Sunday January 15th, 11am-4pm
Massachusetts Museum of Contemporary Art, North Adams, MA
Recommended Prerequisite: Basic knowledge of cameras
All Skill Levels Welcomed
Join instructors Paul Nelson & Trisha Sunryder for a photo walk at one of the country’s largest museum’s of contemporary art, MassMOCA. On the walk, we will be looking at different ways to photograph the artwork inside the museum and some elements of the exterior of the building. We will also have access to certain exhibits and artworks during the event. During the walk we will discuss Exposure, Image Composition, Black and White Photography, HDR, and Architectural Photography. As well, we will discuss the idea of photographing art, including concepts of photographing large scale, contemporary art, as is prominently featured at MassMOCA.
While housing a large collection of contemporary art, MassMOCA can best be distinguished by its size. The campus is geographically expansive, located in a former cloth printing factory in North Adams. Because of the sheer size, MassMOCA can hold larger scale artwork and exhibits that the average contemporary art museum cannot. Examples are in the work of the wall-drawings of Sol LeWitt (pictured at the top) and the multi-layered & faceted, found-object artwork of Nick Cave. The campus of MassMOCA is also full of beautiful architecture and detail. We will photograph the interiors and some elements of the exteriors of each building.
We will meet at the MassMOCA entrance at 11am. Your class fee includes entrance to the museum. Once there we will make introductions, have a general discussion, and then photograph various parts of the museum until about 3:00 pm.
Rules and regulations pertaining to photography IN MassMOCA must be followed at all times.
