“A day without learning is a day wasted. There is so much to learn and so little time.”*
This is a true statement as much for the Education Coordinator at Hunt’s Photo and Video (that’s me!) as it is for the students who take our courses. For instance, I love photographing using natural light, especially my daughter’s beautiful blue eyes. However, my schedule doesn’t always allow for the best natural light environment in this “winter wonderland”. This month, I’m striving to learn more about my flash unit, and I would encourage you to do the same!
On February 7th, photojournalist, corporate photographer and flash magician Rick Friedman will be in our South Portland store teaching enthusiastic photographers flash technique with his Location Lighting Workshop. Fresh off a European trip teaching and photographing in London and Paris, Rick’s workshop is not to be missed. He describes his teaching approach as being “always practical, innovative, and most of the time, fits in his camera bag.”
(Oh, and by the way, check out his work with Rob Gronkowski at his blog—Rick can teach you how to do all these lighting techniques!)
On February 22nd, event and studio photographer Scott Levine will be teaching a hands-on workshop in our Melrose store. Scott believes in keeping photography simple, and his class on speedlights is hands-on and easy to follow. 
For anyone who has put off picking up their flash, this class is for you! (I know I’ll be there!)
In other news, we have been very overwhelmed by the response we have received from our first big month of classes. We had 10 courses/walks that we ran during the month and we sold out nearly all of them. We hope that you can join us for future classes, either group or one-on-one. Feel free to reach out to us if there’s something you’d like to see being offered that is not currently on our schedule.
As a final note, you will see a great expansion of courses being offered in our satellite locations. We are still working out the specifics, but Holyoke, Portland, Manchester, Providence and Hanover should all be offering group classes in just a few months. (One-on-one classes are currently offered in all of our stores and can be scheduled by calling the individual store.)
