SUMMARY:Hunt's Photo Workshop: Developing Technique- The North End at Night
DESCRIPTION:Walk Description\nJoin Hunt’s Photo Education for a Photo Workshop involving the historic North End of Boston. We will have a discussion and photo walk specifically about shooting in lower light with an emphasis on night photography. This will include assistance with exposure\, composition\, focusing\, use of tripods\, and a myriad of other settings and concepts. \nBoston is often referred to as a “city of neighborhoods”. One of the city’s most notable neighborhoods\, and its oldest\, is the North End. Beginning in the 1600s this is where immigrants to the New World entered the city for the first time\, which made the North End a busy\, vibrant center of activity. Today\, this tightly knit area is known as “Little Italy” given the prominent Italian-American influence and population found here. Quaint eateries\, fine restaurants\, and historic locations are characteristics that make the North End one of Boston’s premier destinations. \nThis workshop is also an excellent chance to work on street photography. During the first few hours\, our light will start to change\, giving us some excellent opportunities at casual portraits and street scenes. As we move into more of the nighttime light\, we will shift to long exposures. Join us for this very diverse photo walk! \nA Guideline for Photo Walks and Workshops during the era of COVID-19\nAs the COVID lockdown ends and social restrictions begin to ease\, we have decided to start offering our popular Hunt’s Photo Walks again.\nHunt’s Photo Education remains dedicated to the health and safety of every single attendee\, student\, and customer\, first and foremost. We also are committed to the best possible learning experience. We have put forth rules and guidelines for Photo Walks that occur during the era of COVID.\n•We will have no more than 6-8 attendees per Photo Walk with a single instructor\n•We ask that all attendees wear a mask. (Please make sure the mask covers your mouth and nose.)\n•We ask that all attendees socially distance 6 feet from one another\, unless you are attending with the other person\n•Hunt’s Photo Educators will be unable to physically handle others’ cameras\n•Consider bringing sanitizing wipes and hand sanitizer\n•If you are sick or feeling unwell\, stay home! We will gladly give you credit towards a future walk! \nThese guidelines will stay in place until further notice. We appreciate your patience and understanding during this time. If you have any questions\, feel free to contact us at classes@huntsphoto.com. \nRegister here \n \nIf you are attending this walk\, we will send out more specific instructions to you a few days prior to the walk. Please note: Some slight details above can be subject to change. This email will detail any of those minor changes.\nPlease read Hunt’s Terms & Conditions before signing up. \nDress and Gear \n•Make sure to dress accordingly with the most current weather report.\n•Consider bringing wide angle or standard zoom lenses.\n•A prime lens (or even a macro) may also suit you well.\n•You can bring a telephoto zoom lens\, but be advised to bring only what you want to carry.\n•Make sure to bring your tripod with a quick release plate and a shutter release\, if you have one.\n•Feel free to bring snacks and water\, and a flashlight will likely help as well.\n•Bring an extra camera battery and memory cards.\n•As always\, bring your enthusiasm and creative thoughts!

SUMMARY:Online: Multi-Session Series- Speedlights 101 and Beyond!
DESCRIPTION:Join Hunt’s Photo Education for a new Multi-Session Series session. In our Multi-Session Series\, we will meet over the course of a number of weeks\, generally at the same time each week. During that time\, we will discuss a specific element of a topic and end the session by giving a photographic assignment. That assignment will be due for completion before the next class meeting\, and we will review those images at the start of the next session. If for some reason you cannot attend one of the sessions\, don’t worry! They will be recorded and you will be able to watch them at your leisure!\nOur Multi-Session Series is designed to “keep the conversation going” by engaging with our attendees in a more personal way. In each of these classes\, we will have 10-15 attendees and provide direct feedback on images. We encourage photographers of all skill levels to consider these classes\, as they will build upon your experience and provide an excellent chance to work on your imagery! \nSpeedlights 101 and Beyond!\nThis class is all about two things: Learning how to use the basics of your flash on the camera and how (and why) to take the flash off the camera.\nJoin Hunt’s Photo Educator Paul Nelson as we discuss how to take pictures using a speedlight\, and make them look great\, no matter what the situation. We will discuss photographing people\, but also photographing product and flashes work. We’ll talk all about the basics\, including modes\, settings\, and more!\nWhether you own a flash and have no idea how to use it\, you want to take great photos at functions and family events that are in low light\, or you just want to learn how to add a flash into your repertoire\, this course is for you! \nIn week one\, we will look at the basic camera and flash settings when using the flash on the camera\, including light positioning. In week two\, we will get a bit more creative by adding in diffusion and reflectors. We will also work to refine flash positioning and camera settings to maximize efficiency. In week three\, we will demonstrate taking the flash off-camera and show some of the benefits of doing that. In week four\, we will tie together the whole process\, including how to properly edit photos. \nEach week we will have a general presentation and discussion about a topic and will present an assignment. You can submit for the assignment or just watch our weekly critiques of others–it’s up to you! We will also supplement the class with additional instructional videos. \nYou don’t need to know the inner workings of your flash to take this class! Photographers of all levels should apply\, even those at a basic level\, as we will cascade the learning process. You should have a speedlight\, aka a flash that is detachable from your camera. Flash triggers can be helpful. A reflector may also be helpful. Note: This is not a class about the on-board flash on your camera. In general\, we never recommend using the on-board flash (unless you absolutely have to). \nPhotographers should have an understanding of their camera and general exposure before taking this class. \nRegistering and what is needed\nAfter you register for this class\, you will receive a confirmation email that will include information about how to access the online class\, including an online ID code that you will need to get into the class. Make sure to save this information. We will also send a reminder email about 48 hours prior to the class time with that same information. \nLayout of the class\nThe class will begin promptly at the time listed. If for some reason you cannot attend one of the sessions\, don’t worry! They will be recorded and you will be able to watch them at your leisure! During each class\, you are welcome to type in questions in the Question box if you have specific questions as they are asked. We will do our best to answer those questions\, but if not\, feel free to ask them at the end. \n“You Are Being Recorded” (And Other Note Related Items)\nWe will be recording this class! The video will be available for download about 24-hours after the class for all attendees\, so don’t worry about taking unending notes. We will send this link attendees to download and rewatch at any time. In addition to this\, we will generally send out a PDF of the presentation (when applicable) and handouts on the topic. If handouts and PDFs are included\, we will send it out with the link for the video. \nNo online classes should be shared and cannot be shared in a public environment\, including with camera clubs\nThe online content is the copyright of Hunt’s Photo Education and/or the Instructor. Please support our education team and instructors by not sharing this material! We appreciate your support\, and it’s thanks to that support that we are able to continue producing content! \n \nPlease read Hunt’s Terms & Conditions before signing up.

SUMMARY:Hunt's Photo Workshop: A Weekend at Olde Sturbridge Village
DESCRIPTION:Walk Description\nLocated an hour west of Boston\, Sturbridge Village is a proud replication of an 18th century New England town. Sturbridge Village is a living history museum that features many authentic period buildings and homes to explore and enjoy. The village is also inhabited by re-enactors who provide colorful insight to life in New England during the 18th century. Sturbridge Village is a wonderful destination for a multitude of photographic opportunities as well as a glimpse into a bygone era. \nOlde Sturbridge Village is perhaps one of the best places to have both a Photo Workshop and a class. There’s a little bit of everything at this living history museum\, from macro and closeup with fine details to architecture\, from portraits to landscapes. We will photograph both indoors and outdoors\, in regular light as well as very low light. We will discuss how to work with subjects to create a story\, and also work on settings to fine-tune focus and exposure! This Photo Walk is one of the best opportunities to build your photographic knowledge\, no matter what level. This walk is equally as beneficial as a first walk or a twentieth walk\, as the area has so much to offer!\nMost importantly\, because this is a multi-day workshop\, we will be able to spend more time working with our subject matter and discussing what works. \nWe will begin on Friday with an online presentation discussing Sturbridge Village. Because this is online\, you will not need to be in Sturbridge for this portion of the workshop. We will then meet the following morning at Sturbridge Village and work in the village for the day.\nIn the evening\, we will have an image review and critique to discuss photography from the day.\nThe next morning\, we will return to the Village to work further with our subjects. Join us for this great experience! \nNote: During the era of COVID\, all actors will be wearing masks. \nRegarding lodging We recommend staying overnight from Saturday to Sunday in the general area of Sturbridge. We have blocked a group of rooms at the Hampton Inn in Sturbridge (508-347-6466). The cost of your ticket does not include the cost of the lodging.\nPlease also note: The cost of your ticket does not include entrance to Sturbridge Village. COVID policies require that all tickets must be purchased online prior to arriving at the village. You can purchase tickets up to two weeks in advance here. \nEmerging Series- A Guideline for Photo Walks during the era of COVID-19\nAs the COVID lockdown ends and social restrictions begin to ease\, we have decided to start offering our popular Hunt’s Photo Walks again.\nHunt’s Photo Education remains dedicated to the health and safety of every single attendee\, student\, and customer\, first and foremost. We also are committed to the best possible learning experience. We have put forth rules and guidelines for Photo Walks that occur during the era of COVID.\n•We will have no more than 6-8 attendees per Photo Walk with a single instructor\n•We ask that all attendees wear a mask. However\, there are many levels to understanding in the program. What do we do to make basic changes? Once we learn those changes\, how can we “step it up” and figure out what to we’re supposed to do? How do we make images pop? And finally\, how do we put it all together and making finishing touches to our images.\nJoin Hunt’s Photo Education for this three-week course that helps answer many of these questions. What’s most important about this course is that we will give weekly editing assignments\, and we will review those edits at the start of the following week. Often\, Lightroom users struggle with the inability to determine what changes are “good” or “correct”. While those terms are subjective\, we will help you along in the editing process to see how to make determinations along the way.\nIn week one\, we’ll talk about file types and adjustment ranges using Basic Development controls. More than anything\, we will be emphasizing global changes and understanding what can be done with an image in Lightroom. In week two\, we’ll dive into Color\, Curves\, Contrast & Clarity & Texture. These changes will help make your images pop. Finally\, in week three\, we’ll discuss advanced editing\, including Sharpening\, HDR\, Pano stitching and more.\nEach week\, we will give an assignment and students will upload their edited photos prior to the next class. We will\, by and large\, be working with your images in the class. \nThis class is strongly recommended for anyone either looking to just get started with editing\, or to fine-tune your editing skills! \nAfter you register for this class\, you will receive a confirmation email that will include information about how to access the online class\, including an online ID code that you will need to get into the class. Make sure to save this information. We will also send a reminder email about 24 hours prior to the class time with that same information. SUMMARY:Online: Digital Photography Basics 1- Exposure\, The Big Three Settings\, Modes\, and More
DESCRIPTION:In response to COVID-19 and recommendations by the CDC of social distancing\, Hunt’s Photo Education is presenting our new series of online classes! (Hey! We wanted to do it anyway\, this just sped up the process!) These courses will be shorter (about 1 hour)\, online versions of many classes that we currently offer\, plus a few new ones\, and include Q&A at the end.\nBelow the course description (but before registration) will be a short explanation on how the class will run. \nDo you have a new DSLR that you have no idea how to use? Have you had your camera for 6 months\, a year or more and want to take better pictures? Are you putting your camera away because you just don’t see the difference between your expensive camera and your smart phone? \nLearn to fully utilize your cameras potentials! Harness your creative power with photography! \nThis is one of the first classes to consider when you’re getting started with your Digital SLR or Mirrorless camera. We will discuss Exposure (how light works with the camera)\, the Big Three Settings (Aperture\, Shutter Speed\, & ISO)\, how they affect your picture and how to set them\, and what mode to set it to on your camera! We’ll discuss changing depth-of-field (controlling what’s in focus in the background\, stopping or blurring the action in your scene\, and many other basic picture-taking techniques. We recommend taking this class prior to Digital Photography Basics 2\, which is the next logical step! \nJoin us to start learning about Digital Photography! \nRegistering and what is needed\nAfter you register for this class\, you will receive a confirmation email that you have signed up. About 24 hours prior to the class time\, we will send out an email with the weblink for you to follow as well as information on how to access the class online. (It’s pretty easy\, but we’ll walk you through it in a quick online video!) \nLayout of the class\nThe class will begin promptly at the time listed. The majority of the class–roughly 1 hour– will be a presentation on the topic\, followed by a short Q&A. During the class\, you are welcome to type in questions in the Chat box if you have specific questions as they are asked. We will do our best to answer those questions\, but if not\, feel free to ask them at the end. \n \nPlease read Hunt’s Terms & Conditions before signing up.

DESCRIPTION:Join Hunt’s Photo Education for a walk in downtown Lowell\, Massachusetts. On this walk\, we will work on architectural photography\, Image composition\, Black and White Photography\, and other ways of creating images expressively.\nThe city of Lowell is a wonderful example of an old New England mill town. A city that was once dominant in the textile industry\, Lowell’s population boomed during much of the 19th century\, peaking in the early 20th century. Lowell\, nicknamed “Mill City”\, still retains much of its’ early 20th century look (and charm)\, with many old mills being converted to apartments\, artist spaces\, shops and more. On this walk\, we will photograph around many of the mill areas and along the beautiful Merrimack River with the many bridges and cobblestone walkways. Photographers of all skill levels are welcome. \nA Guideline for Photo Walks during the era of COVID-19\nHunt’s Photo Education remains dedicated to the health and safety of every single attendee\, student\, and customer\, first and foremost. We will gladly give you credit towards a future walk! \nThese guidelines will stay in place until further notice. We appreciate your patience and understanding during this time. SUMMARY:Hunt's Photo Walk: Longfellow Bridge & Memorial Drive

During the walk\, we will discuss many of the aspects of photographing in low-light and at night\, including exposure\, focusing\, composition\, and more. Photographers of all levels are welcome!\nThe Longfellow Bridge\, sometimes referred to as the “salt and pepper bridge” due to the shaker-like shape of the bridge’s pillars\, connects Boston’s Beacon Hill district with Kendall Square in Cambridge. The bridge has stood for over a century\, with major upgrades and renovations only occurring in the early 2010s. In late 2018\, the bridge was enhanced with new LED lighting\, bringing stunning new views to this unique structure. SUMMARY:Hunt's Photo Workshop & Critique: Plimoth Plantation
DESCRIPTION:Photo Walk: Saturday\, November 21st\, 9am-12pm • Plymouth\, MA \nImage Review/Critique: Monday\, December 7th\, 7-9pm • Online! \nWalk Description\nJoin Hunt’s Photo Education for a photo walk at the historic Plimoth Plantation in Plymouth\, Massachusetts. This walk will have an emphasis on storytelling with lots of opportunities for environmental portraits\, macro\, landscape\, and low light photography\, all under the guise of a 17th century New England settlement. \nFounded more than 65 years ago\, Plimoth Plantation is a living history museum that depicts the life and culture of America’s first settlers in the 17th century. The settlement is complete with houses\, gardens\, animals\, and pilgrims that live and speak just as if it was 1627. The grounds\, homes\, and settlers make for wonderful studies in light\, architecture\, detail\, and portraiture. Also on the property is a full Native American settlement as well. The Wampanoag’s were native to Plymouth before the arrival of our first settlers and the story of their lives\, and how it mixed with the Pilgrims\, is on display as well. Plimoth Plantation is a vital look into the lives of our ancestors and the growth of America. \nAfter the walk\, attendees will be asked to edit 2-3 images and submit them for our image review/critique\, which will happen the following Tuesday night. (We have found that giving a couple days gives attendees more of a chance to review and edit to their liking without feeling too rushed!) We will discuss each attendee’s images and look at all the elements of photography discussed on the walk. Please note that this session will be recorded in case you cannot attend. \nPlease note: Any photographs taken cannot have commercial use without written consent from Plimoth Plantation. \nPlease note: The cost of your ticket does not include entrance to Plimoth Plantation. Tickets may be purchased at the door. \nA Guideline for Photo Walks during the era of COVID-19\nAs the COVID lockdown ends and social restrictions begin to ease\, we have decided to start offering our popular Hunt’s Photo Walks again.\nHunt’s Photo Education remains dedicated to the health and safety of every single attendee\, student\, and customer\, first and foremost. SUMMARY:Online: Multi-Session Series- Editing in Adobe Lightroom Classic
DESCRIPTION:Below the course description (but before registration) will be a short explanation on how the class will run. \nJoin Hunt’s Photo Education for our new Multi-Session Series. \nEditing in Adobe Lightroom\nThis is a great opportunity to build up your editing skills in Lightroom!\nAdobe Lightroom is the choice program for professionals and amateurs\, with ever-growing capabilities and options.

SUMMARY:Online: Hunt's Virtual Holiday Macro Photography Workshop
DESCRIPTION:Join Hunt’s Photo Education for a very unique virtual workshop–once in a COVID lifetime experience. Every year\, Hunt’s Photo Education has a special Holiday Macro & Tabletop workshop. However\, due to COVID-19 restrictions\, we are unable to do this workshop in person. And so\, this year\, we have decided to take our workshop virtual! \nIn our Holiday Macro & Tabletop VIRTUAL workshop\, we will specialize in creating holiday-themed macro images. Who doesn’t want to spruce up their holiday cards with a beautifully exposed and composed holiday-themed macro photograph?? \nWe will begin this virtual workshop with a live presentation & demo. This isn’t going to be your average webinar! We’re going to have a live presentation taking you through the whole process: What props to use in your images\, how to properly set up macro images\, where to place items in the foreground and background\, how to light the subject\, and other tips and tricks to watch along the way. You’ll also be able to ask any questions you may have.\nAfter the presentation\, you will have about 10 days to photograph a macro masterpiece on your own! During this time\, you will also have the ability to edit your image\, as well as reach out to us if you are having any issues. We will collect your images in advance of our Image Review\, at which point we will see how everyone did. As the cherry on top\, we will also go through the printing process and print a 5×7″ folded card in that critique. (We will mail that card out to you after the class.) At the end of this workshop\, our goal is to have each photographer end up with a beautiful print.\nWe are very excited for this unique opportunity. While we can’t always be connected in person\, we hope this workshop gives all our attendees something to work towards during this holiday season!! The majority of the class–roughly 1 hour– will be a presentation on the topic\, followed by a short Q&A. During the class\, you are welcome to type in questions in the Chat box if you have specific questions as they are asked. We will do our best to answer those questions\, but if not\, feel free to ask them at the end.\nWant to get this class after it’s been run?– We have an online store where you can purchase all our previously run classes here: https://ebay.huntsphoto.com/buy-previous-courses/ \n \nPlease read Hunt’s Terms & Conditions before signing up.

Photographing our night skies takes more than just the willingness to find a dark space. Photography is an incredible tool that allows us to stop a moment and relive it every time we look at that image. She genuinely enjoys teaching others how to capture that moment to relive it over and over again. \nSpecial Offers: This event is sponsored by Tamron and is part of Hunt’s Photo’s 24 Days of Savings! \nDress and Gear \n•Make sure to dress accordingly with the most current weather report.\n•Consider bringing wide angle or standard zoom lenses.\n•A prime lens may also suit you well.\n•Make sure to bring your tripod with a quick release plate and a shutter release\, if you have one.\n•Feel free to bring snacks and water\, and a flashlight will likely help as well.\n•Bring an extra camera battery and memory cards.\n•As always\, bring your enthusiasm and creative thoughts!
