Online: Multi-Session Series- Taking Your Flash Off the Camera

May 11, 2021, 7:00 pm - 8:30 pm

$130

Below the course description (but before registration) will be a short explanation on how the class will run.

Join Hunt’s Photo Education for our Multi-Session Series. In our Multi-Session Series, we will meet over the course of a number of weeks, generally at the same time each week. During that time, we will discuss a specific element of a topic and end the session by giving a photographic assignment. That assignment will be due for completion before the next class meeting, and we will review those images at the start of the next session. If for some reason you cannot attend one of the sessions, don’t worry! They will be recorded and you will be able to watch them at your leisure!
Our Multi-Session Series is designed to “keep the conversation going” by engaging with our attendees in a more personal way. In each of these classes, we will have 10-15 attendees and provide direct feedback on images. We encourage photographers of all skill levels to consider these classes, as they will build upon your experience and provide an excellent chance to work on your imagery!

Taking Your Flash Off the Camera
Any photographer that uses a flash will tell you: You’ll get the best results when you take it off the camera. But why? And what do you look for in your imagery? What camera and flash settings do we use? What kind of triggers do you need and how do you use them? How do you integrate your flash in an outdoor scene? How do you use it in a studio environment? How do we create dramatic lighting? How can we create soft lighting or contrasty lighting? What about diffusers and what’s a gobo?
Join Hunt’s Photo Education as we answer all of these questions and more through a series of presentations, discussions, critiques, and assignments. ! Whether you’re a portrait photographer or a still life photographer, this class will help you get a mastery of lighting with your flash off the camera. This is an excellent continuation of our Speedlights 101 course.

Each week we will have a general presentation and discussion about a topic and will present an assignment. You can submit for the assignment or just watch our weekly critiques of others–it’s up to you! We will also supplement the class with additional instructional videos AND lighting diagrams (for test shots) which we will discuss in class.

You don’t need to be a professional to take this course, or even know advanced concepts of Photoshop, nor the inner workings of your flash. Photographers of all levels should apply, as we will cascade the learning process. We do recommend having either Adobe Lightroom or Capture One editing software, as well as Adobe Photoshop; if you plan to submit images, you should have flash triggers; a reflector will also be helpful.
Photographers should have an understanding of exposure before taking this class.

Get excited to use your flash and join us for a fun time!

Registering and what is needed
After you register for this class, you will receive a confirmation email that will include information about how to access the online class, including an online ID code that you will need to get into the class. Make sure to save this information. We will also send a reminder email about 48 hours prior to the class time with that same information.

Layout of the class
The class will begin promptly at the time listed. If for some reason you cannot attend one of the sessions, don’t worry! They will be recorded and you will be able to watch them at your leisure! During each class, you are welcome to type in questions in the Question box if you have specific questions as they are asked. We will do our best to answer those questions, but if not, feel free to ask them at the end.

“You Are Being Recorded” (And Other Note Related Items)
We will be recording this class! The video will be available for download about 24-hours after the class for all attendees, so don’t worry about taking unending notes. We will send this link attendees to download and rewatch at any time. In addition to this, we will generally send out a PDF of the presentation (when applicable) and handouts on the topic. If handouts and PDFs are included, we will send it out with the link for the video.
