThere is so much to think about in photography– from settings and composition to editing and post processing and so much more– that it can be easy to get lost within your images. Join Hunt’s Photo Education for a chance to discuss one of your images in a review and critique session\, where we will discuss many of these topics and how they work in your image. Our Hunt’s Photo Education Team firmly believes that presenting personal work and observing peer work is paramount to the growth and development of your photographic vision. \nThis Week’s Topic\nFor this week’s topic\, all attendees will submit an image for review or critique of food! Photographing food is a challenging endeavor that requires a knowledge of photography\, of food\, and the patience to not snack on what you’re photographing! During the review and critique\, we will discuss numerous topics\, such as image composition\, exposure\, focus\, and all the settings associated with the image. Is the food appetizing or not? (Is it supposed to be?) Are color and exposure correct? We will figure all of this out during the class! You are welcome to edit the image you submit or leave it unedited.\nIf you are editing exporting from Lightroom or Capture One\, we ask that you export the image as a DNG\, or save the RAW file with a XMP sidecar file so that we can reedit the image\, if need be. (If you’re unsure what a DNG file is\, watch this short video about exporting as DNG. And if you cannot save the file in either formats and choose to submit an edited photo\, please submit an edited and unedited version so we can reedit\, if need be.)\nWe encourage photographers of all levels to consider this course\, as it is as valuable to seasoned professional as it is to a beginner! \nThis class will be a small group of up to 10-15 attendees. Upon registering\, you will receive a confirmation email that will include a link in order to upload images to us for the image review. We will also send out a reminder email a few days prior. Make sure to leave yourself enough time to upload your photo! \nJoin us for this exciting opportunity to share your photographic work with the community! \nRegarding uploading of images\nFor this critique\, we ask that you export a DNG from Lightroom/Capture One or save as the original RAW with the XMP sidecar file. DNG is a RAW format that also embeds in all the changes you have made previously to the image! Since it’s RAW\, we can still make “lossless” changes to the DNG file\, so that’s very helpful. We’ve made a short video about how to do it that you can watch here: https://www.dropbox.com/s/ll87ah4kapx0zul/exporting-to-dng.mp4?dl=0 \nRegistering and what is needed\nAfter you register for this class\, you will receive a confirmation email that will include information about how to access the online class\, including an online ID code that you will need to get into the class. Make sure to save this information. We will also send a reminder email about 24 hours prior to the class time with that same information. \nLayout of the class\nOur course layout is simple. This course will last about 2 hours\, depending on quantity of attendees. During that time\, all attendees will be muted. When we critique your image\, we will unmute you\, so please have a working microphone on your computer/tablet.\nDuring the class\, you are welcome to type in questions in the Chat box if you have specific questions as they are asked. \nCan’t attend the class? \nIf you can’t attend the class but still want to download the video\, no problem: Just sign up for the class! You don’t need to attend and we will send the video and PDF link the next day! \nWant to get this class after it’s been run?\nIf you want to purchase this or any other of the classes we have done\, you can certainly do so. Just send us an email at classes@huntsphoto.com and we can send you the invoice. (We prefer having folks in our classes\, but this option is available as well if you want to see it!) \n \nPlease read Hunt’s Terms & Conditions before signing up.

SUMMARY:Hunt's Photo Walk: Emerging Series- The North End in Black & White
DESCRIPTION:Walk Description\nJoin Hunt’s Photo Education for a photo walk in the historic North End of Boston. During the walk\, we will discuss shooting in lower light with an emphasis on black and white photography. This will include assistance with exposure\, composition\, focusing\, use of tripods\, and a myriad of other settings and concepts.\nBoston is often referred to as a “city of neighborhoods”. One of the city’s most notable neighborhoods\, and its oldest\, is the North End. Beginning in the 1600s this is where immigrants to the New World entered the city for the first time\, which made the North End a busy\, vibrant center of activity. Today\, this tightly knit area is known as “Little Italy” given the prominent Italian-American influence and population found here. Quaint eateries\, fine restaurants\, and historic locations are characteristics that make the North End one of Boston’s premier destinations. \nThis walk is also an excellent chance to work on street photography. During the first few hours\, our light will start to change\, giving us some excellent opportunities at casual portraits and street scenes. SUMMARY:Hunt's Photo Walk: Emerging Series- Filters at Scituate Lighthouse
DESCRIPTION:This Walk is part of our Emerging Series\, as we cautiously begin to emerge from the COVID-19 lockdown. We will then work to create daytime long exposures using neutral density filters. Filters and a tripod are required for this walk. \nThis is a great opportunity to work on daytime long exposures by using Neutral Density filters and learning how to use a CPL filter properly.
SUMMARY:Online: Multi-Session Series- Portraits- Natural & Flash
\nPortraits- Natural & Flash\nAs we close out the summer months\, we begin to enter the season of Senior Portraits\, engagement sessions\, and even holiday family portraits. Portrait photographers keep themselves busy utilizing the warm weather and long days\, but what are the important elements to understand about portraits? What is “good” light? (When) Should I use a flash? What are some standards of editing portraits in Lightroom\, Capture One\, or Photoshop? \nJoin Hunt’s Photo Education as we continue our Multi-Session Series into the realm of portraits! In Portraits- Natural Light and Flash\, we will emphasize creating portraits using available light through subject placement and composition\, with the aid of diffusers and reflectors\, but then explain when\, where\, and why to utilize flash\, and how we can achieve extraordinary results with a little bit of knowledge! \nIn week one\, we will discuss “Looking for the Light”\, where we will consider a variety of possibilities and how to consider where to place your subject and how to light them naturally using reflectors and diffusers. In week two\, we will discuss basic editing techniques in Adobe Lightroom and Capture One\, including exposure\, color editing\, and skin softening. In week three\, we will add in the element of flash and discuss how the addition of flash can benefit certain scenarios. In week four\, we will shift to Adobe Photoshop and discuss additional benefits of using that software for editing\, such as advanced skin softening and color editing techniques and finishing effects.\nEach week you’ll have a new assignment that will help build your portfolio of portrait images. Along the way\, you’ll be able to ask Paul and Alex questions and receive weekly individual\, personalized critiques and feedbacks from your assignment images.\nYou don’t need to be a professional to take this course\, or even know advanced concepts of Photoshop\, nor the inner workings of your flash. Photographers of all levels should apply\, as we will cascade the learning process. We do recommend having either Adobe Lightroom or Capture One editing software\, as well as Adobe Photoshop; a reflector will be helpful; if you have a flash and remote triggers for your flash\, they will also be helpful.\nPhotographers should have an understanding of exposure before taking this class. \nRegistering and what is needed\nAfter you register for this class\, you will receive a confirmation email that will include information about how to access the online class\, including an online ID code that you will need to get into the class. Make sure to save this information. SUMMARY:Online: Beyond the Basics: Filters- When\, How\, and Why to Use Them
DESCRIPTION:In response to COVID-19 and recommendations by the CDC of social distancing\, Hunt’s Photo Education is presenting our new series of online classes! (Hey! We wanted to do it anyway\, this just sped up the process!) These courses will be shorter (about 1 hour)\, online versions of many classes that we currently offer\, plus a few new ones\, and include Q&A at the end.\nBelow the course description (but before registration) will be a short explanation on how the class will run. \n \nUsing filters is a time-honored practice in photography. While many filters from the days of film are no longer relevant\, there are many effects that are unachievable without the use of filters\, even in the modern digital age! And these effects produce some of the most stunning results!\nDuring this seminar class\, we will discuss the different types of filters available for creative photography. We will also go over when and why you should use them and review how to use them. We will cover polarizing filters\, neutral density filters\, soft and hard-edge graduated filters\, close-up filters and more! We will demonstrate with these varieties of filters\, with ND and Polarizing filters courtesy of Benro filters. \nRegistering and what is needed\nAfter you register for this class\, you will receive a confirmation email that you have signed up. About 24 hours prior to the class time\, we will send out an email with the weblink for you to follow as well as information on how to access the class online. (It’s pretty easy\, but we’ll walk you through it in a quick online video!) \nLayout of the class\nThe class will begin promptly at the time listed. The majority of the class–roughly 1 hour– will be a presentation on the topic\, followed by a short Q&A. During the class\, you are welcome to type in questions in the Chat box if you have specific questions as they are asked. We will do our best to answer those questions\, but if not\, feel free to ask them at the end. \n \nPlease read Hunt’s Terms & Conditions before signing up.

SUMMARY:Online: Special Guest Series- All Things Music Photography with Adam Elmakias
DESCRIPTION:Below the course description (but before registration) will be a short explanation on how the class will run. \n \nDo you want to learn the secrets of concert photography? You’ve come to the right place. What’s up. Adam Elmakias here. I am a music photographer based out of Los Angeles\, California. I have spent over half my life convincing people I am a music photographer\, and shooting for another 15 years. I am here to teach you what I know\, how I know it\, and how you can know it too. The music industry is the Wild West of the photography industry. It’s a bunch of social skills combined with learning how to be a photographer along the way. Come hang out\, I’ll teach you how I approach the industry and how I believe you should as well. All of our lives are different and that is an important thing to recognize when it comes to music photography. So\, while concerts are on pause\, let’s learn some new information. Because once they are back – people are going to want to see some photos of them. \nAbout Adam Elmakias: Adam Elmakias is a worldwide music photographer and Sigma Ambassador\, traveling with bands and photographing them on and off stage. Originally from Wisconsin\, Adam spent most of his teenage years going to concerts and taking photos from the crowd. Through a mix of networking (and what some would argue is borderline harassment)\, he eventually wiggled himself on tour with a few bands. Fast forward 12 years\, and Adam has spent more time on the road than in his living room! \nRegistering and what is needed\nAfter you register for this class\, you will receive a confirmation email that will include information about how to access the online class\, including an online ID code that you will need to get into the class. Make sure to save this information. We will also send a reminder email about 24 hours prior to the class time with that same information. \nLayout of the class\nThe class will begin promptly at the time listed. The majority of the class–90 minutes to 2 hours– will be a presentation on the topic\, followed by a short Q&A. During the class\, you are welcome to type in questions in the Chat box if you have specific questions as they are asked. We will do our best to answer those questions\, but if not\, feel free to ask them at the end. \nCan’t attend the class? \nIf you can’t attend the class but still want to download the video\, no problem: Just sign up for the class! You don’t need to attend and we will send the video link the next day! \nNo online classes should be shared and cannot be shared in a public environment\, including with camera clubs\nThe online content is the copyright of Hunt’s Photo Education and/or the Instructor.
