Hunt’s Photo Walk: The Crows of Lawrence

The city of Lawrence, Massachusetts is home to a significant Winter Crow Roost, starting with 100-200 crows in early September to over 25,000 by the new year. Join Hunt’s Photo Education’s Ron Phillips and local birder Craig Gibson for a unique Photo Walk that will observe the bigger picture of the Crows of Lawrence, as they gather and circle, leading into and just after sunset.
We will begin at 1:30pm in Lawrence to discuss much of the basis of what we will expect to see, settings for our cameras and some test shots in the area. By mid-afternoon, we will get into position and begin photographing, and continue until we lose the majority of our working light. During this time, hundreds of crows will gather in “pre-roost” locations, finally converging about an hour after sunset. The sight is magnificent to behold!
This is not your typical birding photo walk, but it is very unique and can yield spectacular imagery. Our co-leader, Craig Gibson, has done extensive research with this roost, including extensive documentation over the past years. Craig has a breadth of knowledge and boundless enthusiasm on the subject.
