About Our Presenters:
Marcie Reif- The Breakdown of Creating Strong Portraits:
According to Google, a picture becomes a portrait when the background, lighting, and emotion can evoke a sense of connection between the subject and the viewer. We will break down how to create powerful portraits using natural and studio lighting, connecting with your subject to allow their true selves to shine, and how to keep the style timeless. The ability to create portraits for others is an invaluable skill that families have been treasuring for lifetimes. We will focus on portraits of newborns, children, families, seniors, and adults. I will share my simple set up that can travel or stay in a studio and helps me create timeless yet powerful portraits.
We will also discuss when natural light becomes a better option over studio light. We will cover everything from the basics to the complexities of lighting, lenses, gear, settings, and how to connect with people of all ages.
About Marcie: Marcie Reif is an in-demand kids, family, commercial photographer, and photography educator in the Atlanta, GA area. Marcie is a Tamron Pro Ambassador and travels around the country each year speaking at conferences and leading other photographers. Marcie is also founder of The Roadtrippers Retreat, an educational experience for female photographers, and the author of the best selling instructional resource Bringing Home the Story of the Beach.

Her work has been featured and shared countless times by industry-leading companies and has appeared in print in the highly acclaimed Click Magazine, Tamron Magazine, and Digital Imaging Reporter.
Gabby Salazar- Improving Your Photography Through Collaboration:
In this presentation, Gabby Salazar will share how collaborating with scientists, filmmakers, conservation organizations, and other artists has helped improve the quality and impact of her photographic work. She’ll also provide tips on how you can structure effective and meaningful collaborations to be a more creative and productive photographer.
About Gabby: Gabby Salazar is a conservation photographer and an environmental social scientist. Through grants from the National Geographic Society, Gabby has photographed volcanoes in Guatemala, created a film about lion conservation in Zimbabwe, and documented conservation efforts along a new highway in Peru. In 2021, she was recognized by the North American Nature Photography Association (NANPA) as the Emerging Photographer of the Year and in 2004 she was named BBC Young Wildlife Photographer of the Year. Gabby is also an Associate Fellow of the International League of Conservation Photographers and a Past President of NANPA. She has an MSc in Conservation Science from Imperial College London and a PhD from the University of Florida. She is the co-author of the book “No Boundaries: 25 Women Explorers and Scientists Share Adventures, Inspiration, and Advice”, published by National Geographic Kids Books.
Professional Pet Photography with SIGMA Ambassador Anabel DFlux:
Animal photography may appear to be simple, but that is an illusion! Not only do you have to know the unique technical aspect to photography, but you also have to learn how to work with these incredible beings. Anabel DFlux has dedicated her photographic career to capturing pets at their absolute best. Join SIGMA Ambassador Anabel DFlux and learn the secrets to great pet photography: from working with the hyper, the untrained, the unruly, or the camera shy-you’ll be an expert on bringing out their best sides.
About Anabel: Anabel DFlux is a published photographer hailing from Los Angeles and Las Vegas, known for a vast array of photographic work. Art is her passion in life, and in 2009 she made her dream a reality by establishing DFlux Photography, LLC. Since then, Anabel has become renowned for her innovative work including exotic animal photography, live music shooting and dynamic, imaginative portraits. In 2019, she became a SIGMA Ambassador, and continues to work tirelessly throughout the country with the latest SIGMA lenses by her side.
DFlux Photography began as a canine portrait service, servicing pet owners in the Los Angeles area at local dog parks and community events. She then swiftly moved into the marvelous world of dog sport photography, going on to currently receive a position photographing for a large variety of canine sport organizations and clubs. Anabel has had the honor of photographing both national and international canine champions, as well as their litters.
However, potentially the most unique and interesting twist in Anabel’s career is her partnership and work with exotic animals. Something that most definitely happened on a whim, sprinkled with a bit of luck, Anabel fell into the world of wolfdogs (commonly, but by scientific standards improperly, called “wolf hybrids”) which then led to her work with various species of foxes, dingoes, and tigers. Anabel fell deeply in love with these incredible animals and has a very strong admiration for the individuals whose entire lives are dedicated to the wellbeing and conservation of our natural world. Anabel DFlux has partnered with marvelous organizations to bring these creatures to photo shoots, and uses the photographs to debunk myths surrounding the animals, encourage the public to step up and protect their wild counterparts, and to raise funds for conservation.”

Caroline Fraser- Notes from a Creative Journey:
In this talk Caroline will describe how life journeys can feed creativity. Her own journey in photography began in 2004 after treatment for breast cancer. A change in outlook freed her to pursue a creative practice that has taken her around the world, exploring multiple exposure and abstract landscape photography and delving into the world of limited edition book making.
As an outdoor photographer she makes images while out walking, whether abroad or in her local woods in suburbia. The resulting works express a very personal view of the world that she encounters. From moody black and white images to vibrant multiple exposure images, she describes photographic projects that have arisen from her journey, how we don’t need to go far from home to make images with meaning, and how her love for book making has evolved along the way.
About Caroline: Caroline’s photography is a response to the beauty and infinite variety of nature, coupled with a concern for the environment. Her quiet representations of mood and location place an emphasis on the intimate details within nature, using abstraction and layering. Multiple exposures add depth and complexity to her work.
Her love of remote landscapes has taken her to the highlands of Scotland, Iceland, New Zealand, Greenland, and many times to Vancouver where her children live. She adds meaning to her work by combining images and words in limited edition handmade books.
Exhibiting widely in the UK, she has been featured in On Landscape and Outdoor Photography magazine. She has undertaken artist residencies in Switzerland, Wales, and in April 2023 will take up a residency on Vashon Island, Seattle. She works from her studio in Rye, UK, where she runs hand-made book making classes ‘Say it with Books’, both in-person and online. She is a finalist in the RPS Woman Science Photographer of the Year 2023.
