SUMMARY:Online: Printed Vision Series- Back in Black- Printing Nightscapes
DESCRIPTION:Instructor: Paul Nelson \nBelow the course description (but before registration) will be a short explanation on how the class will run.\nAbout The Printed Vision Series\nThe printed image shows our successes and our faults at a much higher level of detail than the digital image. To become better photographers\, it helps to understand this by creating the printed image as a final product\, which is the purpose behind the Printed Vision Series.\nEach Printed Vision topic will meet for two sessions. In the first session\, we will discuss the topic and elaborate on editing with examples. This will include discussion of exposure\, dynamic range and color\, but also deeper points\, such as noise reduction\, image sharpening and grain. In between sessions 1 and 2\, attendees will independently process 1-2 images and submit them to the instructor for printing. We will print one of the two images leading into the second session and discuss some of the challenges we face in printing them.\nYou do not need to produce a new image for this class and can go into your archives to print\, but you are welcome to go out into the field and create something new based on the topic! \nThis Month’s Printed Vision Session: Printing Nightscapes\nNightscapes can be some of the most beautiful images when printed. They possess not only deep\, rich blacks that shine through on the paper\, but also high levels of contrast and can also present an incredible level of rich color. There’s a lot to be proud of when hanging a Nightscape on our wall!\nIn this session\, we will delve into printing nightscapes\, including different paper options\, what details to look for when choosing an image\, and elements of image processing. Specifically\, we’ll look at details such image sharpening\, noise reduction\, grain\, exposure\, and color management. Our instructional online presentation will be held on July 7th from 7-8pm and we will reconvene for our Printed Image Review on July 21st from 7-8:30pm. You will have that time period in between to photograph and/or edit your images. In the end\, you will receive a 12×18″ print on fine art paper. (Please note: The cost of a 12×18 or 13×19 print on fine art paper is $35-$40; the cost of this class includes the cost of that print!)\nThe Printed Vision classes are an excellent opportunity to learn more about not only about printing\, but also the processing of images at a much more focused level. Recommended for everyone: Beginners to Advanced Photographers. Come join us for a lot of fun! \nReceiving Your Print\nAfter the class\, your print can either be mailed to you or picked up at one of our Hunt’s Photo store locations. \nRegistering and what is needed\nAfter you register for this class\, you will receive a confirmation email that will include information about how to access the online class\, including an online ID code that you will need to get into the class. Make sure to save this information. We will also send a reminder email about 48 hours prior to the class time with that same information. \n“You Are Being Recorded” (And Other Note Related Items)\nWe will be recording this class! The video will be available for download about 24-hours after the class for all attendees\, so don’t worry about taking unending notes. We will send this link attendees to download and rewatch at any time. \nRegister here\n***Having trouble registering? On this walk\, we will work on architectural photography\, Image composition\, Black and White Photography\, and other ways of creating images expressively.\nThe city of Lowell is a wonderful example of an old New England mill town. A city that was once dominant in the textile industry\, Lowell’s population boomed during much of the 19th century\, peaking in the early 20th century. Lowell\, nicknamed “Mill City”\, still retains much of its’ early 20th century look (and charm)\, with many old mills being converted to apartments\, artist spaces\, shops and more. On this walk\, we will photograph around many of the mill areas and along the beautiful Merrimack River with the many bridges and cobblestone walkways. Photographers of all skill levels are welcome. \nUpdated COVID-19 Policies for outdoor Hunt’s Photo Walks and Workshops\nHunt’s Photo Education is aligning with CDC and state guidelines and will no longer require face masks for our outdoor Photo Walks.
SUMMARY:Hunt's Photo Nifty Fifty Workshop: Chinatown to Downtown Crossing
DESCRIPTION:Walk: Friday\, July 23rd\, 7-10pm • Boston\, MA \nImage Review: Monday\, July 26th\, 7-9pm • Online! \n  \nWorking in the field with only a 50mm lens! \nFollowed by an image review & critique \nRecommended prerequisite: Working knowledge of your camera We also recommend having some of the knowledge from our Beginner Photography class \nMust have a 50mm lens \nAll Skill Levels Welcome \nInstructor: Emily Hojnowski \nClass Size: Maximum 8 attendees \nAbout the Nifty Fifty Workshops\nEvery photographer at one point or another has the internal struggle before going to photograph: What lenses should I bring with me today? The common answer is as many as I can without being too uncomfortable. And so we pack up our wide\, standard\, telephoto\, prime\, and macro lenses and head out into the field\, forcing ourselves to endure limitless choices while sacrificing simplicity.\nOur Nifty Fifty workshops flip the script and force you to only carry one lens: A 50mm lens\, nostalgically referred to as a “nifty fifty”. With limitations\, what can you– the photographer\, the creator\, the artist– achieve?\nThese workshops will start with our basic photo walk\, where we will meet in the field and work with only a 50mm lens in a specific location. Attendees will then submit a handful of images for an online image review\, to be held a few days later. During that image review\, we will be able to see others’ work\, discuss how to achieve different effects\, and consider editing choices. This is an excellent workshop for all photographers–from Beginner to Advanced–because it forces you to work in a different way. \nWalk Description\nFor this workshop\, we will be photographing from Chinatown to Downtown Crossing. Chinatown and Downtown Crossing (and areas in between) are two easily recognizable areas in downtown Boston. Boston’s Chinatown is quite small in size\, but has many unique sites and is the last remaining historic Chinese area in New England. Downtown Crossing is home to street vendors and a myriad number of shopping establishments with bright lights. Sandwiched in between is the Theater District of Boston. All three provide excellent opportunities to photograph the unique architecture and people of the area\, all using that lovely 50mm glass!\n*Question: Are other prime lenses acceptable? Olympus/Panasonic users may use a 25mm lens\, since it gives the same look as a 50mm and other primes can be used as an alternative\, but we ask that you try to keep it at one prime in as close to that range as possible. \nUpdated COVID-19 Policies for outdoor Hunt’s Photo Walks and Workshops\nHunt’s Photo Education is aligning with CDC and state guidelines and will no longer require face masks for our outdoor Photo Walks. If you are more comfortable wearing a mask\, please feel free to do so. We also recommend bringing a mask\, just in case. We also ask that you maintain social distance of 6 feet from one another.\nWe will continue to have a maximum of 8 attendees per one instructor.\nAs always\, if you are sick or feeling unwell\, STAY HOME! We will gladly give you a credit towards a future walk. \nThese guidelines will stay in place until further notice. We appreciate your patience and understanding during this time. If you have any questions\, feel free to contact us at classes@huntsphoto.com. \nRegister here \n***Having trouble registering? You can also register by clicking here! \n \nIf you are attending this walk\, we will send out more specific instructions to you a few days prior to the walk. Please note: Some slight details above can be subject to change. This email will detail any of those minor changes.\nPlease read Hunt’s Terms & Conditions before signing up. \nDress and Gear \n•Make sure to dress accordingly with the most current weather report.\n•Only a 50mm lens will be necessary\n•A tripod is recommended\, but not required.\n•Feel free to bring snacks and water\, and a flashlight will likely help as well.\n•Bring an extra camera battery and memory cards.\n•A good\, fun attitude is always recommended!

This will be followed the next night by an image review/critique featuring images taken on the photo walk by each attendee. Photographers of all skill levels are welcome!\nHaverhill\, Massachusetts was once known as the “Queen Slipper City” for its high percentage of shoes produced in the town. The town retains the look of a manufacturing town\, and this look translates extremely well to the look of Black & White photography. On this walk\, we will move about the downtown area and along the Merrimack River at dusk and into the night. Our task will be to focus our energies into how to effectively see and create images in Black & White. \nUpdated COVID-19 Policies for outdoor Hunt’s Photo Walks and Workshops\nFace masks are recommended\, but not required for our outdoor Photo Walks.
We will reconvene a few days later for an online image review to discuss elements of your images.\nThe Personal Vision Series is a crossroads of many different ideas that we offer with Hunt’s Photo Education: Topic-based instruction/classes\, Photo Walks\, & Image Reviews. However\, unlike a Photo Walk where we will all take a certain direction\, for the “Walk” portion\, you will be asked to journey out on your own to photograph. This will cause you to be the driving force of your creativity and vision!\nThis week’s topic is Pieces of Things. We will have an instructional online presentation on March 11th from 7-8pm and will reconvene for our Image Review on March 18th from 7-9pm. You will have that time period in between to photograph and edit our assignment.\nYour personal creative voice is critical to your growth as a photographer and as an artist. Join us for to help grow that voice! \nRegistering and what is needed\nAfter you register for this class\, you will receive a confirmation email that will include information about how to access the online class\, including an online ID code that you will need to get into the class. Make sure to save this information. We will also send a reminder email about 24 hours prior to the class time with that same information. \n“You Are Being Recorded” (And Other Note Related Items)\nWe will be recording this class! The video will be available for download about 24-hours after the class for all attendees\, so don’t worry about taking unending notes. We will send this link attendees to download and rewatch at any time. \nNo online classes should be shared and cannot be shared in a public environment\, including with camera clubs\nThe online content is the copyright of Hunt’s Photo Education and/or the Instructor.
