Walk Description
Until the pandemic threw things into chaos, the Boston Marathon was one of the most consistent events a resident of the Greater Boston could expect. Boston is the oldest marathon in the world, with runners taking part and challenging themselves up “Heartbreak Hill” since 1897. This course is unique, historic, and one of the most famous in the world: A straight-forward mostly downhill race from Hopkinton to Boston, then up and down Heartbreak Hill (actually 3 separate hills), and finally, right on Hereford, left on Boylston.
For this workshop, we will begin with an online presentation in the week leading up on photographing runners, with an emphasis on gear, settings, technique, and creativity. (This will be recorded, in case you cannot attend.) We will then meet the morning of the marathon on Heartbreak Hill right after the 30K mark. This is a great area to photograph the runners with a great level of intensity, as it is the point right before the last of the “Heartbreak Hills”. This is going to be a fantastic opportunity to get some spectacular sports shots! Join us for the fun!
Please Note: For security, large bags and backpacks are not allowed on the marathon route. You will need to carry any lenses and gear you have out in the open.

Updated COVID-19 Policies for outdoor Hunt’s Photo Walks and Workshops
Hunt’s Photo Education is aligning with CDC and state guidelines and will no longer require face masks for our outdoor Photo Walks. If you are more comfortable wearing a mask, please feel free to do so. We also recommend bringing a mask, just in case. We also ask that you maintain social distance of 6 feet from one another.
Hunt’s Photo Education will still adhere to our 8 person attendee maximum per Photo Walk with a single instructor (unless otherwise noted).
As always, if you are sick or feeling unwell, STAY HOME! We will gladly give you a credit towards a future walk.

These guidelines will stay in place until further notice. We appreciate your patience and understanding during this time. If you have any questions, feel free to contact us at classes@huntsphoto.com.

Dress and Gear

•Make sure to dress accordingly with the most current weather report.
•Consider using telephoto or super-telephoto zoom lenses (70-200, 80-400, etc)
•You may want a second lens with a standard zoom. If you have a second camera body, it would be best to keep it on that.
•A monopod will likely be a better option than a tripod, but don’t expect to handhold for too long
•In case of rain or mist, bring a rain jacket for your camera
•Make sure to bring snacks and water.
•Bring an extra camera battery and memory cards.
•As always, bring your enthusiasm and creative thoughts!
