SUMMARY:Online: Beyond the Basics- Low Light and Night Photography
DESCRIPTION:Below the course description (but before registration) will be a short explanation on how the class will run. \nAfter learning “the basics” of digital photography\, become more comfortable in the world of digital photography by taking the next step.\nNight Photography requires patience and creative vision. Despite the limitations of darkness there is still great detail and color to be captured through your lenses. Low light photography is equally challenging\, but requires a completely different set of techniques. This course specifically covers these two very different yet aesthetically beautiful types of photography. While our Beginner class scratches the surface of these functions\, this Beyond the Basics class covers the following topics in Low-Light and Night Photography:\n• Exposure\, Focusing\, Settings\, Subject Matter\, and Gear\n• RAW vs. Jpeg shooting\n• Aperture Priority vs. Manual\n• Live View and Manual Focus \nUnderstanding the full-functionality of your camera is a necessity to improving your flexibility when photographing in a variety of situations. This course is designed to help you feel more comfortable about how to change your camera’s settings in those situations. It is recommended as a follow-up to our Beginner Photography course. \nRegistering and what is needed\nAfter you register for this class\, you will receive a confirmation email that you have signed up. SUMMARY:Online: Tripods! Tips & Tricks
DESCRIPTION:In response to COVID-19 and recommendations by the CDC of social distancing\, Hunt’s Photo Education is presenting our new series of online classes! (Hey! We wanted to do it anyway\, this just sped up the process!) These courses will be shorter (about 1 hour)\, online versions of many classes that we currently offer\, plus a few new ones\, and include Q&A at the end.\nBelow the course description (but before registration) will be a short explanation on how the class will run. \nWhat’s the deal with tripods? Often\, we get questions about what is important when purchasing a tripod and why we might choose one tripod over another. Even more often\, we will be on photo walks and attendees will come with tripods that just don’t “fit the bill”–in other words\, they wobble\, they don’t get tall enough\, and their end result (the photograph) isn’t tack-sharp. Even other times\, our attendees are flummoxed as to how to set up a tripod.\nBut no longer! This course will teach you all about tripods\, including what options to look for\, the varying parts of a tripod\, and how to use one properly. Come join us as we get you more stable! \nRegistering and what is needed\nAfter you register for this class\, you will receive a confirmation email that you have signed up. SUMMARY:Online: Editing Essentials in Lightroom
\nYou’ve taken a fantastic image and you understand the basics of editing in Adobe Lightroom. So what’s the problem? Have we made it good enough? Have we made the right steps along the way? How can we make it better? This class is all about editing one of your images.\nLeading up to this class\, we will ask for 2-3 images (RAW\, if possible) from you in order to edit ONE of them in class. We will do this with each of our 6-8 attendees and in the end\, we will have discussed a whole slew of topics that will (hopefully) make you a better editor!\nWe are constantly asked: Who should take this class? What if you’re new to Lightroom? Yes- because you’ll see the possibilities in the program! What if you don’t use Lightroom? Sure! We will be using Lightroom\, but the concepts are very similar throughout other similar programs. What if you just use a cell phone or shoot only in JPEG? I don’t see why not! Just because you shoot in JPEG or with a cell phone doesn’t mean you can’t edit your photos. This is a great all-encompassing class\, working out challenges for all levels!\nThis is a class that you can take as many times as you’d like. Since you’re constantly working with new images\, you’re always working out new challenges! \nRegistering and what is needed\nAfter you register for this class\, you will receive a confirmation email that you have signed up. About 48 hours prior to the class time\, we will send out an email with the weblink for you to follow as well as information on how to access the class online. (It’s pretty easy\, but we’ll walk you through it in a quick online video!)\nAt that time\, we will also send you a link to upload 2-3 images. \nLayout of the class\nThe class will begin promptly at the time listed. The majority of the class–roughly 1 hour– will be a presentation on the topic\, followed by a short Q&A. During the class\, you are welcome to type in questions in the Chat box if you have specific questions as they are asked. SUMMARY:Online: Beyond the Basics- Understanding Manual Exposure
DESCRIPTION:Below the course description (but before registration) will be a short explanation on how the class will run. \nAfter learning “the basics” of digital photography\, become more comfortable in the world of digital photography by taking the next step.\nFor some photographers\, there is only the manual mode. SUMMARY:Online: Lighting for Headshots
\nThe saying “It’s all about the light”\, could not be truer for photography. If you have great light\, there is a good chance of a great image. But what is great light\, how to make the best of the available light\, and what if you could have absolute control over the light? \nJoin us for a survey course in lighting\, with an emphasis on lighting for headshots. Discussed will be Quality of Light\, how to recognize it\, and how to control and modify it. We’ll start with available light\, how to control it with reflectors\, and how to augment it with camera flash. \nThen we will discuss how to take complete control of the lighting with studio grade lighting\, revisiting Quality of Light\, discussing the size of the light\, the direction of the light\, and the color of the light. Starting with one light\, then adding a second\, then third\, to achieve just the look you want. \nThe beauty of using studio flash is once you find the look or looks you like\, they are repeatable. Instead of worrying about lighting you can concentrate on posing and expressions. So\, the next time a portrait opportunity comes along requiring studio lighting\, instead of declining saying “I’m an available light photographer”\, say “Great\, lets schedule a date”. \nRegistering and what is needed\nAfter you register for this class\, you will receive a confirmation email that you have signed up. About 24 hours prior to the class time\, we will send out an email with the weblink for you to follow as well as information on how to access the class online. SUMMARY:Online: Basic Digital Printing (Printing with Lightroom)
\nThe time has come to tame digital printing! With the low price of excellent quality digital printers\, what was once an elite craft is now much more manageable for the average photographer. This course briefly covers the basics questions of printing\, including editing suggestions\, color management tools and settings\, paper styles and finishes\, printing recommendations\, and troubleshooting on how to avoid those nasty pitfalls that can occur along the way. Whether you use Canon\, Epson or HP\, the concepts in this course remain the same.\nThis class also focuses on printing using Lightroom specifically. Being able to print from Lightroom allows you to complete all of your tasks specifically in one rather than multiple programs. Even if you do not own or use Lightroom\, the concepts within this class are fairly global and these concepts can be translated to other programs. We will also discuss printing using these other programs. \nRegistering and what is needed\nAfter you register for this class\, you will receive a confirmation email that you have signed up. About 24 hours prior to the class time\, we will send out an email with the weblink for you to follow as well as information on how to access the class online. SUMMARY:Online: Beyond the Basics- Sports\, Camera\, Action!
DESCRIPTION:Below the course description (but before registration) will be a short explanation on how the class will run. \n \nTo photograph sports is similar to the sport itself\, pushing the limits of your camera and lens. A knowledge of focusing\, exposure\, depth of field\, composition\, and more make for more thought-provoking sports photographs. Above all\, photographing sports takes practice\, control\, concentration\, and a knowledge of the goal.\nIn photographing\, not every sport is created equal (for settings)! There are sports in bright\, mid-day sun; there are sports indoors under a fluorescent\, high school “sky”; there are sports with black backgrounds and sports with white backgrounds. How do we compensate in each scenario?\nIn this seminar-based class\, we will discuss many of these topics for a variety of different scenarios and sports\, including basketball\, football\, hockey\, cross-country\, and more. Topics of discussion will include:\n-Basic camera settings\n-Auto-Focusing modes and settings\n-Lens options\n-Thinking out of the Box! \nRegistering and what is needed\nAfter you register for this class\, you will receive a confirmation email that you have signed up. These courses will be shorter (about 1 hour)\, online versions of many classes that we currently offer\, plus a few new ones\, and include Q&A at the end.\nBelow the course description (but before registration) will be a short explanation on how the class will run. \nLensbaby lenses are a unique series of lenses\, available for most camera systems that give a variety of looks and effects. From swirling bokeh to dramatic vignettes\, velvety glows to swirly blurs\, and often with a bright sharp center\, these lenses present a unique style for the user experience.\nLensbaby lenses are not always the easiest to use or understand and require a lot of practice and fine-tuning. In this course\, we will cover the types of lenses\, tips on how to use them\, and provide plenty of examples of photos on how to create a unique look. \nRegistering and what is needed\nAfter you register for this class\, you will receive a confirmation email that you have signed up. About 24 hours prior to the class time\, we will send out an email with the weblink for you to follow as well as information on how to access the class online. (It’s pretty easy\, but we’ll walk you through it in a quick online video!) \nLayout of the class\nThe class will begin promptly at the time listed. The majority of the class–roughly 1 hour– will be a presentation on the topic\, followed by a short Q&A. During the class\, you are welcome to type in questions in the Chat box if you have specific questions as they are asked. We will do our best to answer those questions\, but if not\, feel free to ask them at the end. \n \nPlease read Hunt’s Terms & Conditions before signing up.

We will take you through the process of how to find images that are most suitable for monochrome (and those that are not). The goal of this class is to get you thinking as much as possible about how you can utilize black & white to further your photographic creativity and add it to your arsenal of imagery. \nRegistering and what is needed\nAfter you register for this class\, you will receive a confirmation email that you have signed up. SUMMARY:Online: Lightroom v. Capture One- Comparing the Programs (Free!)
\nAdobe Lightroom Classic and Capture One are two major\, but very similar\, programs that allow you to organize\, edit\, process\, and export images. So\, which one do you go with? Well\, for years it’s been a fairly easy choice\, as the mighty Adobe reigns supreme over the editing world while Capture One has been a distant second. (And no\, we’re not including Adobe Photoshop in this comparison\, as it is a very different program.) Why is Capture One worth considering? Should one stick with just Lightroom? \nThis class is\, of course\, a Pandora’s box that we’re opening\, because it begs the question of all editing software. However\, these two top performing softwares are worth comparing for what the both have and do not have. We’ll spend the afternoon looking at a side-by-side comparison of the two programs and answer questions that attendees have about the two. \nCome find out what you need to know about Lightroom and Capture One\, and see where they stack up! \nRegistering and what is needed\nAfter you register for this class\, you will receive a confirmation email that will include information about how to access the online class\, including an online ID code that you will need to get into the class. Make sure to save this information. We will also send a reminder email about 48 hours prior to the class time with that same information. \nLayout of the class\nThe class will begin promptly at the time listed. The majority of the class–roughly 1 hour– will be a presentation on the topic\, followed by a short Q&A. During the class\, you are welcome to type in questions in the Chat box if you have specific questions as they are asked. We will do our best to answer those questions\, but if not\, feel free to ask them at the end. \n \nPlease read Hunt’s Terms & Conditions before signing up.

SUMMARY:Online: Beyond the Basics- Composition
DESCRIPTION:In response to COVID-19 and recommendations by the CDC of social distancing\, Hunt’s Photo Education is presenting our new series of online classes! (Hey! These courses will be shorter (about 1 hour)\, online versions of many classes that we currently offer\, plus a few new ones\, and include Q&A at the end.\nBelow the course description (but before registration) will be a short explanation on how the class will run. \nAfter learning “the basics” of digital photography\, become more comfortable in the world of digital photography by taking the next step.\nUnderstanding composition in the field can make or break a photograph. Many photographers want to show off their creativity through their photography. The more elements of composition one builds into their repertoire\, the greater the depth of options that will be available to the photographer. Beyond the Basics: Composition in Photography discusses those creative options\, as well as tips on how to pull it off in the field. While our Beginner class scratches the surface of composition\, our Beyond the Basics class goes over in-depth different elements of composition.\nUnderstanding composition is a necessity to improving your flexibility when photographing in a variety of situations. This course is designed to help you feel more comfortable about how to frame your photographic vision in those situations. It is recommended as a follow-up to our Beginner Photography course. \nRegistering and what is needed\nAfter you register for this class\, you will receive a confirmation email that you have signed up. About 24 hours prior to the class time\, we will send out an email with the weblink for you to follow as well as information on how to access the class online. SUMMARY:Online: How to Use Speedlights on the Camera
\nDo you own a flash and have no idea how to use it\, other than sticking it on the camera\, turning it on\, and pressing the shutter? Do you want to take great photos at functions and family events that are in low light? And do you want to make it simple? If the answer to any of those questions is yes\, this speedlight course is for you!\nJoin Hunt’s Photo Educator Paul Nelson as we discuss how to take pictures using a speedlight\, and make them look great\, no matter what the situation. We will begin with a short presentation with images discussing settings\, then dive into the modes\, settings\, light position and more on speedlights. (Yeah\, all speedlights are different\, but there are plenty of commonalities between them.) We’ll conclude by doing a short indoor demo photographing a subject. There is no better time than now to learn how to use your speedlight! \nA Quick Note on Flash vs. Speedlight\n“Flash” is a generic term for anything that flashes. Speedlights are specifically flash units that can be taken on or off the camera. This class will discuss “Speedlights”\, but not the on-board flash on your camera. In general\, we never recommend using those (unless you absolutely have to). \nRegistering and what is needed\nAfter you register for this class\, you will receive a confirmation email that will include information about how to access the online class\, including an online ID code that you will need to get into the class. Make sure to save this information. These courses will be shorter (about 1 hour)\, online versions of many classes that we currently offer\, plus a few new ones\, and include Q&A at the end.\nBelow the course description (but before registration) will be a short explanation on how the class will run. \nThere are so many important parts of photography– exposure\, focus\, lenses & glass\, tripods\, composition\, and so much more– that we often take for granted some of the most basic elements of photography that can offer the most varied amount of creativity. We are of course referring to Shutter Speeds and Apertures.\nJoin Hunt’s Photo Education’s Don Toothaker to learn and discuss the creative power of both shutter speeds and apertures. This is a quintessential class for anyone as it deals with the simple complexities and the complex simplicities that we deal with in every shot. We will discuss how to effectively utilize these two elements to enhance creativity in the field. \nRegistering and what is needed\nAfter you register for this class\, you will receive a confirmation email that will include information about how to access the online class\, including an online ID code that you will need to get into the class. These courses will be shorter (about 1 hour)\, online versions of many classes that we currently offer\, plus a few new ones\, and include Q&A at the end.\nBelow the course description (but before registration) will be a short explanation on how the class will run.
