In August 2021, we reached out to any of our students that have taken a class, walk, or workshop in the past year to submit a photo with the theme “Fading Summer”, with the prospects of being included in our Melrose store’s Canon Print Gallery. This online gallery represents the full collection of images submitted by attendees. You can find the selected images in our Hunt’s Photo, Melrose store location until the end of September.
If you missed out submitting images, please know that we plan to hold more gallery shows this year!
*Please note: Our guidelines stated for one submission per person. If multiple images were submitted, we displayed the last one submitted. If images were submitted that were not of substantial resolution, we did not display them.

Why Wasn’t My Photo Selected??
Such a tough question to answer.
Many images were selected because of the quality of the composition, their technical excellence, and their fascinating content.
But, why wasn’t my photo selected??
Herein lies the problem with viewing images online vs. the printed image. If you’ve ever taken one of our Image Reviews, you’ll see us get up close and personal with your images! We’ll look at everything from cropping, composition, exposure, and dynamic range, but also focusing, sharpness, image noise, and more. When you print an image to 13×19″, as we are for our gallery, those flaws–especially focus and sharpness– become more noticeable. When in a program such as Adobe Lightroom, zoom in on your image to 100% (which really zooms it in!). Look at the focusing, sharpness, image noise, and more. Does the image still hold up when you zoom in that close? Or do flaws still appear? And if you don’t see those flaws, believe us when we say that we had a lot of really awesome images, and we unfortunately had to leave some out that we wanted to have in!
Important: We definitely do not look at your names when we go through these images. Some of the names we see are completely new to us, which is awesome! But we try to be as unbiased as possible!
Don’t get discouraged! Think of this as a learning process and help it build your resolve to do better. We will have more gallery shows, and we want your images in there! Try, try again!
